Where would you rank the Switch now that end is approaching?

Well?

For me it is a top tier console and ecosystem. Amazing, deep library of both more modern titles as well as remasters/ports of older games not from the current generation. Wide selection of genres, portability (move to different televisions easily with as many docks as you want, pick up and play, quickly put to sleep anytime and resume somewhere or sometime else), local multiplayer focus in some cases, etc.. Just a wonderful system.

C tier and that’s being generous

Peaked on Day 1 with BoTW, there wasn’t much else that was truly standout. Mario odyssey was a massive disappointment, Mario kart was a port of a Wii U game, and ToTK was just a rehashed worse version of BoTW

Very disappointed in the lineup, especially since Nintendo had the opportunity to only focus on a single hardware

SNES, NES, N64, Wii all had a stronger lineup of Nintendo exclusives

Mostly a dust collector with ancient hardware. Massively overrated console and wasted potential. I hope switch 2 actually live up to the potential promise that was suggested with switch 1

But it sold so much and had so much software that sold gangbusters. Does the same criteria not apply to Switch that you apply to PS5?

It gets a natural bump for how long in the tooth it's generation went on for, meaning that it just has the sheer numbers in library that will find and audience, compared to Wii U it's leaps and bounds ahead.

Doesn't quite live up to GC or N64 for me though, and as a handheld it never quite became the GB or GBA to me (never really play the ds or 3ds much so i guess it's better than those by default)

For me it's a Strong, A to A+... But the gen dragged out for far too long and for the past 3-4 years the system has just gathered dust for me besides the odd Tetris 99 game here n there.

A-Tier, only not an S because some games run poorly, games blown up on a 4k screen can look really aliased, and I think they kept its gen going on a year too long.

I think Switch 2 will fix most of my issues, so the rest is just good games.

What? This must be a troll post. Those consoles had great games, but a stronger range of Nintendo excusive than the Switch? Are you pulling my third leg? Look at the picture below of Nintendo's Switch support. How is that not stronger than the Wii or NES?

I think it’s the greatest console ever and those that grew up with it will love it just like us old bastards love the SNES.

The only interesting exclusive games in these 8 years for me:
Super Mario Odyssey
Animal Crossing
Kirby
Pikmin 4
Zelda Echoes

The question wasn't posed "is this the worst generation for nintendo ever?" obviously not, they've had tons of commercial success and taste in games varies and a lot of people seem to enjoy it. The question was, "where would YOU rank the Switch?" and for me, it's one of Nintendo's worst systems in terms of software that appeals to me.

Nope, I look at that list of games and hardly any of it appeals to me.

I enjoyed the novelty of BOTW, although would prefer a more traditional Zelda title in structure. LM3 and Pikmin were OK. Mario Kart is fun if you're playing with kids, etc.

But there was a severe lack of compelling games for my tastes. Instead of getting ambitious console like experiences, the system is mostly low-rent handheld tier shovelware and low effort recycling of their previous games. Their software lineup is massively overrated and I had years go by where I didn't turn the switch on at all.

I'm not sure how anybody can look at that line-up and not find anything appealing. Calling Nintendo games "low-rent handheld tier shovelware" is the hottest of takes.

Oh well. We all can't have exquisite taste. The games may not appeal to you, but most of these games are critically acclaimed and have sold millions, some even tens of millions.

The fact is, Nintendo is the best in the business. That's not an opinion, but a cold hard fact.

I don't care about Nintendo games anymore. But, I am very glad to see they were so successful this generation. We need solid companies making great games and great hardware. Nintendo is one of only three companies doing both at the moment. I hope the Switch 2 can be as successful.

Nah, it’s just an opinion, one you’re free to have, but it’s the furthest thing from factual at all. It’s all subjective.

See, I disagree. In your opinion, Nintendo has nothing to offer but "low-rent handheld tier shovelware". That is your opinion. I respect that.

However, the facts paint a different picture. low-rent handheld tier shovelware doesn't get critical acclaim, sell millions upon millions of copies, win awards and is highly rated by the majority. That's what makes it a fact. Evidence. You can choose not to like it, but you can't deny a majority disagree.

One man's shovelware is another man's treasure. I don't like fortnite, roblox, minecraft, etc. either. But they're undoubtedly popular to the masses.

Different tastes, is all. I want ambitious Nintendo games like the used to make, and unfortunately with the Switch they overemphasized lower tier productions and almost handheld quality type productions over the industry leading games they used to make in the past.

This topic is not about what's popular, but how individually we'd rank the systems. For someone that leans more towards BOTW tier productions, it should come as no surprise that Switch may be a big disappointment for those people that wanted more of that, and less of Splatoon, 2D marios, etc.
