CD Project Red:Having Ciri as lead will help explore Witchers Sexism [Clickbait, read the actual quotes]

I guess the more we know about the game the less I want to play it. Welp, we will see what happens with this in 4-5 years when the game actually releases.

CDPR have tackled transgenders, gays, sexism, suicide, rape, infanticide, crucifixions, and all kinds of other shit in their previous games, and it never came off heavy handed.

They are literally not doing anything they haven't done before.

Maybe you should read the actual article and what the developer wrote?

It has literally nothing to do with the crap you put into your OP

This makes sense and there is nothing being spoke of that has nothing to do with woke idiological stuff you are proclaiming.

Can't you guys fucking read at least?
I did read and CDPR did say they would address the issues of sexism and racism with the baited questions from RPS. I comprehend what I read just fine. I have been reading since I was 5.

"

And I think some of those questions might be going in this direction as well, because, yeah, Ciri is a woman, and as a witcher in this world, this is an unusual state. So I don't think it's going to be this story everywhere, but since this is a part of this world, and we want to tackle so many of those different themes, it's definitely also going to appear there as well."

It depends on how heavy handed and preachy they get with this angle whether it will be annoying or not.

"their games aren't woke just because CDPR talks about ESG and DEI nonstop"
"Witcher 4 won't be woke even though the lore designer sounds like Anita Sarkeesian"
"Witcher 4 won't be woke just because it starts Ciri who underwent a masculine facial bone realignment surgery after Witcher 3"
"Witcher 4 won't be woke just because the lead dev says they will use Ciri to explore sexism"
YOU ARE HERE

2023 PL isn't woke, same for 2020 CP.

Their corporate video is awful but so far their products aren't infested with this shit.

Will W4 be woke? Who knows, but they can clearly see that tides are changing in 2024 so even if they intended to make it woke they still have enough time to change it. Unlike Sony or Ubisoft, they really don't have other things/games to recover from big financial flop of game like this so I doubt they will go fully woke/fuck the audience ND style (that is riding on Sony money).

I still do not understand why a reality warping Elderblood needs physical genetic augmentations. Seems like a dumb premise.

The devs have stated it's one of the first things they wanted to tackle when creating the game, so there's going to be a justification for it, we just don't yet know why. I've seen speculation that the white frost and second conjunction have diminished her power, but we'll see. They can't leave her OP like in W3 otherwise the entire game makes no sense.

The interviewer posed the question and CD Project Red answered.

In some of my other posts in this thread I have the relevant posts of CD Project Red. It could be a disaster depending on how heavy handed the developers go into the sexism, or racism angle for the storyline.

It's going to be funny to see how many people will/will not complain if you can or cannot have the sex scenes that Witchers of the past had with women but now with men. Roleplaying in an RPG doesn't matter anymore, right guys? So what if she's the opposite sex now, right people?

Not a fan of the directions CDPR has been taking but I decided to read the article to make sure considering the source and:

HE DIDN'T SAY THAT.

So yeah, this is 100% clickbait.
Yups, 100% clickbait article from leftist piece of shit site, ofc game could still be woke af, but so far the dev didnt say anything that would be anywhere close to what clickbait title suggest, even journo who asked question diddnt ask the question this way:

Dev:
"So in a way, even though Ciri is, of course, a defined character, with her, players will have the opportunity to still define her quite a bit more, specifically define the path that she will take on her way to becoming a witcher, and basically also what kind of person that will make her."

Journo trying to clickbait and lure the dev insto giving into woke ideology:
Naturally, Ciri also promises to bring a fresh perspective to the broadly misogynistic, alternately sensitive and pervy universe of The Witcher, a video game series that once let you collect porno cards for female characters, and still loves to make a spectacle of its nubile sorceresses.

