Update on the two Far Cry projects - (Insider Gaming)

Snake Oil Salesman

  • Far Cry series currently has two games in development, which were both originally under the same game and codenamed Talisker.
  • Its next mainline title is now under the codename Blackbird, and an extraction-based shooter is under the codename Maverick.
  • Both games are still in development at the time of writing, but their release dates have been pushed back internally from 2025 to 2026 due to complexities in development.
  • Maverick, which takes place in the Alaskan wilderness, will see players fight one another, animals, and the harsh weather to survive.
  • Blackbird will now see the player have to rescue his family, who have been kidnapped by a conspiracy cult who have been performing hallucinogenic experiments on animals and children. It’s said that the player has 24 real-life hours (72 hours in-game) to rescue their family, and the timer is reflected in-game by the player wearing a watch on his wrist.
  • Both games have had a significant overhaul to their movement systems, too, including the addition of tactical spriting, sliding, vaulting, and more.

I remember this rumor from earlier in the year. So this is just-about confirmed then?

A Majora’s Mask Far Cry was not on my bingo card. Count me in if that happens.

I recall some rumor about some time based thing, I'm also not shocked they had 2 projects going on as I highly doubted they would do an online Far Cry and never do a single player one or something.

Alaska is a great location

Far Cry has pretty much reached the bottom of the barrel so there's nowhere to go but up at this point.

Just when you think Ubi has hit the bottom of the barrel they have an even bigger industrial strength shovel to dig an even lower new low. Never give them the benefit of the doubt that it can't get worse, they haven't earned that.

An in-game timer makes me think this game will be online only as it’s quite easy to manipulate your internal clock.

I’m looking forward for this new gimmick but I feel like I’m not going to like Ubisoft’s execution.

I'll be interested to see how thr single player game turns out. I loved 3, 4, and 5. 6 was fine, but nothing special. I still enjoy the series as digital bubble wrap - "Ubislop" is pretty spot on.

This could be fantastic if it was done like Dead Rising but you know Ubisoft will fuck it up.

Also will extraction shooters still be popular in 2026? Ubisoft keeps chasing trends but showing up when the party is already over (see their multiple BR attempts).

All they had to do was make the Division 1 with more interesting enemies, larger and more interesting open world and more shit to do

The only Far Cry game I ever liked.

It's a shame the remaster for 360 was literally the lowest-tier effort in gaming history. They changed the resolution. And that's it.

I really like the Far Cry series, but if I were under time pressure I would simply lose interest in it. I like doing what I feel like in the world and not always having to look at a clock (both real and virtual)^^

I hope there will be a mode without a time limit.
