PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | September 2014

Just saw an PS Store ad (on Gamespot, wanting to see a FF XV video) saying that there are monthly flash sales on PSN.. Was it known that flash sales are monthly? That is actually great news in my view!

TOTP: Get Spelunky! So addicting!

Just started playing Velocity 2. Man that game is fun. Maybe I'll buy the first game too just to support awesome games like that.

The game does makes me wish there was some kind of co-op though.

The game is built and fine tuned for speedrunning (getting perfects) so dependencies on another person would be rage inducing.

I'm trying to add funds to my wallet through paypal but it's not working. Is there some maintenance going on or something?

Didn't someone say it could be next month PS+ IGC?

I heard at least one person mention it as a possibility, and it fits with the PS+ "hint" posted here earlier, specifically that it is an older well received indie title already out on other platforms but not PS4 (Spelunky is supposed to be coming to PS4 October). That and the person who posted the hint said there were some "great guesses" when people mentioned Spelunky, OlliOlli and 1001 spikes.

I hope it does, I fucking love Spelunky, and I hope it catches on as much as Rogue Legacy did. Not sure it would though, because it lacks the difficulty scaling of Rogue Legacy where you level up as you go and things eventually get easier. Spelunky is just hard as balls the whole time, but you get that Dark Souls esque high when you finally beat that area that you absolutely could not beat, and never thought you would beat in a million years.

This was the deal-breaker for me. I watched the first 14 episodes of the anime as people recommended though, so I'll probably still buy SAO:HF on sale.

Watching fansubs of anime really desensitized me to bad localizations. Though still a deal breaker if you don't already like the source material. I do find it funny though that a team of 3 fans translating an anime for free with no budget can do an equal or better job to a game actually released in NA by a company trying to make money that has a budget, however small.

Today is the last day of TGS, isn't it? I thought there won't be any noteworthy news after the first one, but then that "The Scissors Project" caught me off guard. Now I'm kinda want to see at least another surprise for the last day.

Well, localization isn't involving translating only, and most of the resource actually spend on coding/bug fixing the localization (unless your game is named Sen no Kiseki).

Still, I guess years of watching anime and not being a English native user help me alot through bad translation.

I keep tweeting at these companies that I'll edit their localizations for cheap but they don't respond - do you think it's pride? lol

Should I get Murasaki Baby or one of the DD-only Bandai Namco racing games on the flash sale?

I absolutely loved Murasaki Baby, but it was definitely on the shorter side. Maybe 2-3 hours? But I loved the stories it told and the atmosphere it created. Puzzles were generally simple, but got a bit difficult at the end, never anything I would call straight hard tho. I liked the control scheme, touch really sold me on the "leading a small child around" mechanic, and I normally hate touch based games.

Basically, if you are ok with a shorter game with pretty simple gameplay for around $12, I would recommend Murasaki Baby, but if any of those things turn you off go for the racing game.

Honestly though, as teflon alluded to, they could almost fully get by (at least in the case of SaO) with just an editor. Someone to send a big text file to and have them check it over for English grammar and phrasing would go a long way. But I definitely don't know fully what that entails.

Not sure if this is a proper thread for this question but I can't find a main ps4 thread. How are people uploading images they take in ps4 to places other than twitter/facebook?

I am guessing, upload to facebook then from there to imgur?

Anything new from TGS today? Is there a summary of these things somewhere?

Copy it to external storage device, and uploading it by your PC. That's the only way currently.

Demon Gaze, Persona 4 Golden, Gravity Rush, Tearaway and Ys: Memories of Celceta.

I like your style. Mine are (in no particular order) Ys: MoC, P4G, Demon Gaze, Gravity Rush, and Guacamelee. I have platinumed 3/5 of these, need to finish the other 2.

Honorable mentions (because a list of 5 is too damn short):
Spelunky, Velocity Ultra/2X, Tearaway, Danganronpa 1/2

E: Really awesome to see such diverse lists, yet almost every game listed thus far I own and thoroughly enjoyed

TxK
Super Stardust Delta
NFS:MW
Pinball Arcade
KZ: Mercs

I wish I could add dungeon crawlers like Demon Gaze because I love the genre but I think the above are truly my favorites. I'm hoping Natural Doctrine steals a spot next week. And I really wish Uncharted was on my list, because I actually enjoyed it.

I'm fairly certain translation is fairly expensive. And while in some cases I'm sure 'fans' would do a great job for peanuts, part of the problem is that it's a translation... and that means the company won't even know if a good translation was done. Can you trust that to someone claiming to be a fan? What if they insert inappropriate material? What if they're simply not good? There's no way to know unless you then hire a professional to go over it all... at which point, you're back to square one and should just do that to begin with. And then that translation needs to be thoroughly QA'd by people playing through the game, making sure no mistakes were made (criss crossed dialog, etc).