To which dev answers, and we can differintiate it easily coz devs words are in quotes:
"I mean, I would say the world of The Witcher is a really dark one that's really inspired by, of course, dark fantasy folklore," Weber commented, when asked about the game's portrayal of gender politics and sexism. "But also medieval to early Renaissance history, and that is a world that was tough - tough for many different groups, women among them. As an example, in The Witcher, we also deal a lot with racism when it comes to non-humans, and this is something that we want to keep up with The Witcher 4. I think it's something that has always been really important.

Again dev:
"We make games for adults, and it also means that we tackle some difficult topics," he suggested. "We tackle them in interesting ways. We tackle them without giving easy answers, but often opening difficult questions that players have to answer.

Some other questions/answers were in there too but nothing in the interview was from the dev giving impression of being woke virus supremacists like Cuckmann is. It was all said in a classy way.

How heavy handed have they been in their past games? Oh right, not at all.

Wait, I think it's great that they make the world filled with sexism. It's medieval Europe, people back than have been sexist, racist, and every other -ist available. Go hard on it, make the world unforgiving, harsh and brutal. Better than having the world be filled with toxic positivity and inclusivity.

Even their trans character in CyberPunk, while still trans, there was absolutely no forced ideology about it. Other than a single line in dialogue mentioning it and a trans sticker on her truck, in a game centered around trans-humanism, that was it. The character was even well written and likable. They could have gone the BioWare route and had a whole sidequest about how oppressed she is or non-binary and center the whole thing around that, but nope. Your average player had no idea until the single line of dialogue mentioning it.

I only hope they dont give her the Lara Croft treatment...where she is being constantly depressive and whiney about this world...but instead takes things with humor and sheer violence...like her legendary "dad" did it before.

Man, idgaf, something I really didn't like about W3 was how every npc was a massive douche to the point the only stand out was the redhead, even the most lackey had this bad attitude towards Geralt, it was so annoying, game is great still, but they went overboard with that

I don't see how Ciri would be treated fair being a witcher herself, or it's because she's woman suddenly every asshat in the game would have to change the attitude for her? That's some Veilguard kumbaya level of writting the game doesn't need

Yeah but its done well,.not in a cringe or preachy fashion

Yep, it left players with "world is a cruel and fucked up place" impression, like most of TW3 - it's mostly gray when it comes to morality.

Question is, will they change it this time and make game woke or leave it the way it was? I hope they make those decisions based on potential financial loses.

Yes because nothing is less woke than applying 21st century moralizing to past historical eras and judging long dead people based on that

You guys are way too selective with this stuff. CDPR chose to show gender in the game as "body type" rather than sex/gender. They even got rid of the M/F that was there in pre alpha shots of the game. Yet if a pronoun appears in another game some go crazy about "pushing an agenda". Why not just say you like CDPR despite their "wokeness".

Depends what you mean by heavy-handed. The Scoia'tel in Witcher 2 are a group of rogue elves who fight for their kin due to the discrimination and mistreatment they face at the hands of humans. It's a big theme that takes center stage in the first chapter of the game.

I wouldn't call this woke yet if it's just some form of light based sexism. Like I can see some parts of the game maybe a village where some of of the people would doubt Ciri could do as good of a job as a normal male Witcher which she then prove them wrong when she comes back with the monsters head. Something like this seems normal and alright without going toward the trashy woke route.

This is what I was thinking too. Hopefully it's the case and I'll reserve my judgement until after I play it.

Totally understand people being skeptical though. Too many game developers just feel afraid of "offendimg" people. This is a problem...especially for an M rated narrative game, it doesn't do the game any favors.

We saying if game is woke, hell even 20% as woke as tlou2/intergalactic, we will call it out, right away, but this interview here was total 100% clickbait, and journo trying to bait dev into saying woke shit, which dev, being smart and sane human being, easily avoided ;)

Is the woke boogeyman in the room with us right now? You have a long history of complaining about this.

This is what I mean. You say Intergalactic is "woke". Even 5x more woke than cyberpunk? Why? because it's a bald/"unattractive" woman?

