Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is a massive accomplishment in the CRPG space. The game has a lot of improvements when it comes to systems and mechanics, making it more accessible to new players and veterans alike while managing to deliver new and interesting content. If you've been meaning to dive into the immersive world of the Pathfinder Series, you certainly won't be disappointed with WotR.

World building is incredibly richer and darker featuring the use of dynamic lighting and bold colors to match the despair caused by the invasion of demons. It’s also much more reactive based on the choices you make whereas combat is as epic as it can be.

I'm on a huge CRPG mood lately having finished Pillar of Eternity 2 and played Tyranny and Kingmaker(Owlcat first game) recently . Honestly I'm not really into the world of Kingmaker but the darker vibe and demons/cultist/corruptions setting in WotR is right up my alley .

Kingmaker was an excellent CRPG after bugs were fixed. Maybe not as good as Divinity but definitely shat all over Pillars of Eternity and Deadfire. The only potential negative of the game was a relatively bright tone and setting.

This seems to be darker, edgier and still based on Pathfinder ruleset with even more options. I played a bit of beta and preordered on Kickstarter and I'm happy to see those reviews. This was never going to get the 9-10s just because it's not AAA but high-8s is as good a validation that this game is going to be awesome as I could hope for.

Only first chapter AFAIK , then a corruption mechanic to dissuade constant resting . All in all it's more forgiving and short term .

Yes. I reviewed it at launch and it was a MESS. This game however, not only is it a near-perfect sequel, it does have some bugs (mostly graphical actually - no game breakers or progression breakers so far encountered). A lot of the original games bugs came from a very shaky engine, which seems has been greatly improved here.

As the reviews state it really does step forward almost every aspect of the original, and most importantly, gives the story a very linear path for you to follow and a presence that was lacking in Kingmaker. The story felt like it was 'in the background' in the first game, here it is centre stage. I am loving it - just wish I had more time to play....

The fact I can become a lich and it be so richly fleshed out is marvellous.

As I was progressing along the game I started to wonder why one of my companion quests hadn't triggered.
If I remember it right, in previous chapter(?) I should've had that companion in my party while traveling between two points on the map and have a random encounter to trigger it. No other way to do it, and if you went past that chapter you're screwed.

ao I'm quite early on but some classes are seriously overpowered. Playing on hard so not even the most difficult setting and my Grenadier Alchemist is destroying everything in his path. I suspect they will address the balance issues once major bugs are dealt with but for sure mutagens and bombs need a nerf.

I haven't quite settled on my thoughts but so far it's better than Kingmaker but slightly worse than PoE 2 in terms of my cRPG 'good list'.

anyway, so I ran into my first game breaking bug. Had to load a save far earlier and lost a lot of progress..

there is a battle around 15 hours in that caused two of my party to become cursed. It is supposed to be curable by resting at an inn... my support wizard was cured but my main character is still perma-cursed and I cant seem to get out of it. Tried to respec to see if that worked and now I have two instances of perma curse on his ass, guess I'm fucked also respeccing reset all of my portraits for some reason, not sure if that is a bug or if I missed the option to change it or whatever.

5 hours in and so far it's been a pretty bugless experience. The game's amazing, a huge improvement over Kingmaker in every possible area.

It's mind blowing how many different classes, races, and skills are there.

Haven't played it that much yet but was happy to see they fixed all of the bugs I had from the early access version. Kingmaker was a fantastic game (better than Pillars in almost everything) shadowed but how buggy it was at launch (it's perfectly fine now). Hopefully the studio gets with Wrath the recognition they deserve.

I get you, but because we only seem to get quality CRPGs every few years, I'd be pretty disappointed if any of them were short affairs. If they reached first-person shooter levels of release frequency, then I'd probably be fine with it, but not with how things are now. Also, I've read the game is beatable in around 40 hours if you don't go out of your way, which seems entirely reasonable to me for this genre.

They probably haven't looked at it because they probably won't get the traffic that would warrant them allocating resources to it. They won't until BG3 comes out because that's the one upcoming title in this space that will move the needle. Remember that DoS2 is considered a monumental success in this genre and it sold a little over 1 million copies. It's not incompetence, it's just business and the unfortunate reality that a lot of people just don't really care for these types of games nowadays.

I never could get into Pillars lore, mostly because every fucking race and subrace had a completely alien name which prevented me from catching the early clues of who's who and what's what. They would talk redceras and arloutedrfdf;sdljfs and I had no fucking clue whether they were talking about humans, elves or dwarves.

I was completely lost.

And you know what's the stupidest thing? Fuckers had a lore cyclopedia in the game and they didn't bother to put the races in there.

I'm still at the beginning but the first hours you have 3 or 4 woman companions, strong female leaders, lesbian couple, etc. It's on the nose, for sure, but the writing does not seem to suffer for it. They just basically made more female characters, opposite of what we're used to. It also seems whoever wrote the character creation spells/details only had women in mind because no matter what gender you pick it's always her in the description "using her abilities does w/e.." Could be a bug. That being said, I am playing on Hard and it took me an hour or so with luck and tons of potions and scrolls to beat a boss after dying 100 times. Enjoying it so far.

Previous Pathfinder had many pro-feminist vibes as well, but nothing that made you cringe. It was written well.

Tabletop games have been embracing diversity for a while now, DnD most of all - which makes sense considering the player base has shifted, somewhat. DnD was always about the unsocial nerd coming out of their shell and be a hero in their own little fantasy world - and minorities are no different. Having a game where you can 'live out' your LBGT fantasies must have great appeal to them.

Sounds good! I will probably pick it up on sale in a year or so (or whenever MandaloreGaming reviews it and gets GoG to do a deep discount). I will keep trying to finish the first game over the next year or so. Best thing about these CRPGs is that they are pretty easy to pick back up after you finish a chapter/act.

This coming out reminded me i was supposed to finish kingmaker and came back to a save file with a 75% of the game done after 1.5 year. Its been pretty weird, doesnt help that i played it while drinking usually so i half remember most of the plot points. Good thing is i seemed to have been very op so kind of steamrolling through stuff, its fun.

Will do wrath after this.

Small advise to Pathfinder / d&d newcomers, dont stress much on multiclassing. More often than not, its better/easier to go through with 1 class all the way then dip into another class.
