Videogame music that sounds nostalgic (even though you never heard them before)

Sometimes i just come across pieces of music in games that somehow sound nostalgic, even though it's the first time i heard them or the games are relatively new.

I can more or less explain some of those (like taking melody pieces from old soundtracks), but other times i can't put around my finger what sounds nostalgic about it. Anyone has tracks like that?

It's not "somehow" that music is composed to evoke those feelings. Very much like the city ruins of Nier Automata, this is a castle in ruins that reminds you of its past glory.

And another from Nier Replicant

But i'd really like to understand why it sounds nostalgic.

This kind sounds like Hollow Knight

Thanks for reminding me one of the best nostalgic OSTs. I don't have musical knowledge but it must be a mix of using the right instruments/melody.

If you compare this castle music to the one I posted, you will find some similarities.

The Final Song in Drakengard 3.

For love of god please SE give Drakengard 3 same treatment as Nier Replicant 1.22......Drakengard 3 deserves second chance.

On these specifically, my guess is these kinds of melodies (and the instruments) are very similar to those used in old cartoons or classic disney/animated movies

The Dendemille Town theme in Pokemon X/Y instantly stood out to me for sounding like some lost track from Chrono Trigger/Cross

I think because of that it's the only theme in a modern(ish) Pokemon game that I still remembered after finishing the game.

Almost anything Sega, it's probably because it has the late nineties and early 2000s feel to it but man it hits me so hard even tho I never played Sega until like 8 years ago or so
