[wccftech] Intel Says Arrow Lake Will Be 5% Slower In Gaming Versus AMD’s Ryzen 7000 “3D V-Cache” CPUs

During the Arrow Lake Q&A session with the press, Intel's Robert Hallock was asked about how the new desktop stack compared against AMD's Ryzen 7000 "3D V-Cache" chips in games, especially the Ryzen 7 7800X3D which is a very popular chip for gamers at the moment.

We showed some data on the 7950X3D. Based on my understanding of the performance, that part is within a couple of percents so I think we will be about 5 percent back versus X3D which we feel really really good about considering that we have just the cache that's built within the CPU and the great IPC of the product so you'll see about a 5% deficit, I want to be clear about that.

Robert Hallock (Intel VP & General Manager Client AI and Technical Marketing)

Note, these are the X3D chips based on the Zen 4 architecture.

AMD is said to announce the Zen 5 lineup of the X3D chips in a few weeks, with a release in late October to early November. Leaked early Cinebench R23 numbers show a 10-20% increase in single-core and 17-28% increase in multi-core performance over the previous generation, depending on which models are used.

Intel needs a Zen tactic, forget about old architectures and start over. They slept on their laurels by being dominant with dirty mafia practices and now can't compete back with actual quality, Nvidia did it better by continuing evolving its tech, but if they continue their mafia practices with customers like delaying their deliveries if customer is found to be doing business with competition, they can get in the same situation.

It has been said lately that Qualcomm is offering Intel a buyout and I think that's the best outcome for them.

Not a great sales pitch is it. AMDs new 9000 3d looks like it's going to be a brilliant chip. Why on earth would anyone invest in intels new chips ?

Arrow Lake is like a restart generation in some ways.

This -is- their start-over architecture. It's a massive change, it's a tile based architecture that ditches hyperthreading.

Oh, thanks, I lost any track on Intel because I lost any faith in them lol, so didn't know
Idk it's a good start but obviously it looks bad because of the gaming performance regression. Not really a big deal but there are a few things that give me pause; mainly that it's a node ahead of desktop zen5 (3nm tsmc vs 4nm) and I personally am not a fan of P/E core splits. Give me all P cores.

Happy to see them get their power issues under control. Hopefully they can keep building on this architecture and improve along the way. We need good competition in the market. The long stretch of Core chips from Intel with 5-10% performance each iteration and a new motherboard chipset each time sucked. Defacto-monopolies are bad.

Power is already good enough so focusing on efficiency is the right call IMO, but yeah, the E core split seems to be very unpopular, they should release an gaming focused branch for gaming

That would indeed be Arrow Lake. 5% isn't much, honestly. At best we will see 1-3fps more on AMD than Intel, but that's with 2 already powerful CPU's. The difference would be unnoticeable off paper. Quite frankly I'll probably be near Ultra 7 than Ultra 9 anyway. So I'm not looking for the best processor known to man in 2024/2025. I just want a PC that performs well with a 5070.

Still curious to see independent benches for Arrow Lake along with CAMM2 boards. What I do hope isn't true is that socket 1851 is only one gen. I couldn't imagine how anyone would want to migrate to that socket 1851 unless you keep your PC for 5 or 6 years without any CPU upgrades.

I hope as they build on Arrow Lake they keep the efficiency in check and don't start seeing power creep up every gen...

I love the collapse of Intel especially after what they did to ATI / AMD

Be careful what you wish for. Yes Intel was ass for years when AMD was down, but we dont want Intel to actually collapse and AMD to become, *shudders*, what Intel was or even worse- Nvidia is right now.

5% seems a bit optimistic doesn’t it? It’s supposed to be slightly slower then a 14900k or on par with a 9950x and that is 10%-15% slower then Zen4X3D.

But for gaming needs you just need to pair the right CPU with your chosen resolution and GPU.

Yep, results are all over the place and this is coming from Intel.

If they are honest then ok but if not reviewers will mop the floor with these CPUs (like with Zen 5).
