I get why they did it and I'm not sure if they count in this case but:

The Division when they patched the Bullet King

Destiny when they patched the Loot Cave

like i said, i hated it, but still played another 1000 hrs after lol. it trivialized mounting, and was so powerful... you did leave a lot of damage on the table by not using. also was the primary way to obtain most effective slinger ammo (which made endemic slinger gathering completely obsolete) and worst offence: it was too easy. you commented some people mess up the timing... it's far and away the easiest punish in the game.
When you say it trivialize mounting...but actual mounting is different from clutch mounting...

You still have to charge the invisible bar of mounting with aerial attacks before getting an actual mount where you spam triangle and the the finish move to ko the monster.

You leave damage on the table but like i said, if you are not a speedrunenr, who gives a damn?

I think clutch claw is still better than marionette monsters and wirebugs spammable super moves from rise, that one REALLY trivialize a lot of the game and make weapons more basic, who need a slope to slide for the bayblade attack of the hammer when you can just push a button and do a special move?

And let's not even start with the wirebug mid-air save...

Almost any update to Destiny 2, because it usually meant that some fun glitch got patched, some way of expediting the grind was plugged, or some perk or build or weapon got nerfed (not necessarily because it was op, but simply because people were using it a lot - not even kidding).

The 1887 was the most fun ive had in a COD game.
It got nerfed before launch then got nerfed again.....and again.

Warcraft 3 Reforged.
I dunno if its been fixed but this was a backwards update and classic used to play better.
I havent gone back to Warcraft 3 Reforged so correct me if im wrong.

Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare , Modern WarFare 2, Modern Warfare 3.
Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, Battlefield 1.
Halo 4.
Pretty much any MP game that added map packs, extra modes, achievements but hid them behind DLC.
This split the community up and id end up playing on launch maps/modes because my friends wouldnt shell out or the DLC specific servers were dead/boring.

It was more of a boiling frog situation, but every season update to Rocket League made it progressively worse. I don't even play the game anymore and it's my most played of all time.

The nerfs to character abilities in Bloodstained ritual of the night. I despise any nerf to a single player game. If people support nerfs in single player games, that is worse, and you are part of the problem.

Ultima Online Age of Shadows expansion.

AoS completely changed the game. It went from skill based to item based. It destroyed the need for player crafted GM quality weapons/armor and they added item insurance that ended up killing my thief character since i couldnt steal the good stuff from players anymore. UO from 1999 till 2003 was easily the greatest game id ever played and i ended up quitting for good a couple months into AoS and have just played on player ran free servers ever since.

Call of Duty 2 multiplayer on PC. One of the patches added a 'feature' that slightly offset your view/target when switching to scoped view with a rifle.
It destroyed the ability to fast scope with sniper rifles and I quit playing shortly after. Last CoD I ever played.

What nerfs happened?
I am struggling to find the patch notes for PS4, but the short version is that they nerfed several of Miriams skills to being not fun anymore, and also grossly reduced alchahest, though I do think they tried fixing this one somewhat? still, it pissed me off because I really liked those abilities and gaining alchehest still sucks. I honestly do not know where to look for console nerf information online

What nerfs happened?

Familiar Changes

  • Familiar upgrade via Grade was nerfed
  • Increased strength based on level
  • Dullahammer Head has been nerfed

Shard Adjustments (Decreased Power)

  • Riga Storaema
  • Craftwork
  • Bunnymorphosis
  • Flame Cannon
  • Straight Arrow
  • Chase Arrow
  • Heretical Grinder
  • Circle Ripper
  • Shooting Dagger
  • Riga Dohin
  • Welcome Company (nerfed significantly - starting from 3 portraits instead of 5)

Weapon Adjustments (Decreased Power)

  • Flying Edge
  • Rhava Bural
  • Rhava Velar

Enemy HP Increases

  • Dullahammer Head
  • Malediction

  • Alkahest was far easier to come by in the initial release of the game. Prior to the day-one patch, Ghosts and Poltergeists would drop 5 (reduced to 1) and Amys would drop 10 (reduced to 2). The supply post cost was 50G rather than 800G.

Ps4 games on discs look better on ps5 than the updated version like assassin's creed unity.

Cyberpunk 2.0. Hated what this did to my Netrunner. I thoroughly enjoyed doing side mission content until this patch came around. Now all I can be bothered to do is drive around listening to music and exploring the map because combat is utterly ruined for me.

The Fallout 4 update from last year that messed up mods on PC, and caused Fallout London to be delayed, luckily i didn't update the game and also bought it again on GOG, strange how Bethesda still hasn't fixed it.

Elden Ring Patch 1.06:
Killed Bloodhound Step.
Made Rivers of Blood mediocre.
Made Glintstone Pebble useless for stagger.
Removed poise for Zamor Ice Storm.
Made it nearly impossible to wrong warp to difficult to reach areas.

