Conjuring 2 Review Thread

Loved the first, will probably love the second. The movie's depiction of Lorraine and Ed Warren is probably my favorite part of the first film (Don't care that it may not be real or whatever).

Friends and I loved the first and was eagerly anticipating this but the trailers looked baaaaaad. Hopefully this score holds up.

Awesome. I'm there.

I love that Wan doesn't leave his horror roots. Directs the huge budget blockbuster Furious 7 right back to the Conjuring 2.

While I don't like horror movies, it's nice to seemingly have a horror sequel that doesn't suck for once.

The first movie is fairly by the books but I found it entertaining with some decent jump scares and I like the two leads. This looks like more of the same and I'm fine with that.

Yeah, he's never forgotten where he came from and he never feels above the genre at all. I admire him a lot for still wanting to put on a good show in the horror genre when he has the time to do so.

As long as it's in the positives I'd like to watch it.

A horror movie in the negatives isn't a deal breaker, I've seen plenty, but I'd like a good horror movie.

My second most anticipated movie of the year, I'm gonna watch it whether or not it's good, but here's hoping!

The first Conjuring is one of my favorite movie experiences of all time, I saw it with my best friend and we had a BLAST. He's visiting me just so we can watch the sequel together. I literally can not wait.

Nothing about the first one worked for me. Felt cheap and awkward. The previews for this one look pretty much the same.

And they offered him a boat load ("life altering") of cash to do Furious 8 and he turned it down to do Conjuring 2.

It was by the books with the exception of it having killer directing, performances, cinematography and legitimate suspense-- things where most horror movies completely shit the bed.

Early reviews make this sequel seem solid but disposable... which is probably the best outcome we could have hoped for.

Wow, I didn't realize the director had returned.

I kept seeing commercials thinking this was just a poor cash-in like the doll spinoff film.

One of the nicest film surprises for me this year!

The Conjuring and The Witch have been two of my favorite horror films in recent memory.

His horror movies are usually super successful so he can pretty much keep doing what he loves without any worries about money.

And they're cheap to make. The profit margin on his horror output must be through the roof.

The first "Conjuring" was one of those films that critics and audiences seemed to love but I was extraordinarily underwhelmed by. I don't think I'll be seeing this one, but it should be interesting to see where it ends up both critically and commercially.

The good thing about this series is that each movie is going to have it's own completely different story, and it wont be held down by the fact that it's a sequel. In Wan I Trust. Can't wait for this

It's basically follows the Warrens. I read all their books as a kid. Freaked me the fuck out!

I enjoyed the movie a decent amount but I don't think I'd go as far as you. It was a solid throwback and what worked for me was the throwback stylings and direction of it all. I also think what helped it as well was everything felt very tight in the movie, not a lot of excess fat which I feel is a big sin a lot of horror movies commit, even some fan favorites around here like It Follows.

In terms of horror movies at least, I don't think I'm going that far, as its directing, acting and cinematography is pretty heads and shoulders above a lot of horror movies. Sure, a lot of horror movies are terrible and have no sense of those things, but my point stands! :p

All the actors were good and completely sold what was happening, which is a feat considering all the kids/teens. That one scene where the girl sees something in the doorway, her performance is so fucking good that she absolutely convinces you that she's seeing something and we don't even see what she's seeing.

If that isn't solid damn horror filmmaking I don't know what is.

Strange. It should have embargo until 7th.

Great movie, it's almost as good as the first one (which is one of the best horror movies in recent years). Wan is great in creating dark ambience. Few jump scares even got me. Good stuff.

He's directing Aquaman though. He might have been booked for that when he was offered Furious 8.

Lol I think we actually agree. I just think horror movies are some of the hardest films to pull off, more so than drama, or comedy or anything else. Its really hard to scare people, hell its really hard to even make people uncomfortable. Me even saying a horror movie is solid is a big compliment as the majority of horror movies I watch are so so bad which I believe you might be of the same mindset.

Enfield is twenty minutes up the road from me, always been fascinated by the real story, and although this has clearly been given the Hollywood treatment In regards to the facts i'm looking forward to seeing it (loved the first Conjuring)

Insidious 2 doesn't work with this narrative.

It also doesn't not work with this narrative. Wan is talented and has been making solid horror movies. Insidious 2 isn't his best effort, but I didn't think it was bad. Still had good directing, acting and shots.

Absolutely. Horror is incredibly hard (if you're actually trying to make something scary), which is why most of them are shit, and when you get something good like what Wan typically does, it's a treat.

Nah. The production was a cluster (for obvious reasons) and Vin was a bitch to deal with to the point where he had health problems.

I'm sure Warner is giving him control over Aquaman.
