UK Charts: Mario Kart 8 Grabs Silver As Monster Hunter Wilds Makes Its Debut

Well folks, a new Monster Hunter game has come out, which means that Monster Hunter is predictably dominating the UK Charts. It wasn't always this way, but it's safe to say that the series has well and truly broken into the mainstream now. Surprisingly, however, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has actually managed to climb the charts to land just behind Monster Hunter Wilds and claim the silver medal.

This is despite the new release of PGA Tour 2K25, which itself debuted in third place. Lower down, we can see that Yu-Gi-Oh! Early Days Collection has just about scraped through to join the top ten ranks at number nine, while Nintendo's latest major release, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, slowly continues its descent to land at number eighteen.

Now, here's a look at the full top 40 for this week, with platform breakdowns for all of the titles available on other consoles as well as the Switch:

Avowed is already out of the top 40 just a couple of weeks after its release, it would be nice to know the sales figures for Monster Hunter Wilds, MK8 is unstoppable, MK9 will be released and will continue to be in the tops.

My fart in the wind analogy for Avowed is getting better by the day.

Why do PC gamers whine about MH but console gamers seem to love it?

Don't give me that shit about console gamers liking easier games. I've found the inverse to be true. Souls were always console games first. I was a pioneer pushing the great awakening. Asmon, like the others never played anything but WoW. We showed them the way. They didn't grow up with Nintendos like us, they were a gen too late.

We showed them true difficulty, like King's Field before it and Mega Man on NES before it. I also conquered WoW while I was fucking at it. PC kids born after me who never got into NES were always teams, discord, vent camper lazy bodies who liked to min-max. Us console gamers who grew up on Battletoads showed you what real difficulty was. It hasn't changed. You play with mouse and keyboard and call it an advantage. I call it a crutch.

With your secret loathing of fromsoft games and love of being carried, why are you now complaining about Wilds? Who pissed in your cheerios? I've been assured that even a GPU from 1492 could outdo the PS5 Pro on wilds so why am I having so much fun and you look like you just drank a cup of monkey piss?

Nintendolife UK charts tracks boxed physical copies.

How do you track something which has no physical release? You guys are trying really hard.

MS has OFFICIALLY lost their damn minds! So now they aren't releasing box versions of their top 1st party games?! WTH are they thinking?!

90% of Avowed gamers are on gamepass, they make more money from releasing it digital only. I’m sure they know exactly what they’re doing.

An entire thread shit up by every second comment by people butthurt who are never going to play the game but 😂

They track this version:

Yeah... which is mind boggling anyone would buy a steel case and premium price to access game early.

Last time I saw a digital code "premium" upgrade chart on UK charts was Starfield which was hugely hyped.

Wait a second.

Is that premium edition just a download game code in a fancy box?

that sucks bill murray GIF

Yup.

You have to be a special person to order that crap lol

No physical at all for Avowed.

Tell me how they make more off physically producing the media, then shipping it to stores and the stores getting their 30% cut to people buying it direct from the Xbox store?

There’s a reason Sony and Microsoft both want you buying digitally only.

They want the CoD audience.
Superficial reasons to hate something: The list.

  • There is an arena and there'll be dozens of fights in it as they release events. Also, it was never really a huge part of the game.
  • People have always hated egg delivery quests, most annoying and pointless quests in the game. Good riddance.
  • Who the hell cares about some made-up language. It was a novelty at best, can't imagine anyone being seriously upset about it.
  • You could summon NPCs in Sunbreak. Oh noes, somebody beat a single player quests without "deserving" it, my epeen is ruined!
  • MH is not just 5 screens glued together with loading screens anymore, as maps get bigger and more complicated there needs to be a way to get to the monster with ease as it has always been the case in the games. Your mount doesn't have to run automatically, it's a choice.

As you can see from the results of nothing really selling on Xbox consoles anymore, retail presences is important for console games .

Why lie with the bolded? Sony has never said or pushed their customers to buy digital only. Plus you make more money by selling the physical copy to a wider base of customers. By making the game digital only, MS is losing potential buyers.

Even Sonys own gamers buy at 80% digital, this has nothing to do with Microsoft besides Gamepass and the S their most popular console accelerating the process for them.

Of course they’ve never said it outright why would they and face the backlash, but they released their PRO console without a disc drive on purpose. For next gen when no SKUs come with one out of the gate. Why would this be otherwise?

How is it a wider base of customers? Every single console owner can open up the dashboard and purchase compared to going to their local shop on a 1 hour round trip to pick a title instead.

This is absolute fucking nuts talk if you don’t think Sony is pushing customers towards digital only as well even most Sony fanatics would agree with this point.

Well, this is news to me. So they're fully done with standard physical releases, then? (Not like the Premium Edition seems to be much of physical, anyway...)
I was told that Hellblade 2 didn't get one last year due to it not being a full-priced game, but then Avowed costs $70, so...

That 22% at retail is still doing it's job of advertising & picking up impulse buyers .

1. You are ignoring the digital buy rate of Sony's own 1st party games.
2. You are ignoring "HOW" gamers buy games in different regions of the world.
3. The PS5 Pro has an optional disc drive that people can buy to add to their system.

They use the digital sales to escape reality but even using the digital split it still doesn't paint a pretty picture, for example

We have Split Fiction coming out in a few days & the sales on Amazon US right now has PS5 version with 2K + & Xbox version with 200+ ,

If PS5 is 22% physical & Xbox Series is 9% physical & we remove the + because it's unknown & only use the known numbers.

Xbox Series would be around 2,222 total sold which is around the same as PS5 physical only but adding PS5 digital sales take it up to around 9,090 total & that's showing a better picture for Xbox because the unknown for 2K+ could be as high as 2,999 while the unknown for 200+ can only be as high as 299

Is this in America's Amazon store front?

mckmas8808

Yes ( the 80% digital number he used come from the US data that said PlayStation games was 78% digital in 2024 )

So a possible 5 to 1 sales difference in America, for a well round 3rd party game like Split Fiction is wild to me!

I can't imagine the difference in sales globally for this game.

How does that work?

If 90% of Avowed gamers are on GP, they're not buying either physical, nor digital.

Then again, digital copies tend to be more expensive than physical, so you've got a point there.

The point was they just have no interest in releasing physical first party titles for every title they release now, their money is keeping people people subscribed to gamepass and they know that’s where the vast majority of xbox owners will consume their content unless it’s Forza or a title I really love for xbox I’ll just consume via gamepass now. I believe cross platform titles will still get physical releases for now. (PlayStation/xbox) or even larger titles like Halo, Forza, Doom.

Digital in Australia anyway is always more expensive, they don’t have to pay the store owners, or pay for the physical production costs what’s it cost to produce and ship a game?

It’s nuts to me arguing that Sony & Microsoft don’t want everyone buying digital if they had the choice.

And this is what's killing the Xbox brand.

What's worse, is that to make this a viable strategy, their 1st party output is practically forced to be mediocre GP-filler as to not turn things into a financial disaster. Which in turn leads to even less sales, whether it's digital or physical.

Well yeah, ofcourse they want people to buy digital.

I myself have been buying my PS games strictly digital for almost 10 or so years now.

It’s killing the brand in console sales against Sony, gaming itself is turning over more than ever and that’s Microsoft’s end goal like all their departments that revenue will increase even more when they start dropping on Playstation & Switch 2.

GP filler, Indiana Jones & Avowed are both great games. I’m sure Doom & Tony Hawk their next two releases will be amazing as well.
