I've been taking inventory of myself, reflecting on who I am as an individual. As a thought exercise, I decided to write down my core values. Here are mine.

Treat Others With Respect: Others should be treated inherently with respect. Don’t gossip. Don’t be transactional in your relationships. Don’t make fun of people. Don’t judge others for superficial things. Approach each individual with a clean slate.

Live with Integrity: Be honest. Don’t lie. Don’t act unethically. Don’t be sneaky. Do the right thing, even if it’s difficult. Don’t let others take the blame for your transgressions.

Don’t Steal: Don’t take things that don’t belong to you. That includes relationships. Things are inconsequential and need not be coveted.

Be Intentional: Don’t waste time being idle. Time is a limited commodity, so invest it in doing things that give you fulfillment. Avoid mindless action.

Be Curious: Always be willing to learn new things. Soak up what you can. There is no facet of information not worth knowing. If someone is talking about something that they’re passionate about, listen to them and learn. Share their passions with them even if it’s not something you naturally care about

Be Loyal: Invest in your relationships. Aid your friends and family when you can. Nourish your bonds with those you love. Don’t take the people in your life for granted.

Mentor Others: Don’t be stingy sharing knowledge you have acquired. Teach those that are willing. Fostering an environment of openness with knowledge.

A fundamental upbringing when I was younger (35 +/- years ago) based in Christian Morality/Faith (not a zealot or anything extreme/overbearing/intrusive to others ~ only to be disillusioned by the actions & manipulations of the "Church" so I became non-practicing & more agnostic with a little Independent Political Critical Thought with a Slight Right lean)

Dont do anything dumb. Pretty simple concept to me.

You dont have to kill yourself being a visionary edgelord like Steve Jobs or Elon Musk. Most people dont even have that ability to start with. But as long as you're a good person who can put enough effort to get through life, dont do anything dumb, and dont leach off society due to laziness or stupidity, that's really all that matters to me.

Being an honest straight up person is important too. Dont get me wrong, it doesn't mean to go up to someone and say they are ugly or stink (that has to due to with tact and etiquette, hence my point about not doing anything dumb).

Cant remember the last time I stole anything, when in reality if I wanted to be a jackass I'm sure I could skim tons of free stuff and money at self checkouts or fudge my income tax hoping the feds never audit me. But thats not me.

I still remember the time walking in Montreal (Laval to be exact), and I saw a purse on the street with content all over the place including wallet, passport etc... Who knows what happened. I scooped it all up and gave it to the closest subway station booth guy saying I found it outside. I hoped the subway guy contacted the woman or cops and she got her shit back.

Now some people would do nothing, or steal any money. Not me. One of my friends found a wallet in her condo. She returned it to the front desk but she laughed and told me she took $100 out of it first. I laughed too, but in reality I thought that was stupid to do. Just return it.

At work, I dont fudge numbers either. Straight up numbers, analysis and reporting. If someone else wants to screw with the numbers thats on them.

My first thinking was the British Army values and standards. Its simple and seems silly to have to go over them in basic training but we live in a society now with so many that are selfish and lack any good in there thinking and how they go about there lives, they have to drill that simple stuff back into people.

For me, it extends to friends too. I'll never profit off friends or fam.

At worst I got a high value item or gift card to get rid and I dump it off them for a dirt cheap price, but never going to be a greedy scalper. Most of the time I just it for free. And all the free shit I get from work over the years (some shit worth decent money like $200 gadgets) I give it away. Even way back when my dad bought me a Genesis, there's no need for NES anymore. They got me that too for Xmas a few years earlier. In the Western world, the pursuit of flashier things are for people who are unimpressed with what they currently have. A man with expensive things may, on the surface, look to have their shit together; but, the constant stress of having to maintain it is unsustainable for a single family, even more so for a single individual like me.

Rather, a person should aim to not be tied down by material things, however big or small. In short, one of my core values is: be grateful and not want for more.