What are the top 5 Visual Novel Vita games BESIDES Danganronpa 1/2?

1. Danganronpa 2
2. Danganronpa 1
3. Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward
4.* Time Travelers (thanks ATXAlchemy!)
5. Corpse Party PSP / XBlaze
*No english version available

IF the Steins;Gate games, Clannad, and the Fate series all got localized for the West, This list would differ significantly. Time travelers was in the list since I've already played it / can't think of other translated VNs. Corpse party vita has no wetern release date.

Shining Resonance looks like something I would want. How many kittens I have to sacrifice so Sega could bring it over?

Japan does not think us worthy of their Shining games.
Doesn't help that there's a high possibility SEGA's got a contract with some Japanese firms for promotion and the voice acting and maybe even certain songs used in the game.

Hey guys, I have a question regarding Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment. I'm thinking of importing the Asian version for $60, since I prefer physical copies, but I've read the English translation for that is even worse than the NA one. For anyone who's played the phyiscal copy, how much worse are we talking here? Would I still be able to understand what's going on? I mean, I don't want to spend $60 only to regret my purchase because the translation is terribad. Mind you, I just want to make sure I'll be able to understand what is said. I'm not expecting a good translation by any means.

Also, $20 for Valhalla Knights 3. Worth it?

Zombie Driver HD is on PSN? Had no idea! How is MUD vita?

Okay, finally can get back to you with some impressions on MUD.

First off, you control 4 racers. Each has a talent (not sure how important yet) and 4 attributes that you can earn money to power up from 1 to 10. Stats include stuff like how fast you can turn, boosting, and how easy you're thrown from your bike. So there's some level of 'progression' built in. I've only put in a couple stat points here or there but I definitely can feel them.

You can also unlock 'trick' cards (ability to do tricks) and gear (helmets) that I think will affect stats.

There seem to be 4 race types -- standard race, elimination race, trick score race, and head to head.

There are some in game ways to get boost -- you hold down brake and the pedal at the gate, and if you let go of the brake the second the gate drops, you'll get an early speed boost. Big jumps also have a way to gain speed (you need to prep with X, then release just before you land). You also start out with one 'anytime' boost.

I've only raced around 8 races so far, but the tracks seem solid. My guy is obviously low leveled, so I'm assuming once I have him stat'd up I'll be tearing up the course.

Visually, it's nothing to write home about. The gameplay is more arcadey than sim (I think motoGP is where you'd go for sim), though you can definitely crash into the sides of the course, etc. While the gameplay is nothing alike, I'd sort of put it on the same level as, say, Motorstorm RC --not AAA quality, but serviceable and enjoyable. It does feel higher quality than something like Asphalt Injection. Frame rate seems constant but I don't have an eye for that.

Oh, and the game has in game advertising for a brand name energy drink. Heck, you drink one to get your 'anytime' boost. It's probably the most annoying thing about the game, but it fades into the background pretty quickly.

If the idea of motorcrossing around in the (badly textured) mud on your vita sounds appealing and you're the type that can overlook flaws and adjust to a given game's racing style and quirks, you'll likely enjoy the game. Just don't expect great visuals or anything like that.

I need to play Ys: Celceta before the year is over...Ys games are good but experiencing another game is much better when you put some months away between your playthroughs, like with DR1 and 2.

Also Spelunky should totally be October's Plus freebie.

I heard VH3 wasn't that great but that sexy game lol.

SAO NA version seems a little shitty translation wise already so if the Asian version sucks more I assume it wont be that much worse

So, you are recommending that I wait a few months to get DR2? I just beat DR1, and it may be difficult to hold myself back from just jumping in...

And yeah, to anyone trying to make a list of best Vita games, while also outright denying the genre Danganronpa applies to... Only ask that to learn what to get besides Danganronpa, really, it's really great.

Speaking of, anyone have a clue as to the time gap between DR: Another Episode releasing in Japan in around a week and releasing in the west? Oh, and how is Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward? I got 999 recently after being enthralled by Danganronpa, it's different, but still genius. Just wondered how many people here think it is better than DR1, since I've heard some say that before.

If you need more DESPAIR in your life, jump right in! With some games it'd help to take a break between to game, helps build anticipation for the next game to make you enjoy it more.

Auugh! I suppose I will do my best, but I can't guarantee anything (to myself). My biggest problem is I know that the DESPAIR, will be far worse after DR2, waiting for DR3 and Another Episode. *sigh*

I have a huge backlog of Vita games alone, so I guess I'll chip away at that. Thanks for the reply!

Really want Minecraft PS Vita too. >:|
