Conjuring 2 Review Thread

It also doesn't not work with this narrative. Wan is talented and has been making solid horror movies. Insidious 2 isn't his best effort, but I didn't think it was bad. Still had good directing, acting and shots.

Absolutely. Horror is incredibly hard (if you're actually trying to make something scary), which is why most of them are shit, and when you get something good like what Wan typically does, it's a treat.

I think Insiduous 2 being PG-13 was a big problem too.

I hate how this series legitimizes the real-life scam artists Ed and Lorraine Warren.

Does it? I can't speak for the public at large but I tend to roll my eyes when things like horror movies are based on "real" stories or the like. It was pure entertainment for me.

eh, I mean The Conjuring was PG-13. You can do a lot and make a solid, scary film within that rating. I'm not saying Insidious 2 is great, again it's the weakest of the three (3rd one was actually pretty damn good especially for a first time director) but in terms of shitty horror movies, I mean I wouldn't put it in that bracket. Even if I disliked it, I'd still consider Wan to be a real talent.

Conjuring was R. First Insidious did fine with the rating but the second was such a mess.

It was rated R. It was even a big point for its marketing, as they claimed it was the first R-rating given to a film for being too intense in the scare department.

Oh man, for sure I thought The Conjuring was R rated.

ETA- Ok, definitely R.

I really like the husband and wife dynamic in the first film. Felt more real than just a regular "oh shit haunted house wooo" thing most horror movies are. It had some characters you actually kind of cared about. So hopefully this one is good. I like Farminga and Wilson (who isn't in enough things, dammit!)

First one was great...but the previews for this one really made me feel skeptical.
Probably still seeing it opening weekend.

It was R, I stand corrected. Weirdly I don't really think it had much to earn that, I mean it had some fucked up shit in it but it felt PG-13 to me.

Never ever found anything in these movies the least bit scary at all, but they do have good atmosphere and the first was more humorous than anything. I'll give it a watch.

First one was good, actually creepy and not too in your face. I'm hoping the new one will be as good.

Noticed it's playing tonight, too. I'm tempted to go see it either tonight or tomorrow, before I go on vacation. Been looking forward to it, as I liked the first one a lot.

These movies aren't the least bit horrifying but they are well made and have a great atmosphere and style. Will definitely check it out.

Just an opinion. Better than the first one. Excellent direction and craft. Story. Good writing. No reliance on jump scares.

I know. I'm super excited for it, and have been wanting to see it for quite some time. I just don't want to go in expecting too much and then end up being disappointed.

Saw it last night. The craft is on point but the film feels kind of toothless compared to the first. Not to mention the pacing is way way off. Appreciate the change in region though.

Can't wait for this, me and the wife absolutely loved the first. Won't be coming to my town until july, is it released sooner everywhere else?

Looking forward to this, I like a good horror flick, especially ones with the sexy Vera Farmiga!

Should be fun, not convinced the Enfield Poltergeist has any legitamacy though.

The Conjuring was the first James Wan film I've somewhat enjoyed. I had many issues with it, particularly with the ending, but Wan really demonstrated his talents with it. I never had much hope for the sequel, so I'm glad to see that the reviews are positive.

I watched this a few months ago. There's something in it I loved because of it's creepiness and I wish there was more of it. The cast is fantastic and the children really make this movie work.

James Wan knocked the movie out of the park. Perfect horror film.

The crooked man design is fucking awesome and I want more of it

Looking forward to this tomorrow. I thought Insidious works well when you pair up 1 and 2. Without the second one, the film feels incomplete. Conjuring was better at maintaining tension though.
