Would you like to own fewer games?

This sounds like ads from local pawn shops stating they'll buy your scrap gold off of you. WHO THE FUCK HAS SCRAP GOLD LAYING AROUND?!

If you find it psychologically difficult to deal with having so many options then simply buy less games.

There's ever only like 3-4 games a year I want these days.

There is not the perfect situation I guess back in the day we got way fewer games but it seemed more quality titles.

These day there's a ton of games but a lot more what I like to call " noise " nothing games .. small scam games from small studios that make money by putting out hundreds of crap games making a tiny amount on each. Much like in mobile. But it also seems like the quality Games are even less than before.

Don't have this issue, the most at times i have 2 maybe 3 games at once i intend to play, usually i even need to find what to play or replay something.

Everyone should try and set aside time for 1 game a year minimum to really play repeatedly until you master it. If you only consume one product after another in rapid succession on the most shallow level, none of it sticks in the same way and you're not experiencing the same level of enjoyment. You have to allow yourself the time to stop the grind and play 1 game for months, at least 1 game a year.

I'll never understand this "problem". I have more than a hundred games to play between Steam and my retro games, and I wish they were a thousand instead.

What's the problem with having a backlog? I don't get it. They are just more options, more games to play and more fun to have.

I miss the time, when I have few games and therefore thoroughly explored each of them. It made my gaming experience more harmonic.

My current game backlog is 30-40 games. I can't wait to complete them in order to came back to the good old days.
I beat 3 games a week, that's a new record for me, I prefer my type even with average score, as long it fits with my taste, it doesn't matter.

To answer your question, it's a bit complex cause I've made bad decisions buying games that isn't for me, but not more than %5 of my whole library.

I'm not disappointed actually and still always looking for more contents.

I have 200 games in my backlog. I'm working on it and it's doable. No, I don't wish for fewer games.

The queue of the other games is annoying.

Good advice here. I would also recommend going thru those 40 and making some hard cuts. There is a 100% chance you already know you will never play a few of those. Setup a game list of about 10-12 games and remove the rest in your mind and from your library, it makes your backlog fomo much, much lower.

Annoying how? Are those unplayed games bullying you or something? :goog_relieved:

Just play what you want to play mate. Games are about having fun, not checking a list of the games you've played/beaten.

I do this with every game.

Playing games in rapid succession just to be rid of imaginary backlog is most counterproductive and exhaustive way of playing games.

Games are for you, not the other way round.

I also like the idea of gamepass where I don’t own, so no obligation to finish it. Just play what I want.

Yes! I'm going to complete them all for the next year and then play much fewer games with no hurry.

I think I've got 900 games in my PC library.

Doesn't bother me if I'll never play a lot of them. It's just nice having a virtual library that I can browse and pick out something I like every now and then.

I only buy games I know I will play. I have a big backlog but its also manageable. It would be much smaller if I didn't spend time doing 100% trophy/achievement runs in other games after beating them.

Thankfully there's an easy fix for that. Sell all your games. If you're digital only, you can always delete your account. Start anew. Thank me later.

Nah, I'm fine with how things are now.
Once you move past the FOMO and stop focusing on only playing the newest hot games, it's actually nice knowing I always have like 20 games I want to play on my list and I won't be running out of new things to play anytime soon (while half of the internet somehow complains that there are no games and nothing to play and this gen sucks).

I generally just buy 1 game at a time and don't buy a new one until I've finished it. Though I do make an exception during Black Friday or other big sales if I see a few games on my list with a good discount.

Did you hear about sales?
They are a trap for weak people.

If a game has your interest, you can wait for a sale. This is what I do. But you can also buy a game full price. Where is the issue if you only buy what you actually play ? I bought Sonic x Shadow day-one, awesome game. Already finished it twice. This game I will replay every year during the 10 to 20 coming years.

You, however, buy a bunch of stuff because there is a discount, and it is not even guaranteed that you will play the games : weak.

Even if I buy a couple games full price in the year, I am quite sure that I am spending less than you stacking a ton of stuff "thanks" to sales.

Get stronger.

Nope. I buy games because I'm an enthusiast and my mood on what I want to play is constantly changing.

It wasn't owning fewer games that made my younger gaming years so good. It was having less responsibilities that eat up my time and being able to spend more of my time enjoying games. I was also more excited for things and enjoyed everything more as a teenager/20-something. At 44, I'm just not capable of getting excited for things like I was 25 years ago.

But even if the question were "If you could go back and take on less responsibilities (wife, kids, job, etc.) so you would have more free time for games, would you?" my answer is of course no. I'd love to be effectively retired and spend 3-4 hours a day gaming and also spend time with my wife and kids, workout every day, take care of to-do list items, etc. But that's just not realistic.

No. It's good t have a large backlog, just in case. Preferably GoG releases that won't need an online DRM activation.

I'm certainly ready for the inevitable streaming only future where i won't be participating.

Guys collect games like women do shoes. They make us happy just looking them since we can imagine all the fun we might have.

Oh my god. I own so many games and it pisses me off that I will die without playing even half of them. I have infinite backlog and infinite wishlist. Not to mention other hobbies. I wish I was still in high school where I had the option to skip school or homework. When I tried adding retro games from PS1, GBA, PS2 era, my backlog reached thousands. That is the reason I gave up on retro gaming unless it is a remake or remaster.

Nowadays, I rarely have the time to game due to work and my further studies. I guees I should not be visiting this site or pointlessly listening to music .

Also, why do video games have to be so long these days? I remember playing Days Gone to 100% and it took my entire 2 week holiday. A single JRPG takes me 2-3 months, lol.

Yeah, I like having a small backlog. Same with books. If I have more than about 20 on my shelf, waiting to be read, I start to feel like I'm behind on my work. It turns into a to-do list, a chore. So I keep my backlog small, both with games and books. It's easier with games, because there aren't that many I really want to devote the time to. With books, it's harder.

Nah….. I like my digital collection. And I’ll add as much as I want even if I do t get round to playing it. I feel like a hoarder sometimes 😅

I've started to notice this with dreamcast. I had so much to play vs when I was a kid and how different it felt.
