Tyler McVicker (VNN) - Half-Life 3/HLX Leak

- Valve are conducting gunplay tests, new shotgun sound effect found in Source 2's core

- "Arty", Valve's voxel-based destruction engine, will be a major feature of HL3

- NPCs will react differently depending on other NPCs in the area

- Focus on gameplay innovation rather than graphical innovation

- Reiterates that HL3 is NOT open world, will be linear with open areas similar to Uncharted 4

- Game will feature more "immersive sim" elements than previous instalments

- Will likely be Steam Deck/Steam Deck 2 compatible

Ignoring all leaks, I do think they have been working on Half Life 2 already with the Alyx goldsource 2 engine which seems to be the perfect time/engine for what Half Life 3 is. What I hope is Half Life 3 won't be VR only which it shouldn't since they'll want this game to be a mega big seller.

I think Tyler knows what he is talking about about, a lot of the things he leaked in the past were eventually validated. The problem is that the fact that Valve is working on something has a pretty loose correlation to it ever being released.

I buy most of this, though some of it seems more speculative than the rest. I also think it's good that they're thinking more wide-linear im-sim than open world. That feels much more in line with the series.

They seem to be staffing up too so hopefully that means they reach that inflection point where this gets the momentum to become a finished game before the devs lose interest.

Newell just got finished saying he couldn't think of a way to push gaming forward again with HL3, and supposedly he found that answer, which is destruction and open-ish level design? Shit that we had in gaming on the Xbox 360? Use your head people.

Half Life as a full-on immersive sim would be a dream come true.

It's too good to imagine though so I can't believe it.

Since when is HL3 in development?
2006, off and on.

I thought Valve and everyone else agreed it's never happening?!
Nah, a lot of Valve's stuff collapsed in on itself because they insisted on using Source 2 which wasn't really finished or viable until Alyx's development, but it wasn't for lack of trying or interest.

Alyx clearly baited a HL3, that was always the plan.

Not going to be a popular opinion, but I hope it's VR exclusive again or at least a hybrid title.

All the Half Life games in VR is the best way to expierence them without a doubt.

Just started HL2 in VR. It’s fabulous. Better than most native VR games. Valve stuff just lends itself to VR so damned well.

I'd have to imagine if this is true, Valve would target HL3 at release for a new Steam Deck, this way they can wave away trying to make it work with the first deck. Maybe Valve will play along with the joke and have it ready for Steam Deck 3.
It would be pretty embarrassing for them to release a company flagship and have to claim it only works on Windows.

Makes me wonder how weird the Steam Verification badge on a games store pages is going to get when that badge has to tell you if a game is compatible with both Steam Deck 1. Steam Deck 2, Steam Deck 3 etc. Thats a lot of games (even if just newer ones) to test for.

This dickhead could sneeze and find "HL3" written in the snot on his monitor screen. I'd like a new Half-Life/Portal game as much as the next person but this is getting pathetic.
