So what should i actually do in the first 2 - 3 hours ?

i hate my inventory so definitely looking for a drop pod is important, but beside that, what else ? i cant find any vendor to sell my resource to, the closest space station dont have any merchant, just an alien that want to teach me their language and my inventory is now full..

should i just find another planet ?

i mean, im stuck.. or am i doing something wrong ?

Seriously? You can't even see it in the game itself, so how is it a spoiler.

It's a spoiler because you're not supposed to know who or what you are. Are you human, alien, something else entirely? That's supposed to be a mystery, something you can only find out by seeing another player. Which it doesn't seem like you can do yet, but again, it's just something that's meant to be a mystery, and now that has been ruined.

At the space station get close to the sphere terminal thing sticking out of the wall. You can sell and buy stuff there.

I.. I think im liking the game after 5/6 hours so far? Mostly I couldn't stop, so that was a good sign.
However, weirdly yesterday I played Evochron Legacy for the first time while i was waiting for NMS to download and I almost think im liking that better... as strange as that may seem.

Evochron is a Freelancer like game made by one person.. over many many years, but it kind of scratches the itch I thought No Mans Sky would scratch better than NMS for me possibly.. I don't know, it just feels more...alive..and theres much more to the space flight.

Its strange, I looked forward to NMS for so long and ive loved some certain moments but really really been let down by a lot of things. Hard to recall another game i was this pumped for that let me down in a long time.

Anyways if anyone else feels like something is missing or they are looking for more in depth space flight maybe have a look at Evochron, there is a demo on steam i believe..
I'm going to keep digging into both and see how i go..

I think you might have missed the galactic trade terminals. There is one every space station, as well as one in every planetside base that has a spaceship landing pad. They kinda look like big metallic eyeballs built into the wall. Sometimes you'll even find one just chilling as a waypoint out in the middle of nowhere.

Disappointed that reviewers aren't talking about this,
.Theres is an interesting side story thread if you keep finding these..I've found three logs so far that seemingly connect.

That and the mysterious history lessons/lore you get from the monoliths... All I see is people doing the "grind loop" I search this stuff out.
How do you folks track this stuff down though

You are a lego dwarf dude.

Congrats it's fucking nothing. I cringed so hard at reading this. Nothing has been ruined. How you look is completely irrelevant because outside of someone data mining it you would never be able to see how you look.

Also it is a FIRST PERSON GAME. Who gives a shit how the player model looks. I could be a donkey. Would that change anything when I'm playing the game? I mean I guess I would question the sanity of the aliens if they would talk with a donkey but that is about it.

Just search for the proper things you need to fix your ship up and get off the planet. Then just go after as many question marks on planets as you can for a bit. Dont worry about making money until you can get to space and visit the space station.

I already tagged it, I already apologized for it (hereby again), no need to insult me.
Like I said, I'm new here, but I would assume minor spoilers are a part of official threads to keep discussions going?

You didn't do it right then. It's still 100% visible right on the page where you posted it.

And sure, spoilers are inevitable even in non-spoiler threads, but then you spoiler tag! Oh well, better luck next time.

I've been duping a bit and got a 34 ship, I'm going to find wreck ships to get a 48 slot one eventually. I have like 5 mil on me at the moment so I should be set for awhile.

One other annoying thing.

Some points of interest that I already found and exhausted still show up on my HUD and when I go to them they're already used up.

Monuments are one of them. I go to them, learn the languages and the special Q&A thing and leave, but when I hit the scan button, the monument still shows up on my HUD and doesn't look any different then other monuments I haven't explored yet.

It's make it difficult to differentiate the ones I already visited vs. the ones I haven't visited yet.

Probably just a bug though?

All space station have a merchant in the form of a Galactic Trade terminal.
It's a big metal machine on the wall with a blue light in the middle.
They usually have terminals that give out blueprints too.

Some of the buildings on planets have trade terminals too

You can also walk directly up to any space ship, whether in a space station hangar or on a planetary landing pad, and interact with it to trade directly with the owner of the ship.

If they ever patch in that you can see another player, they will probably chance the models also. So then you have a new mystery. If it ever happens.

How do you folks track this stuff down though
I ran into a few of those already. Just go for the question marks that show up and fly around. There are a lot of outposts on the planets I have been to.

Well I removed the picture now, lol, so if it's still visible it's probably a cache problem.

It ruins the mystery of who you, the player, are in all this. I may not know that anyway, but at least now I can rule many possibilities out based on just what I saw. I don't know if the game will even reveal it, but I was looking forward to finding out. Or not. The point is that I previously knew nothing about all that, and now I know more than I wanted to. But oh well.

So those waypoint stations (where the camera zooms right out) - what are they actually for? As far as I can tell they just highlighted a single location on the planet.

