Sorry if this is asked on every page but I just got my first iPhone (4) and was wondering where the most up to date gaf approved top games list is. The one linked to in the op is outdated. On a side note, any reason to get infinity blade 1 or should I just go straight to 2?

There is a link to the best of 2012 thread 1-2 pages ago. Sorry but being on an ipad here, the copy paste function is not really fun.
That being said, was it always like that or is there more of this kind of post these days ? Is Gaf embrassing his inner ios ? Just a question here, I'm historically platform-agnostic. The frequency of 'I'm a new user, tell me about the good stuff' strike me as pretty high these days.

Go ahead and get 2. Not that 1 is a bad game, but 2 improves on it in every way. As far as storyline goes-it could be summarized in about 3 sentences with a trip to wikipedia.

I feel the same way about Angry Birds being sullied by what Star Wars has become.

Yeah. I don't find anything about Angry Birds to be particularly charming, but fucking Jar-Jar Binks was an actual thing in a Star Wars movie. You can't stoop any lower than that.

Need for Speed is quite stunning

Ugh, looks like it was shot with a Lensbaby.

‘Almost nobody' is paying for critically-acclaimed Punch Quest

I know when I tried Punch Quest I thought that despite being yet another endless runner I could see why people liked the game. It didn't feel at all like a freemium title. And so I also thought, good luck with that RocketCat:(

Ouch.makes sense though, I've been playing the crap out of this game and never was once tempted by the iap. Gold should have been less plentiful (like 4x less), stuff should cost more and there should be more special money-only boosts. Or they could release some new levels/enemies for a fee. I'd pay for that.

That's a shame, but maybe a lesson learned.

I would rather have paid 69p to £1.99 for the game rather than invest in IAP's. Just an instant turn off for me and as a rule of thumb I generally don't buy anything on those lines, vs being happy to pay just about anything upfront.

Ughh is there any way to deblock a blocked achievement ?
I won the 200 triceratops one in Punch Quest and it was in the period when gamecenter was frozen. Now that it is operationnal again I still haven't the cheevo and in game I'm at 219 trheads...

Should I update the game ?

You're not the typical iOS user though, pretty much none of us on GAF are. The typical iOS user wants free apps and happily invests in IAPs, it's the best business model to pursue, really, but as Jedeye mentions, they just misjudged their economy.

Touch Arcade seems to really think Borderlands is a bad game.

Also, is NFS: Most Wanted optimized for iPhone 5? And does it have police chases as a mode maybe?

Typically the only way that can be resolved is if the developer releases a patch for that issue. I have gotten a few to "un stick" by installing and playing the game on a second iOS device.

My Need for Speed iOS Review is up:

http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/10/30/need-for-speed-most-wanted-ios-review

6.9 / 10 "Okay"

+Solid controls
+Hours of content
– Uneven difficulty
– Questionable In-App-Purchases
– Lifeless, personality-free courses

Please don't copy/paste - click and read it if you're curious. Even IGN pays attention to the traffic different subjects/platforms receive.

Edit: Also I've said it before but it's worth repeating - this is not a "negative" or "bad" review. Okay is Okay. This high on the "okay scale" is a hair away from good. I'm a big believer in "strong okay" game recommendations. Helps break away from the 7-9 review scale.

Thanks for the review Justin. I'm glad you're really pushing these reviews out in a timely manner....is the borderlands review tommorow?

Middle Manager of Justice sure dropped off the radar. Hope it doesn't get Ghost Reconned.

For awhile there Double Fine was talking about through Twitter, their website, and forums. Now it's been over a month since there's been anything. I'm fighting the temptation to download the early version and just play that, since it's showing in my "purchases" for some reason.

Best runner in the App Store, damn shame. Next time don't make it free for more than a day.

It is suppose to be a freemium. Like Jetpack Joyride, the problem lies is that this game doesn't have problems getting tons of coins in a period of time. I've bought more upgrades in my little playtime with it than twice the time I spent on Jetpack Joyride.

That's why people don't buy the coin packs.

Not a fan of coin packs, but if they offer a 2x booster for 1-2 bucks, I'll do it.

Same with how jetpack joyride did it.

Yeah, I'd be down with that, make it so you only earn around half (I'd probably go even less than that honestly) and have an unlock for a dollar or two for a coin doubler, SMAMC style. The amount of coins you earn really is pretty ridiculous, I already have all of the best powers and I'm only missing a few from the second and third tiers before I have them all. I still have a ton of upgrades to buy, but compared to Jetpack Joyride you get stuff pretty damn quick. It's cool they did that, but at this point I feel like I'm already pretty much done with the game and it's kind of hard to give them money out of the kindness of my heart when there's so many other games, many on sale right now, I could buy instead.

I really hope that Letterpress doesn't suffer this fate, I really like the game and bought the full version and it seems like it's getting a ton of awesome buzz, but it's pay model is a little too close to Outwitters for comfort. Hopefully the relative simplicity of the game means it can get a profit much easier, but hosting all of those games (I have like 15 active right now myself) has to add up.

Draw Race 2 is really, really fun. It seems like it could really make people better at games like Forza and Gran Turismo by teaching people about racing lines. If you're used to arcade games it's probably going to be frustrating at first but it's really satisfying to put down a great line and see your car zip through the track without sliding around. The only thing I don't like about it so far are the rally races, I really have no experience with rally racing and the lines I would normally use for the tracks don't get me anywhere. I'm slowly getting the hang of them, it seems like taking it much slower than I would on a track works well, but the offroad tracks are really impeding my progress.

The constant "Pay $2 to win with this amazing DLC car!" messages every time you fail a race would be really aggravating if I'd paid for the game (which hopefully wasn't very expensive what with it's other often advertised $5 "unlock all tracks" IAP) but I'll deal with it for getting an awesome game for free.

I'm a big believer in "strong okay" game recommendations. Helps break away from the 7-9 review scale.

Giving a game a tenth of a point lower than that range isn't exactly breaking the paradigm =P

My iPad Mini's smart cover arrived. Been mimicing what it will be like to play games on it. Seems like a really good size for gaming. Hopefully the reports of the chip being overclocked are true. Got a bunch of games in my iTunes waiting for a device to play them on.

Yeah I figured this thing would be a great gaming device especially with the games played in landscape mode. I'm ready for Friday.

Now where did you see reports of the chip being overclocked?

Thanks for the heads up, quoting for prosperity

I played through the entire early release, it was pretty good but needed a fair bit of work. Hopefully their inexperience with the platform and possibly poor response to the accidental release hasn't forced them to can it.

It had good potential just needed tightening up and a little more variety in my opinion

Interesting. I thought the iPad mini was the iPad 2,5 or whatever.

After playing so many Bejeweled/Match 3 games I am finding 10000000 VERY annoying in that it moves the whole row.

This will take some getting used to...
