Will The Nintendo Switch 2 Be A Success.

So we are here again and who could ever forget the epic original Switch thread of the same name. Have fun people, and no biting.

Success being comparable to the original, lets say 100 million units plus.

Yes. It’s a proven formula and it doesn't have to sell Switch numbers to be success.
Even SweetTooth SweetTooth agree

Quite sure. Nintendo have their software and thats what matter in the end.
Yeah, Nintendo don’t do any spreading out bs like the other two, if you want to play the next big Nintendo game you’ll need a Switch 2 and that means it’ll sell like crazy.

definitely , the BC with the original switch guarantees that.
Same could be said about 3DS which “only” sold 50% of the DS. I’ve seen plenty of arguments over the years that it was a failure due to that drop-off, despite it obviously making Nintendo loads of money.

Will it be a success? Yes, absolutely. Will it sell the same number of units as the OG Switch? No, not at all. Maybe 100 million sold lifetime, depending on how much of a dent Sony and Microsoft make in the handheld market and how soon they release something in that space.

I do not think we are comparing apples with apples here.... could be wrong.

I agree. But loosing 50% of your customer base isn’t. Which is why it’s important do define what kind of success we mean.

If we’re only talking financially the WiiU probably made them money as well. And that’s hardly considered a success.

I see it as a DS -> 3DS situation.
Super safe upgrade, they didn't want to risk the farm on a completely new gimmick, but at the same time it won't take off like it happens when a completely new idea takes the mainstream market by storm.
Also and hopefully there won't be a new pandemic to give an unprecedented two years free boost to sales.

I don't see how Microsoft will make any dent. All their games will be coming to switch 2. They have almost no brand presence globally anymore. It's gonna be super niche.

As for the topic... A console with Nintendo full support and the 3rd party support this will get cannot not be a huge success
130 mil lifetime is my bet

I paid good money for this Dynex!
I think it will. It's a proven concept that everyone else wants to imitate, and Nintendo mercifully played it safe. No stupid gimmicks (the mouse thing is a viable addition) and proper branding that can't be mistaken for a new controller or something like that. Pricing is the only part of the equation they could bungle, but I think the market's going to accept a more expensive device - even at $400-450, it's still much cheaper than just about any other gadget with a screen these days.

The handheld market has grown a lot since the Switch launched, with way more competition now. For the Switch 2 to succeed, Nintendo needs to be more aggressive—secure exclusive third-party games, lean on their strong first-party lineup, and make the console stand out with unique experiences. Ubisoft might be up for sale (I think), an uncharacteristic move for Nintendo (if they buy), but it could expand their lineup with games they’d never make themselves. Food for thought. Over all I think the Switch can be successful, but it will be harder this time.

Also they could follow the 3DS playbook: wait for Sony or Microsoft to drop their handhelds, then undercut them with a price drop. (And yes, I’m convinced that was 100% intentional last time! lol).

Unless you are Apple, you have to give people a reason to upgrade. They did the smart thing with the name but what does it offer over what you currently have? The Switch appeals to a lot of casual gamers and the footage shown of Mario Kart looks like...Mario Kart. If you already have Mario Kart and a Switch, are you going to spend hundreds of dollars on a new machine to play games that only look marginally better?

They are going to need some gimmicks and exclusives to convince people to buy new hardware.

It'll do well launching @ $400. That's a pretty easy xmas present for a lot of kids. I don't know what Nintendo does with this level of hardware capability tbh. It's the kind of performance that can handle games like God of War 2018. I can't see Nintendo scaling up to that.

Guess they'll sell enough to be happy about but over the long term do the youth still love Nintendo? I'm out of the loop here. I know Minecraft, Fortnite etc are really popular with them.

Yes- its a proven formula and evolution.
More than any other Nintendo follow up obviously. Makes sense and part of me is bummed about that aswell.

Yes, I think it'll be a big success.

Can it beat or get close to Switch number? I don't know about that.
I can't see them going 7-8 years with that thing, they'll need something new in 5 years when PS6 and RTX 7000 will be around.
I know Nintendo plays in its own league and that graphics are not everything but god damn, PS4 pro level hardware in 2030 is wild to think about.

They could release a Switch 2 Pro in 3-4 years, though.

Seems obvious but it’ll be a success but not likely to do the mega numbers of the Switch. Which is fine as a success is a success.

But I guess we’ll find out in several years how it’s doing.
