If they really announce it in January i could see a release by the end of Q2.
Hopefully Q1/March

Releasing Switch 1 in March was mainly motivated by showing profits from the launch within that fiscal year, which had been devastated by Wii U. They made it with mere days to spare. This time, their motivations to release early aren't quite as desperate and may be counter-balanced by other motives. Sure, the Switch machine is slowing down, but it's nowhere near the disaster situation they were in.

I'm not so sure they will be dead set on squeezing it into the current FY like last time. April or May sounds right, not too rushed but also avoiding a summer launch (I don't think it's a good idea to launch video games in the summer).

are we voting when we want it released or when it is likely to actually be released? Seems like the former.

They don’t have to do that… Not the same situation at all.
We’ll see but I don’t really buy the theory that they’ll move super fast. Might work for the hardware, but I just can’t see them doing it with their software. Unless they plan on shadow dropping their big launch title(s).

What’s the shortest announcement to release for their software thus far? I think Mario Wonder was around 4-5months between reveal and launch? (and that’s a big title, but still smaller than the next 3D Mario, for example).

I just see no scenario where they do a reveal to launch of 2 months. Would love to be wrong though.

I thought it would be six months after they unveiled it but they're not going to release a console in the middle of summer. September 8th.

march would be the most logical release month.

boosting their revenue for the fiscal year, and replicating the launch timing of the first Switch

I think they are going March-Abril, with 4K BotW free patch, and Prime 4 Upgrade at launch + Good third party support (FF7, CoD etc) and Mario Kart 9 for Christmas and MH Wild port for this Year.

Yeah okay, if there’s no huge newly announced game that’s supposed to be ready at launch I can kind of see it considering Prime 4 is already being advertised and BotW 4K is a well known quantity/wouldn’t need much advertising.

I don't think Nintendo ever specified what kind of announcement they would do by the end of the fiscal year.
For all we know, it could be something like this:
Confirm the new name (perhaps, even the logo, as Sony saved that for CES 2020), the launch window (say, Holiday 2025), talk about some new hardware features, and that's it.
While there’s much more to share about Nintendo Switch 2 in the coming months, we have plenty of blockbuster experiences coming your way on Nintendo Switch, including Donkey Kong Country Returns HD and Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. I’d like to thank all Nintendo fans for continuing the journey with us, as we embark on the future of games.

Nintendo is going to announce a trailer for what’s next? a day before… Like the Switch 1. And i think that this month is going to happen.

No way to know, it's all speculation for now.
March-April is still pretty dumb to guess, though.

Why not? New consoles consistently sell out. Summer might be a good option to build hype.

I think it will happen after Xenoblade X which is March, unless that title is also getting a NSW2 version.

I think June 2026!!! It's already unbelievably dated as it is and they should have released a year ago so they might aswell go balls deep and release it as late as possible.

May 2025

Late April or May is the safest bet.

People want to believe March, but we're already in January and the console hasn't been officially announced yet.

March is a pipe dream.

new phones get revealed and released in the timespan of around 2 month usually.
why would it be a pipe dream to assume Nintendo follows this same strategy?

especially since the Switch 1 had an event in January with a March release as well.
the only difference here would be the initial teaser video, which is unnecessary this time as the concept of the system isn't new anymore, so a teaser wouldn't actually add any value... we all know what it is (especially after literally the entire system is leaked, internals and everything)

March is out completely.

As others pointed out there's a 5 month announcement period minimum to build buzz. And it won't be announced this month. Maybe Feb or March.

But even then I don't think summer is a good period for consumer electronics release. Has a console ever released in summer?

It might be October or even a good old fashioned Nov release.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but Nintendo has never revealed a console and then released it two months later. I know things can change, but looking at past reveals and releases, the best we can hope for is around a five month gap. Sometimes Nintendo consoles have taken over a year to release from the first reveal. The Switch only took five months and that's because the Wii U was pretty much dead in the water.

There are many reasons why a console is revealed many months before release, including drumming up hype and interest with general public, conveying the message that this is a new console with new software, ensuring software (both first and third party) is ready to go on launch day, production and distribution channels and a whole host of other aspects not related to smart phones.

Nintendo have confirmed that they'll announce their next console officially by the end of this fiscal year, so it would make sense for them to release it early into the new fiscal year. I would love a quick reveal and release, but I would also be very surprised if this happened. All signs point to potentially a May release, but that's if the console is revealed in January.

the reveal to launch cycle has shrunken over the years across the board.

it usually was between 1½ and 2 years from reveal to launch, now it's usually maybe 6-8 months max.

so why should that trend not continue? especially when looking at the smart phone market where these short reveal to launch hype cycles have shown huge success.

on top of that all we had prior to the full January reveal of the Switch 1 was a single 3 minute teaser... that's it. full blackout on Nintendo's side beside that teaser, until the January presentation.
and that teaser was completely focused on showing the concept of the device.

so the main function of this first teaser of the Switch 1 is entirely unnecessary this time, as the concept is the same.

what would also point towards a release during March is that Nintendo's fiscal year ends in March, and a launch with millions of sales would boost their numbers massively. no way that wasn't also the reason the Switch 1 launched in March last time around.

It's not totally impossible for a very short window from reval to launch, but it would be unheard of for a games console.

I'd love it to be March. The sooner the better! However the data still has me sticking my flag in the May category.

Hopefully we'll find out soon.
