Microsoft to hold Xbox & Windows 10 Media event Feb. 25th

X360 backcompat on PC is high on the list I reckon. Spencer said this in a couple of interviews out of nowhere so that pretty much confirms it. OG Xbox backcompat for X1 will most probably be an E3 reveal. Will be surprised if it was announced in this event.

BTW, is the event over or still LIVE?

Do you have any sources?

BC with OG xbox won't be at E3.. Ybarra said it was a big job and their focus was on 360 like 2 months ago in some interview. They've also got two features as big as BC to announce at E3, I don't think they will have time to make an OG emulator etc since it sounds like they're pretty busy already.

Maybe in 2017 or something but not this year. I do think it'll happen at some point though.

I don't buy this. They already have BC and MKV support. Unless they somehow believe background music is bigger than both of those, what else could possibly be added that's a bigger announcement than those two?

I would be beyond stunned if they managed to make 360 BC work on Windows 10. Sadly I would not see much point in playing Gears 2/3 with the same 360 fidelity. Or maybe this hypothetical BC would allow native 1080p at least.

Source for this? What 2 announcements?

I don't see them allowing GBA emulators on the Xbox One store for some reason.

If they are serious about this one store one platform approach that's how they have to roll.

I sure hope they go all in which means all kinda of apps available on xbone

Something is definitely happening in that conference!!!

Yeah, bad photoshopping.

Mike Ybarra on the Inner Circle podcast said they were working on 2 projects he considers as difficult as BC was. He was hoping they would work out so they could show them off. This was mid 2015 I believe so they may have some things coming down the pipeline.

What?
They're going to curate it of course. They have to implement controller support for the apps or wait for the developers to do so. Some apps won't even work well with a controller.
It's going to be curated.

Well yeah, but I'm fairly certain Microsoft won't forgo all that free money. More so, that's not a move that can change the trajectory of this gen.

They're better of launching their NEXT console with free multiplayer for all.

The entire point of the Xbox business is getting you to subscribe to Live.

Seriously, from a business perspective, that's really all Microsoft cares about. And in fact, now they want to figure out how to get non-Xbox One owners (PC gamers) to subscribe to it, too.

haha, oh good luck with that. last time they tried it they left with their tails tucked between their legs and left publishers to fend for themselves to get their games to work right

I read this too.

But they might of course just be exaggerating. I don´t think anything can be as big (technology-wise) then their BC compatibility.

Maybe "Stream PC games to Xbox One"? But this is also just copy&paste of the Xbox One streaming to the PC technology and add mouse support... ;-)

They can offer a Gold subscription without locking multiplayer behind it. Similar to Origin Access.

Don't know where you're getting this from, but OG Xbox emulation (with the OG live servers being brought back) would be HUGE for me. Fucking love the OG Xbox.

Only things I've heard rumors (aka forum gibberish) about is...

PC/Steam streaming to the X1.

Background Music

OG Xbox support (doubt it)

I don't even consider Background music a big "surprise" announcement, although it would be great to hear.

Interview: Phil Spencer wants to see X360 games running on PC

Windows Central said:
Gizmodo Brazil asked about the possibility of seeing original Xbox games on the Xbox One. During his response, Phil Spencer said that he'd not only like to see original Xbox games on Xbox One but also Xbox 360 games on PC (via Microsoft Translate):

Phil Spencer said:
[Getting original Xbox games on Xbox One] is something I want to do. It is a matter of priority. I would love to have the ability to play Xbox 360 on PC at some point too, so we have different things we have to think when we plan these things. But it would be great to have support for original Xbox games. So yes, I want to do it, but we have many other things we want to do well. People fight with me for not having background music (laughs), so we have much work to do. Which is great! It's great to have that feedback.

I'm pretty sure there's another interview where he, out of the blue mentions X360 backcompat on WIN10. Can't find it now, on mobile. Sorry.

Ybarra said it was a big job and their focus was on 360 like 2 months ago in some interview.

Ah, so it has been shot down for now. Welp. I was expecting this year.

One of them is probably unified apps throughout the stores. That would be huge and the challenge seems to match the criteria. The second one might be streaming to xbox from PC if they can make that happen somehow

What?

But what about if xbox one gets full mouse and keyboard support? Pretty sure Phil Spencer recently said they were working on it.

Basically the trade is: We give you free Windows 10. In exchange, you sign up for our subscriptions (Office 365, Live, Groove Music) and use our revenue-generating services (Bing).

So the notion that they're going to give away services to sell hardware -- that's the wrong way to think about it. It's more like they'd somehow figure out how to reduce the price of the next Xbox if it meant they could add more Live subscribers.

That won't work. Besides Windows 10 is not free forever.

I suspect it will be. The July deadline may have been artificially put out there to drive early adoption. And come June, it may suddenly be suspended indefinitely.

Particularly if Google, as they're widely rumored to be interested in, delivers an Android-for-the-desktop alternative this year.

But what about if xbox one gets full mouse and keyboard support? Pretty sure Phil Spencer recently said they were working on it.
But they'd still have to include controller support, I think, since not everyone will have a MKB plugged into their Xbox Ones. The controller is still default/primary.

They will probably follow Apple's original pricing model ($29.99) if they don't extend that one year free to forever.
There's no way Windows goes back to $200 price point.