Yet Cyberpunk somehow isn't, even though it has body type A/B instead of genders M/F which they got rid of genders during development. You can put a dick or vagina on body type A or B. It has trans women in the story. Yet the bald woman is pushing an agenda?
People are choosing to define "woke" based on what devs/games they like it seems.

Rock Paper Shotgun? That sites lives off rage baiting players (like so many other similar sites these days). Don't feed them.

This whole "sexism" thing is a bit complicated. Especially in Sapkowski's work.

To cut a long story short, the novels are something of a precursor in the field of feminism (even if the term has become horrible to say). The women, especially the sorceresses, are strong and take center stage. Yen is, at times, unbearable, as she was in TW3.

But when Sapkowski wrote his novels, he obviously wasn't thinking in terms of contemporary feminism, and certainly not Metoo. Besides, women are scum in his universe too. They are almost, if not more, worse than men in terms of manipulation.

All the more so as the irreverent, sexualized side of CD Projekt's games, up until now, has been a perfect fit. And that's the beauty of it: Sapkowski's women use their charms and tits (fake, by the way, as they're usually old uglies) to get what they want. So, they represent the feminist side while playing up the assets of their breasts, like Alanah Pearce.

And what CD Projekt have done well so far is to show this: the strong but also dishonest side of women, without diminishing the men, especially Geralt.

If Ciri becomes a feminist 2.0 and belittles all men, then that would be a disaster. Because they'll be deliberately throwing away what Sapkowski did (who doesn't give a damn, he just wants the money). To be seen when TW4 comes out...

Exactly, they pick and choose depending on devs they like or there platform they support.

Witcher is gonna be more woke. Theres more evidence its gonna be more woke then Avowed, Concord or Intergalactic.
Look at one of the writers for Witcher 4 says:

Regarding, Netflix's The Witcher show, he wrote,
"Annoys me when people say Netflix's Witcher writers don't respect the lore. They have made sweeping changes, yes. Some of them have been questionable, others have been outright bad. But it is crystal clear that they love and respect Sapkowski's books. That is a lazy criticism."

"The thing that will never cease to amaze me about people who tirelessly defend Harry Potter is that they'll say, 'But you used to like it, you just don't like it anymore because you disagree with JKR's brazen transphobia' and it's like... Yes? Why would I need any other reason."

A writer for the Witcher 4, who likes the Netflix changes

Posted it here

Cp2077 is satire description of future america, it has to be the way it is to be believable.

We know exactly what Druckmann and his team of woke cucks gonna make, we had a sad foretaste with tlou2 of that already, and many of us didnt like it.
Funny thing is- i watched and hoped for Intergalactic to be good with open mind, but right away design of main character, so person we gonna look at basically all the time, is made so offputing it literally sucks out all of my fun of playing of this game.

I would be full of hopes if main character looked like barret from ff7(black person without a limb so plenty of DEI points), or that comic relief indian guy (again plenty DEI points for man to be indian, short and comic relief)or even if it was tiny bald blasian(mountain of DEI points again) but at least a male, i would expect him to know some martial arts and would be looking forward to pulling off some jet li shit in the game which honestly would be lit as fuck, but what we got was like operation Market Garden durning WW2- one bridge too far.

There was nothing satire about it. It was added last minute when games strived to be more inclusive.
Here is a screen before the change happened:

"We want you to feel free to create any character you want," is how Jonkers explains CD Projekt RED's change to character options. Players will no longer select their gender in character creation anymore. Early screenshots of character creation showed players choosing either "M" or "F" bodies. Instead, players will choose a body type.

I say satire as a whole setting of a world in thegame, it all feels like utopian clownworld, bodytype a/b is 5 seconds in character creator that u forget about right away, just like in elden ring ;)

Yes but that's just you treating it as satire which I guess you can do for any game?

When the person at CDPR is telling you it's about inclusivity why do you ignore that and pretend it is satire?

"Jonkers replied by saying that inclusivity is a priority for Cyberpunk 2077, which then led to a discussion regarding character creation in Cyberpunk 2077."