It might not be the player model. For info. I'm Datamining the game, there's lots of stuff they haven't used.

Ok, cool. The safest thing to do with really spoilerific images is to link to them (with a non-spoilery image name, of course) instead of embedding them.

And I didn't mean to insult you, so apologies. I just can't stand when people openly spoil stuff with no regard for others.

I don't know if people were still looking for these, but I've just landed on a planet with both zero plant and animal life.

I landed on a moon with no wildlife or plants - the only thing it has was gold. I stayed there for hours mining, made a fortune.

While flying, the POIS you've already been to appear on your HUD but are a little bit pale and desaturated compared to brand new ones. While on foot, small language learning cylinders you've already activated are lit up in the center.

This perfectly describes how I feel about the game.

I am married with 3 kids and having this to play after 9pm every night when things quiet down is just pure bliss. I've been burnt out on the stress of games like Destiny, The Division and more that are fun with friends but always so stressful whether it's a raid or RNG.

Having a game where I make the rules and choose my path at my own pace is such a breath of fresh air. Despite the relaxed nature you are still making important decisions and progress in the game whether it's new tech or money for a new ship. It does an amazing job of letting you role play in this vast universe in a fun and meditative way.

thanks ! lmao

now, i believe gold is the one you sell ? or should i just sell everything except plutonium? since im still at my first planet, and still have a lot of resources there (although already fixed my ship and all)

EDIT: I literally put spoiler tags around it, what else do I have to do?

Mobile gaf will still see it even if it's tagged I think.

Don't worry, it was mistske. Safer to keep that stuff to the spoiler threads in the future though :)

I landed on what was apparently a paradise planet, stepped out of my ship, breathed in the air of this new paradise and was instantly attacked by not one, not two, but 3 totally different species of beast. Had to leap into my ship to escape. Decided to go for a swim as this was my first water I've found, was attacked by a meat eating fish, then nearly drowned trying to escape as for some reason it's very difficult to swim on the surface. Went for a fly to calm myself, found my first ever crashed ship, hooray! Turns out to be vastly worse than my starting ship. Then I was attacked by a fifth species as I looked around the wreckage.

Paradise my ass.

Fantastic video. Fucking truth right there.

Reposing on new page so more people will watch it. This is games journalism I like.

The thing about those other games in comparison to NMS is they actually had strong gameplay and narratives that hooks the player as well as a world worth exploring and losing yourself in.

I'm not sure NMS has either as I would expect a lot of players to become incredibly bored after about a week's worth of time exploring it's samey 18 quintillion planets and it is obviously lacking in the gameplay department (not expecting Destiny/Halo-like play but definitely something more than what was given).

This game needs to stop flinging me off the planet when I take off, it's super annoying. Anyone else getting this bug?

Aim your ship DOWNWARD when you hit the thruster button.

If you just hold the thruster down you shoot off into orbit. It's good for quick escapes from sentinels, but bad if you want to just cruise the surface.

Not that I would say that the quality of game design and gameplay mechanics is on par with the other games. He was specifically talking about just walking around in the forests of Tamriel or just riding your horse to Mexico in RDR, the lonely silent times. The whole "walk in the woods" aspect of those games was appealing and NMS has that sense about it for sure.

Ive already put more hours into NMS than I have most games in the last few years. Its doing something right and that video does a great job of explaining why someone like me loves it.

Not that far in, paid 2.3mil, doesn't have a super big inventory but I'm loading it all up with weapons and shields anyway.

What you're looking for depends on what you want to do, if you want to prioritize cargo space, a better hyperdrive than you have, pre-installed weapons, etc.

Yeah I was waiting to find some good ships that's fast with a lot of storage. But the ships I see are mediocre at best.

I don't want to be a downer in here at all, because I'm trying to love it, I really am, and I love actual RPGs, but im struggling to find a true sense of role playing here when a lot of things are ending up looking the same. Every second outpost I come across feels randomly placed, with no history or lore to draw me in even the slightest unless its a main story thread one. Its just.. I don't know, a lot of stuff feels like it is missing. In other Sandbox space sims you at least get a sense of the world going on around you... No Mans Sky feels like one of the most lonely, desolate games I have ever played. Maybe thats the point I'm missing...?

The Mexico bit in RDR is what this game has often reminded me of.

I really need to get out of this galaxy I am in. It is filled to the brim with toxic planets. One is highly dangerous in terms of aggressive sentinels and extreme toxicity storms. Only benefit of that one are those glowing orbs.

Decided to skip town once I got the 4 star wanted level. Little did I know I couldn't enter the space station if you did something 'naughty' off world. My ship got destroyed in the process because I got into a fight with both pirates and sentinels.