Uncharted 2 MP Patch 1.4. Halved the damage after just a weekend of testing and completely ruined the combat which turned into cod instead of the fantastic traversal based MP shooter it used to be.

I will never forgive ND for this.

MM in CS2 is very broken compared to CSGO since it's not a priority to Valve. And you can't just go back to CSGO since it's been replaced.

Sounds like CS2 is like Valve's WarCraft 3 Reforged, in a way. Except that Valve didn't lie about features.

Helldivers 2 when they nerfed the rail gun. Frame 1 uninstalled that garbage.

Nerfing PVE weapons and loadouts is idiotic and anyone who supports it eats corn the long way.
Bruh, never in my life have I heard of such an insult, but can easily tell that you grew up in a place where 80% of people are farmers :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Btw 100% agree, could have been the one game where buffing to counteract would have been far better.

FF XV Royally Dumb Edition.

Pretty much destroyed the ending of the game to replace it by a sight-seeing open-zone full of NPCs and uninteresting fetch-quests.

Transformed a dramatic set-piece where you get your ass kicked and have to hide, into an amusement park full of people. You even get to take photos of the burning city, how awesome is that ?

Added a bunch of entirely useless bosses as well. All of this to please the modern crowd. Ridiculous.

For me it was when they changed Hunt: Showdown with an update that gave everyone playing a bunch of abilities to see where other players are or a notification if they enter the area of the boss.

It was so fun going in solo and stealthing the entire match. After the update, being sneaky was not really an option.

Squad around 1.0 release when they decided to bring in emotes and other 'modern audience' bs into an FPS focusing on tactical realism.

Not exactly an update, but still a change, I don’t get:
Losing the ability to let the engine of your car running when you leave the car. Was there in GTA IV, was missing in GTA V.
I'll co-sign a lot of the changes from 4-5. Car damage, handling, some of the physics- little things. 5 is a great game- massive and amazing- but there were a lot of steps in the wrong direction for me personally.

Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds

Some exec decided this game should support ps move. So claphanz updated it to support it and made the game much uglier with lower quality textures, removed wind from moving foliage which ate up a lot of resources.

Thankfully it took forever for this update to hit the US version of the game. It sure made dropping the game and focusing my time on the psvita sequel an easy call.

That game was my life for a couple years though...

Gwent released a large rework to its gameplay and rebalanced almost every card that completely ruined the game. It was one of my favorite card games I ever had played until they did that and I'm still salty about it to this day.

Anything that nerfs weapons. That stuff irritates me. Sometimes this ends up breaking classes in RPGs and I don't feel like using a stupid guide to build my character. I want to role play, not be told the optimal build on some stupid website.

Games with guns too. Nothing more annoying than seeing a gun get nuked. Its a fun. It should be powerful.

That was you?! 😛
God damn nothing infuriated me more than being instakilled by people sprinting around with those. MW2 had some buggy ass lag compensation thing where I'd constantly run around a corner and be locked into getting shot by those things and there was nothing I could do.
Best nerf ever.

Fortnite’s hyper focus on cars last chapter.

Granted I’m just glad the dumb OP mythics are gone…for now.

Overwatch >> Overwatch 2
Promised PvE missing, turned FTP with all sorts of pointless "progression", dumped down team play by changing to 5v5, sole tanks suck for ALL tank players, every new hero have a get-out-of-jail free card.
It completely killed the game for me.

They reintroduce 6v6 now, but I reckon it's too little too late.

I'll freely admit it was good for overall game balance, but back in 2012 when Dark Souls nerfed the Dark Wood Grain Ring's equipment load limit and the Dark Moon Greatsword/Man-Serpent Greatsword's stun lock combo, it absolutely destroyed both my PVP builds.

In recent memory : Elden Ring when they added all the "help" about NPC's location or special event happening in the world.

On release, you had to figure out where to go, remember where were the merchants (or use your map to place marker). Suddenly you don't need it anymore. The game tells you everything.
The one that baffles me the most is the meteor after Radhan fight. On release, you see the cutscene of the meteor crashing somewhere and that's it. Then you have to go look for it.
I remember going in Limgraves to use the 360° telescope to find out where it was and was amazed by the sight of floating rocks. I really felt like I had discover it myself.
Now after the cutscene, the games tells you what happen and put a marker on your map to indicate where you have to go.

How recent was this? I don't remember any tips with the NPC quests in SotET during the first month or two.

For NPC, it just that it indicates the position of merchant or NPCs (that haven't move) you've met.
And once they move, they disappear from the map so don't even need to go and check if they're still there.

I liked to keep track myself of where were the merchants and NPCs.

It still (hopefully) doesn't tell you where a NPC moved.
