WTF: Robert Eggers Set For ‘Labyrinth’ Sequel At TriStar

Apparently started off as rumour on Reddit but EVERYONE is reporting it so it must be true.

I could imagine it being what Return to Oz is to Wizard of Oz. While no one can replace Bowie he doesn't need to be.

I can't decide how I feel about this one. The OG is just a perfect film. But can you get Jennifer Connelly back and really try to replace Bowie? Or just take that skeleton of a story and spin it a new way?

At least there should be puppets. Yay!

Haven't seen Nosferatu yet...any good?

also....dance magic....GODDAMN IT MANABYTE
Not as good as i was expecting but still enjoyed it. It would have worked better if it was in native tongue with subs

I'm still not having it but it would need to be Bladerunner 2049 levels of greatness to work. Curious but this is akin to Tarantino making Star trek (which would have been awesome btw).

Days like these...

Have a Blessed Day
You should check it out, worth it for the cinematography alone.

Slightly missed the mark for me, just like the Northman but you can see what hes going for. Needs smaller budgets and less pressure if you ask me.
I've watched the original and just last year watched the 1979 version. I'll get around to watching it some day

Jennifer Connelly was the most beautiful person ever during her primes early 20s. Would have been a ideal world if they made this sequel when Jennifer Connelly was in her late teens or early 20s like the Hot Spot , Career Opportunity and The Rocketeer. And when David Bowie was still alive.

I'll still give it a chance but it's going to lose a lot of the magic and charm without Jennifer, David Bowie, and Jim Henson's masterwork.

Every VHS copy of this film, EVERYWHERE, is heavily worn in the same place :p

Yowza that scene alone raised testosterone across the globe by 15% :p

Yeah the Hot Spot was the start of her prime and where she started to be perfect. She was like 18 to 19 during the filming before release. Etotie and Some Girls came after Labyrinth and before the Hot Spot but she still looked too young in those two where as she looked perfect during the Hot Spot cause I guess her puberty finished when she started filming the Hot Spot. I'll say she was the best during the Hot Spot to Dark City age 19 to 28.

How old is Connelly now? It would be interesting to do a story at her age. They would have to make it edgyier.
She'll probably be the mother to the main female protagonist with a new Goblin King as the enemy or unlikely ally. Jennifer Connely will be the mother just like how Winona Ryder was to the new protagonist in Beetlejuice 2.

I still have to see Beetlejuice 2, the first Beetlejuice was amazing and both Winona Ryder and Jennifer Connelly are my two favorite female actresses.

I would have Connelly's character retreat into the world of Labyrinth due to some trauma and her brother has to save her.

He hasn't made 1 bad film yet so I trust him.

That said. It might just be the first movie of his I don't watch because Labyrinth is an awful movie.

Please at least leave goonies alone, at least that one...

About a decade ago when Richard Donner was still alive they were working on a sequel. It was about the kids of the original cast who called themselves "Groonies" because that's how Data said Goonies to them in his electronics shop. The timing was just off as had Key Huy Quan's career resurgence and Oscar win had happened back then it would've been made.

After that Donner was working on Lethal Weapon 5 when he died about Riggs and Murtaugh dealing with Butter's kid who's now a cop. Mel Gibson is apparently trying to finish it as they were about to start filming when Donner died.

Yeah. They kind of exploited Jennifer Connely back when she was young.

At least it was not as bad as Brooke Shields.

I remember that the director of Carrer Opportunities got in trouble because they oversexualized Connely.

Some critics got mad about it.

Nosferatu was great.. I wouldn't compare it to how the Witch created this weird feeling in me but Nosferatu was well done and it gave me some unease in certain moments. I'd be excited to see what he does with Labyrinth.

Such a departure from what he's done so far. A twisted retelling of the first movie?

The After Dark vid not this one but the one by Diana Darkangel was the one that made me find out about her back in 2022. That one went over 100 million views 2 years ago and was copyrighted and removed sadly, I remember it having more views than the actual official song. Went on to search and watched most of her movies after that. She's easily old enough to be my mother so don't even have any nostalgic bias for her. But she's easily the most majestic and beautiful actress and so wish she did even more movies during her earlier days like a Labyrinth 2 a couple of years after the first one. Definitely The Rocketeer 2 and 3. And maybe even Hulk 2 after the 2003 Hulk.

I wouldn't say it's a huge departure, there is that feeling from the witch just not a apparent or at least not as much to me.

It is definitely twisted, it creates a romanticism between the main characters no matter how supernatural or grotesque it is.. it sexualizes it. I don't know how to explain it.

Labyrinth is one of my favorite movies ever. If they were going to do a sequel it should have been done twenty-plus years ago. I can't imagine it without Bowie.

Yeah should have been done a couple or a few years after the first one with Jim Henson, Jen, and David again. It could be a trilogy like Neverending Story.

Are they gonna ruin everyone of my childhood classics??

Please at least leave goonies alone, at least that one...
I saw the Munchies, Critters, and Gremlins but haven't see the Goonie series yet. Wish Gremlins would have gotten a third movie.

Yeah. They kind of exploited Jennifer Connely back when she was young.

Was Brooke Shield trans? Always looked masculine.

No CGI could recreate the Bowie crotch shot in all its majesty !. I got strong reservations about this idea ,I'm no model myself but Jennifer looks like a smacked arse nowadays

Magic Dance FOREVER !

Sorry I wasn't clear, I meant this project is such a departure, If it comes off that is. Surely it will be widely different in tone than then original.

But yes I like Nosferatu also. Not his best but still great.

The thing I like about the 80s even though it was before my time are the music and how they use real sets and puppets/slimy flesh looking suits for the filming and monsters etc. Makes everything look so real like it could actually exist. While today's more advanced films looks way too sleek and digital to the point where it looks so fake even if it is more high tech looking.

Jennifer is like a decent red wine I have down in the cellar. I would have nailed the whole bottle years ago, but i'm thankful I saved some for later in life because it just gets better over time.

Top quality bird.
