Rivet was incredibly endearing and the game was great fun........ what would have resulted from this guys politics is a more boring character design that people simply wouldn't have cared about as much.
In fact people would instantly see through that decision and it would turn them right off the game.

As much as I liked Rivet, I cant help but think that politics kept the story from being a bit more interesting. There was a pretty surprising lack of chemistry between Ratchet and Rivet. They were kept apart for pretty much the entire game for some bizarre reason. It's almost like they didnt even want any kind of sexual tension building between the two of them despite the two literally being the only remaining people of their species.

What's bizarre is that Disney cartoons have had romance since forever. Cindrella, Sleeping Beauty, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Lion king, Aladdin, etc. If Disney didnt shy from romance in the fucking 50s then why are video game developers creating asexual characters in 2021? The story felt very stale and I think a bit part of that is because these characters werent allowed to interact with each other.

There is likely a lot of ideas stifled by attitudes and people like the one featured in your OP.

I think the fact that this argument is taking place is pretty much the reason why the industry is in such a disarray at the moment. Why is the director being overruled? Why is the director having to explain himself to writers and artists? Their job is to do what he wants them to do. I cant imagine fucking Stanley Kubrick arguing with the fucking prop guys for half an hour. No it's HIS movie and everyone is there to help him achieve HIS vision.

I say no more meetings. Make fast decisions. There is way too much collaboration taking place in this industry. It is costing precious dev time because apparently everything needs a brainstorming session. No wonder everything is getting delayed.

There is a reason why Kojima put out a brand new IP in 3 years while hiring staff and literally building his own studio with just 80 people while 300 people studios over at Sony are struggling to get sequels out in less than 5 years. Director = Dictatorship. Games industry needs to adopt this mentality.

Ratchet's Game Director and Art Director wanted Rivet to look feminine. This guy and two others did not. Sounds like any other workplace disagreement but the fact that he publicly throws his bosses under the bus just rubs me the wrong way. There is nothing wrong with what they did. They are the directors. I recently watched the new space jam movie with the wife (we're in our mid/late 20s) and she complained about how they basically made one of her favorite characters from her childhood (lola bunny) into what basically in her words looks like bugs bunny's little brother lol.
