Development is complete on FFIX

Xeen did the Romancing SaGa 2 remake that's coming out next month. There's a demo out on the PS store, I tried, it, looks decent enough for an old school JRPG remake. I'd be satisfied if the FF9 remake looked like that, but I guess SE wanted to polish it up some more themselves since it's a mainline FF game.

I hope it's different from the fanmade project, an appreciable work but for me it showed a lack of "charisma" and vision, i don't like that type of stylized...

What about
Quina_Quen.png

Wait and see.
I'm not getting excited just yet.
Like someone else said, the joke was that Quina was amorphous and they didn't know whether they were a he or she. It won't fly today, but I hope they don't straight up make Quina non binary, because they weren't. Quina had a gender, we just didn't know what it was.

Ideal scenario for me on how they can handle this in a remake is to drop the joke entirely since it'll just create bad publicity, and Quina has plenty of other comedic relief elements to work with.

They just need a single scene of Zidane or someone asking something along the lines of, "What are you?" And then Quina says something like, "What you mean? Quina is Quina." Or something like that. Keep it vague still, but don't ignore it. Just don't have it be a recurring joke.

In a sea of GAAS flops and Star Wars stinkers I'll gladly replay a new shiny version of this beautiful adventure with memorable characters, masterpiece soundtrack, endearing characters and all set in a very imaginative world.

Here an ideal scenario - keep it the same.

FFIX is perfect the way it is, so I agree.

But I also know they aren't going to keep it the same for a remake. I just don't want them to make Quina non binary, and that was my best idea for how they could handle it.

In Dissidia Opera Omnia, Quina was saddly a They/Them...

Vivi was a He/Him
Don't mind the they/them angle IF it's canon with the original.

From memory it was never revealed what gender Quina was in the OG and the characters speculated on it?

If my memory is correct then that angle is fine as it's not constructed like that narratively to champion an ideology, but rather just a quirk of what was already a very weird character.

Nice now how about ff8!!??
If 9 is a commercial success then they probably will do a similar pre-rendered 4k remake for 8. (please use Squall's original design).

I think they'll save 10 for the 7R treatment but do it as one game for PS6 as the world is about Rebirth's size. There were shakey rumours it was being conceptualised with a skeleton crew as we speak.

6 maybe a HD-2D remake as it would be too much of amega project as a AAA PS5/PS6 fidelityy game, bigger than 7 arguably because for that they had a visual style from Advent Children as a base for the world/characters. For 6 all the art assets, designs etc... would take an age to preplan into modern visuals.

My greed comes from fear that the industry will implode and reshape into something hideous after the next decade and that the future audience will play nothing but GAAS junk and just rotate between like 5-10 games which will make the market for these kind of games unsustainable. Maybe after the PS6 generation.

So if I can retire in a gaming bunker with these as the final FF games:

1. The final part of 7R
2. FF10R - one game
3. FF17
4. FF9R with pre-rendered backgrounds
5. FF8R with pre-rendered backgrounds
6. FF6 HD-2D remake

I'll be content and can watch the industry collapse in peace.

Correct, Quina had a gender, it was just never revealed. Characters in the game would refer to Quina as "he/she" or "him/her."

I'm alright with "they/them" too, because it's just the current accepted way to refer to someone when you aren't sure of their gender. Like you said, it doesn't break the canon.

If they include something like Quina not identifying with either gender, i.e. making the character non binary, then it breaks canon.

Hope they don't break the canon. Japanese games are largely free of the bullshit with the pandering to the mob and it's nice this way.

I'm sincerely excited by this project and will play it day 1. I wonder what they will do with the soundtrack.

Maybe they’re pulling the Nintendo card and saving it up as a gap filler. They definitely don’t need a second big JRPG remake/remaster for Q4. Best to wait to announce it until Dragon Quest III has already been out for a bit, and has had room to breathe.

Nintendo might have marketing for it and Dragon Quest 12. They would be great launch year titles for Switch 2.
