Does Steam Deck limit Steam download speeds? My limit seems to be….

Does Steam deck limit download speeds on Steam?

Just upgraded to 1gbps ($80 a month with free mobile service I'll not use)

It's fast. So very first world issue. But it's half what it can be. Didn't know if I've hit a ceiling

Is it the OLED? That has an upgraded module that should hit nearly 1gbps consistently unless your router isn't up to snuff

Fair enough. Not exactly sad with half a gig DL speeds. AC Origins finished in 10 minutes

But… ya know. It's was the longest 10 minutes ever and didn't know what to do. Even though I'm not gonna play that game. lol 😂 just used it for testing
 
Might not be the Deck. Providers usually have clauses and whatnot to provide "up to" ____ speed but not guaranteed at all times. Run a speed test and see if it caps out. I also rarely hit my cap and usually get in the 600-800 Mbps range.

I typically get more than my rated speed from my provider (Spectrum)
 
I recall 23 years or so ago. Getting the platinum package (3mbps) and thinking wow. I can download a entire song in 1-2 minutes and it can't get better lol 😂

Because before that, I was Pira…. Ummm. Downloading songs on 56k and I'd leave my PC on overnight lol
 
Try going into settings-download-limit speed and put in something like 1000000000 as much as you can really then try and download something see if there's a difference.

Truth. Just glad spectrum doesn't have data caps like many. Xfinity still does I'm guessing? Just wild that they have data caps in 2025 when everyone streams and downloads 24/7. Madness

Nice. I've seen many on this board, that due to their location, can only get like 5mbps or 25 etc

So. To that end, I'm good. Also I'm in a very rural area. Extremely rural. Can't fathom speeds like those.

I went from 10mbps to 1gbps 2 years ago starting at 45 euro for 2 years now I'm up to 60 but I'll gladly pay up to 100 euro for Internet this good.

If you've an Xbox they do throttle big time the max you'll get is up to 220mbps I think. PS is about the same as you'll get on SD.

Damn. 200 sucks.(well doesn't suck. But not remotely as good) 10mbps is simply unacceptable in 2025 for even watching streaming services. Steam as I've found, typically will go up to whatever you can throw at it. So long as the hardware supports it. They do

Had spectrum (formally Charter) my entire life basically. Can't recall a single issue. Not saying it doesn't exist. I'm sure it does. But my connection is SELDOM down. Extremely rare. Can't hardly name a time it was down for more than minutes. Storms or whatever reason.

Had their service for decades and am 100% satisfied

No fiber available where I live. Yet.

I have a steam deck lcd and top out around 500-600mbps too. A lot of things can cause the 500mbps on the network side like other devices using bandwidth, signal strength, qos settings in the router, wifi interference(especially if you live in an apartment), etc. The network card in the steam deck lcd is a RTL8822CE and theoretical top speed is 864mbps. If i'm downloading a big game i just use a dock with ethernet. If you're downloading a game to the micro sd you wont see 1gbps because of the write speed.
 
Its probably the WiFi 6E connection capping out in the Steam Deck. Maybe try going closer to the router when downloading/transfering and see if you get faster speeds.

Otherwise you can get a dock or adapter with ethernet (connect via USB C) and you should be able to get full speed, no problems.

Yeah. And to be fair. I'm fine with 500+mbps. It's not that serious. Hah.
