Xbox confirms it's banning Baldur's Gate 3 players due to in-game nudity turn on

Microsoft has confirmed reports it's issuing bans to Baldur's Gate 3 players on Xbox when their consoles have automatically uploaded video captures featuring in-game nudity, but says it's willing to reverse suspensions "if actions are deemed to have been taken in error" and suggests users turn the auto-upload feature off to avoid further bans.

A week on and Microsoft itself has now acknowledged the situation in a statement on social media. "To provide clarity on Baldur's Gate 3 mature content enforcement actions," it wrote, "Xbox account suspensions are not automatic. Each clip is reviewed by a moderator and, if found in violation of our safety and content policies, actioned accordingly."

That's western companies or government for ya. Biggest prudes on the planet.

For those of you who arent American or Canadian, network TV cant even show tits or cussing in prime time (Quebec is an outlier). Some channels will allow it past 11 pm or so, some never do.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
People getting banned by a shadowy pseudo automated organization from socializing with their fellow peers in their chosen way with money earned and spent because of digital tits formally hosted and monetized by said shadowy organization?

Orwell eat your heart out.

You're giving it too much credit, most companies out-source content moderation to cheap labor in countries like India where they have to moderate (up to) 2000 photos per hour or such.

This is a good watch, if you've got 20 minutes to spare.

edit: there's some nudity in the video, so may be NSFW.

Is the NeoGAF community really acting shocked and/or outraged over this? You guys know that you can get warned/banned for uploading this kind of stuff to NeoGAF, right? This is a basic principle of video sharing across most non-porn websites. YouTube doesn't allow it. Microsoft doesn't allow it. Sony doesn't allow it. NeoGAF doesn't allow it. And about a billion other websites have the same restriction. This is common sense.

That sucks and I feel for Xbox users. Is anything like this happening on PS5? If I livestream this game to youtube with all the nudity visible, will something similar happen to either my stream or my psn account?

People should stop referencing data that makes me feel uncomfortable because games get ported to platforms I don't like
How do you ban people for something in a game that is ok to carry on your platform? The nudity apparently wasn’t a problem to allow it it on your console, but you’re going to punish players for using video from something within the game? That’s pathetic.
I don't agree with their decision but apparently automatically uploaded footage is viewable by others in your profile tab so they think that little Timmy from your friend list shouldn't be randomly exposed to this stuff

I'll patiently wait for Microsft to ban users for accessing "certain" Twitch content or going to those naughty URLs through the system browser

This is nothing new. They banned me ages ago because a nude pic of Triss uploaded from The Witcher 3. I laughed in disbelief.

The only way it would be similar is if NeoGAF were banning users for posting nudity, while having a nudity thread where it's freely posted.

did sony even bother to put censorship up this time? This is usually the thing that makes them squirm compared to nintendo and xbox looking back at all those sexy anime game censorship bullshit
No. Full orc dong was present when I played.

Hahaha fucking Microsoft
Some of you guys should try posting your dick pics here on gaf and see what happens.

With that said, I don't agree with the bans due to the autoupload settings. Which I guess also why it appeara they've reversed them?

I said barely, not never. It tends to be violence now rather than anything sexual. Not sure what was censored in this cause idk wtf that game even is lol

Reddit said it was a racist joke?

They're also a closed platform, it's not steam where they literally have porn games and everything is a go there. There are different expectations for them and Ninty/xbox, how far can they push the limits till someone complains.

You said it was a practice of Sony's under Shawn's leadership and that it barely happens anymore. I gave you a recent example and adamsapple adamsapple gave you other examples. You are wrong. Not sure why you are looking at reddit when you could just read the article from the developer which details the changes made for the console releases.

There have been two specific changes to the game across all platforms. Specifically, the Salvation Ranger introduction and Junior’s flashback have had small alterations made to them. Whether or not to make these changes was not easy to decide, but ultimately it became an exciting prospect to alter some content in a small way in hopes that it welcomes and includes more players.

...

In a similar vein, a few more changes were made on PlayStation only in order to launch the game on that platform, but we're happy to say that none of them affect the meaning and intent of LISA. For the PlayStation version of LISA, we’ve added a notice about the protagonists at the beginning of the game. Additionally, cigarettes have been renamed to ‘cigarette candy,’ Joy is no longer referred to as ‘pills,’ and alcohol has been renamed as ‘soda’ in Joyful only (characters still drink alcohol in Painful). Basically, the changes are not a big deal. We just wanted to make everyone aware of it in advance, because we know that LISA fans will notice it as a difference from the original games.

You not knowing what the game is doesn't invalidate the example. No one said they are an open platform and no one said they can't censor games that appear on their platform. The fact remains that they still censor games often and in the example I listed, are more aggressive in their censorship than other platforms, including Nintendo.
