Made me go look at my time played and would have honestly guessed I had more hours in than what I do

You've burned the correct amount of your life-time though, that is all that matters ;) Keep it going brother.

We turned up gathering, and down tame time / requirements on our server. Had ~8 people max and all friends and family. Truly great experience.

This redux will breath years of life into the game, which really is an unparalleled survival/crafting/exploration/multiplayer/dungeon/builder.

Do you get this for free if you have Survival Evolved?
They had originally said if you owned the original game and all the dlc you would get this free when they were just porting it

I guess a bit ago on their Discord they said since its a remaster now they plan on charging everyone for a full priced game unless you are a Twitch Partner and streamed it at some point (which is dumb)

So this is a remaster and not Ark 2 starring vin diesel?

So is this just the original game ported to a new engine?

The animations and some of the effects look just as janky as they did in the original game.

Looks like it will be $40 plus a Q&A

ARK: Survival Ascended includes access to all of ARK’s worlds, including Scorched Earth, Aberration, Extinction, ARK Genesis Part 1, ARK Genesis Part 2, and more. The Island is released now, with the subsequent expansion worlds to be added at no additional cost on a regular basis.

Why Early Access?
“We've decided to use the Early Access model for multiple reasons. The most valuable reason is that we found it very constructive to develop our studio’s original title, ARK: Survival Evolved, in tandem with the community’s continual feedback, and seeing as ARK: Survival Ascended (ASA) will have its own set of gameplay features, we wanted to have the opportunity to do the same with the wisdom of the many.

ASA is also being developed on the latest version of Unreal Engine 5; much like ARK: SE at the time of its development early in its engine’s lifecycle, there’s a lot of new tech and systems being explored in innovative ways, and we’ll need to ensure that we’ve worked through all the kinks.

Finally, ASA has its own unique content roadmap in addition to the remade expansion pack content, which gives us an opportunity to develop closely with the Community. Once we’ve delivered our plans, we can officially leave Early Access.”
Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
“We're expecting to be in Early Access until the end of 2024. That said, as we get farther down our development path, we'll share continued updates that help to define a more specific timeline for bringing the game out of early access.”
How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?
“ARK: Survival Ascended will differ at full release from Early Access in the following ways:

In addition to The Island, the following content will be available, remade, in Unreal Engine 5:

Survival of the Fittest (Battle Royale)
Scorched Earth
Aberration
Extinction
Genesis Part 1
Genesis Part 2

The previously released free DLC will also be available: The Center, Ragnarok, Valguero, Crystal Isles, Lost Island, and Fjordur. Each of these respective maps will receive one completely new creature nominated by the community.

We also plan to add new original story content to ASA that will be tied to future story-themed DLC, as well as new gameplay and content additions to the overall product that isn’t available on Day One.”
What is the current state of the Early Access version?
“We've redesigned and rebuilt the game from the ground up, and for Day One, we'll be launching with the first official map, The Island, and Official Mod support.”
Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?
“Once the game is ready to leave Early Access, we’ll be reevaluating its price point based on all the available content/gameplay and make our decision at that time.”
How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?
“Community involvement is, perhaps, the most important reason why we think it best to launch ARK: Survival Ascended as an Early Access product. Developing directly with the community’s input is important to us, and we plan to do so by directly engaging with players across multiple social channels and platforms, including Discord, Twitter, and the Message Boards at SurviveTheARK.com. We will also conduct creature votes for each map, so players can directly determine what creatures are added to ASA. We’ll also have tools available to take player feedback and bug reports to ensure that ASA will continue to be the remake of your next-gen dreams!”

I never played Ark. I'd love to play with my wife but I think the thought of it overwhelms her and the aversion to PVP def. doesn't help. Looks cool though.

My wife played with me for a very long time and we played on a PVE server and she loved helping build our base and hunting and scavenging

These type of games are likely more fun playing PVP servers if you have a large group of people defending your base but thats not for me

I haven't played online in quite awhile but one of the things I enjoyed doing on a PVE server was finding other peoples bases and if they had not logged in for like 7 days then you could enter their base and loot it so I always made my rounds on my bird

Plus you could claim land and no one could build close to you so when neighboring bases went deserted I would always put out structures to keep increasing my base size

yeah playing on official servers is shit. Nothing but toxic people who just want to ruin your shit through exploits etc. tried it solo but wasn’t as fun. Game should just be co-op tribes trying to survive against the world

Honestly I'm pretty floored by the graphical power of this trailer. The first ark was cool but nothing special to me but after seeing this it could really interesting.

And I'm all for full mod support. Every game should adapt this eventually if they want their games as a service to last.

UE5, can't wait for the PC performance thread.

UE5 has been frustratingly uneven despite the promises and tech demos, so yeah, it'll be interesting to compare and to see if any game bucks the bad trend we've had of initial UE5 game releases (outside of Fortnite.)

This is heavy on procedural content placement and other features which could play well with the engine.

(Ark Survival Evolved has also generated over a $billion in revenue, so maybe this studio has a little more funding to avoid the issues that other recent games have struggled with...)

Animations still look dogshit and no sign of improvement... Can't believe they're charging $50 for a graphic upgrade..

Ran out and bought a 4070ti for the wife whose aging 1080 is likely not up to the task.

T-minus 1 hour until its supposedly on steam

Play locally solo or with a friend (or better yet run a server on your LAN) -- amazing game once you discover the loop / endgame / building / taming.

Arguably one of the best games of all time once you 'see it'.
