A wild new rumored leak from an insider to the FandomPulse exposes Ubisoft’s 'dissatisfaction' with Valve and Steam for displaying concurrent player counts on its platform. Currently - this transparency is readily available to all through Steam’s tracking tools for third party websites like steamdb.

The problem with it? Welp... it publicly embarrasses the performance of many of Ubisoft’s titles, like Star Wars Outlaws, to gamers, journalists, and investors - everyone—much to the company’s dismay. Can't have that now, can we?

According to the insider, Ubisoft is now actively seeking to pressure Steam to discontinue its player count tracking.

“Ubisoft and other companies want to pressure Steam to stop the tracker from giving out info they want to keep to themselves”

The insider explained that the concern stems from Ubisoft’s desire to control how its games’ performance metrics are presented, especially to investors.

“They want to be able to present findings to investors so they can make it sound good”

MOD EDIT: Please stop using FandomPulse as a source to post rumors and/or 'news'.

swallowing some of these brain dead rumors has to be an unofficial IQ test at this point.

So Ubisoft is pressuring Steam to hide information about a game’s reception that they themselves revealed to investors within a month of release? Sales performance that’s also revealed in public reporting from Circana et al?

Who the fuck is smashjt? Stop posting sources that the only thing they want is clicks.
It’s 100% fake news for the crowd to get enraged. That website has a “Kotaku detected” section: https://www.smashjt.com/kotaku-detected

And this is a sentence from this “piece of news”:

Maybe the best way to fix this shortfall is TO REMOVE DEI AND MAKE BETTER GAMES. Crazy, I know.. But just a thought.

It’s all bullshit for the anti-woke panic mobs. It’s where we are. Disinformation, grifting and outrage. Buckle up.

This isn't about sales performance. There are other creative ways publishers now use to make their game releases seem bigger than they actually are, you should know that.

It would be hell of a spin to make less than 3k peak players on a largest PC platform in the world look good.

Let me guess - engagement?

Ah, the Microsoft strategy of obfuscate.

"We didn't not sell less than enough Xboxes to best last quarter's underestimates annually, as this graph of Halo sales relative to the hardware since the NES demonstrates."
"Concord was a resounding success amongst the players who played it positively and we continue to see record level of player engagement on PlayStation 5 within the Concord universe of games relative to itself when played. We're happy that the game will meet its financial targets, adjusted for negative gearing of the YEN once transposed."
"Outlaws has been a massive success for Ubisoft's Steam catalogue of Star Wars titles, being the biggest launch in Ubisoft's Disney's Star Wars' history. Sales are well above estimates for our other titles which we hope to release in the coming fiscal year, and we expect player numbers to remain consistently high amongst players currently playing the game."

People, even really smart people will readily swallow misinformation and lies if it reinforces their own beliefs. It is sadly one of the weakest points of the human race and easily exploited. In some countries like USA after being submitted to the incessant application of this tactic for oever 20 years people even exhibit pavlovian responses.

Ubisoft do themselves no favours.

They force shitty third party clients into Steam releases and generally offer nothing. Unless you're using their Connect service, which is a bit bold to assume people will want to pay a sub just for one publisher's games, players get very little from it. I tend to avoid their games in the modern era, but any games I have checked on Steam have a guide on how to get round Ubisoft Connect (or whatever it's called this year, I counted 3 different names) and multiple posts of people asking how to get round their useless bloat.

It's well known that Ubi are scrambling, but they've spent so long trying to be an island. Now that island is sinking and they don't remember how to do anything but what they've been doing.

Ubi could use a lesson or two from Capcom. They aren't perfect but they turned things around in a big way.

Be strong Gabe, give them the Stone Cold 2 finger salute! If this is true it's pretty funny.

This is like DEI companies asking for their involvement to be hidden or not easily accessible. I expect no less from Ubisoft.
Watching the HL2 documentary, Gaben seems like the type who actually would give them the finger lol. Man was getting sued by Vivendi and almost went bankrupt but he never backed down.

gaf loves to eat up shit especially Ubisoft shit. That being said, big corporations wanting control and less transparency is pretty common.

I see some problem in Ubisoft's logic, that is, they are ashamed of the number of players in their games in front of investors, they need to remove tracking in Steam. so that no one sees it. They understand that it's like repairing a porthole on a submarine with duct tape, it seems like they did the repair, but at the first dive it will be torn off.

I love that Steam keeps siding with consumers, and not bow down to other gaming corporations.
This is how you become and continue to be the leader in PC gaming.

Ubi releases zero games on steam for years then comes back and after a couple of months thinks it should be able to dictate the rules to valve?

Tell them to fucking pound sand Gabe.
