PAL Charts - Week 27, 2014

A quick thought that hit my head.

CeX have 842 copies of Mario Kart 8. Is that to say around 1% (not kept track of numbers) of sold copies are currently there (this is a surge form the around 600 they had a week ago, thanks GAME).

How does this compare to other games? Yeah I know promo abuse is a big part of the reason for Mario Kart 8 trade ins.

The only similar situation I can recall was the PS4 launch but that was more due to only being able to find bundles with that "Knack" game in it.

A few exclusives and multiplats:

Infamous Second Son - 2970
Titanfall: XB1 - 2724, XB360 - 1140
Wolfenstein: PS4 - 1391, XB1 - 1510, XB360 - 577, PS3 - 408
Watch Dogs: PS4 - 4423, XB1 - 2843, PS3 - 1123, XB360 - 1522

The only similar situation I can recall was the PS4 launch but that was more due to only being able to find bundles with that "Knack" game in it.

And yet CEX has many more copies of Killzone in stock. Like 2225 copies of Killzone V 744 copies of Knack more.

Didn't quote because Bruno will post the Top 50 (and plattforms are missing there, but you can guess them).

YU-GI-OH! 10TH?
NO, THIS IS AWFUL >_>

EDIT: Let's report the top 10 here.

Top Ten Best-Selling (Quelle: GfK Entertainment; Vorwoche in Klammern):

Tomodachi Life (3DS)
Minecraft - PlayStation 3 Edition (PS3)
Watch Dogs - Bonus Edition (PS4)
FIFA Fußball-Weltmeisterschaft Brasilien 2014 Clip(PS3)
FIFA 14 Clip (PS4)
Sniper Elite III - Afrika (PS4)
Mario Kart 8 (Wii U)
Watch Dogs - Bonus Edition(PS3)
One Piece: Unlimited World Red - Strohhut-Edition Clip (PS3)
Yu-Gi-Oh!: Zexal World Duel Carnival Bundle (3DS)

I'm really surprised by the absolute dominance PS4 software is having in the UK. I had honestly expected that with the price cut and positive press the Xbox would have reversed some of the trends from the start of the year, but clearly not. Every single franchise seems to be doing significantly better on the PS4 and the XBO, even staples like Call of Duty and Fifa.

Why ? The Ps4 is a better specified console for playing games.

Allot of the Xb1 features were focussed on the USA market at release

- NTSC 60 HZ HDMI in (USA TV)
- NFL stuff
- Lots of USA only apps

Think it does not help Xb1 multiplat sales that xb1 gets kicked in the face almost every week on Digital Foundry articles.

OK, for the lulz and because I was bored...

German charts:

As said when I saw the top 10, BOOH YU-GI-OH! BOOOOOH!!!
Seriously, an awful operation like that shouldn't deserve to sell at all, let alone being in top 10 in one country >________>

In the meanwhile, Tomodachi...1st for 4 consecutive weeks in Germany, right?
MK8 is still strong, but One Piece Wii U completely disappears from top 50, after just one week. 3DS version also lost many placements, but it's still around top 30, and PS3 SKU still in top 10. Xbox One still looooow software wise, with its only presence alredy way down.

Both Germany & France had a strong marketing push for Tomodachi Life. Glad it's selling decently.

Pokemon Art Academy is a flop. An E-shop exclusive release would of been more convenient.

UK confirmed as more American than US.

XB1 pricing in the UK has been far more competitive from what I've seen

  • Same price for kinectless SKU
  • 30 GBP more for kinect Standard SKU or ~ 51 USD versus 100 USD more in the US
  • 40 GBP for Titanfall Kinect SKU or ~ 70 USD more versus 100 USD more in the US

Not to mention that there were deals on the TF bundle for I think 349 GBP at some points?

MS seems to be offering better deals in the UK officially relatively at least

So Australia, New Zealand and those new European countries besides Belgium since that's week 26 don't care for Tomodachi or perhaps for 3DS?

Maybe it's that they're not individual format charts?

Also Amazon UK doesn't track sales for Watch Dogs bundle.

I swear Tomadachi Life doesn't actually exist. Nobody ever talks about the game, it doesn't have an OT and I don't think it's inspired any avatar fads.

I conclude that the title is some sort of sales-thread joke.

That's a good sign for Nintendo since usually the titles GAF ignores the most end up being big sellers.

The Titanfall bundle has been the same price as the PS4 often and I mean often for what is a massive price cut (£349). It's no wonder it sold better.

Hmm that's a good point. Never thought about that. Still though the TF bundle seems to be doing pretty well there although as Principate mentions I think the price parity on that bundle for a while really helped

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if MS is doing best relative to Sony in the UK considering what some of the deals have been like. I don't think I've ever seen Amazon of all places offer the TF bundle in the US for $400 but maybe they just hold different sway in different regions and Amazon UK is more important

With almost no new releases this week familiar faces shuffle around the Top 10. ‘Sniper Elite 3’ (-53%) drops down to No2 holding off ‘FIFA 14’ (-3%) which is less than 100 sales behind. ‘Wolfenstein: The New Order’ (+6%) climbs a place to No4 thanks to retail promotions. The PS4 version is the biggest beneficiary with an increase of just over 19% on last week.
EA’s ‘Titanfall’ (-15%) slips down to No5 just ahead of ‘Call of Duty: Ghosts’ (+3%) which is static at No6. Both ‘Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition’ (+0%) and ‘Minecraft: PS3 Edition’ (-3%) move up to No7 and No8 respectively. Nintendo’s ‘Tomodachi Life’ (-5%) for 3DS moves into its highest position since its launch six weeks ago at No9. After a seven week absence ‘Battlefield 4’ (+21%) moves back in to the Top 10 another title to benefit from price promotions in this week’s chart.

EDIT: the individual chart is up too.

Minecraft, this Germany of video games.

Dem Minecraft :lol
Tomodachi going strong, now! Did that special deal continue this week as well?
MK8 still high, good :D

Another boring week, the only release was Wii Sports Club which didn't make the Wii U top 10 chart.

2015 will hopefully be a lot better in this regard. 2014 is really bleak when it comes to sales age in general.
