fuck bayern
I hate Chelsea but I like this gif.

Patriots. All the Superbowls, though I don't remember Superbowl XX (only six at the time); I still have the autographed pennant my dad gave me.

The last two Superbowls have been fucking brutal.

I was anxious as fuck during game 7 of the Bruins/Canucks series but that didn't last long after the Canucks gave up.

When the Flyers came back from 3-0 down in the series and 3-0 down in game 7 to beat the Bruins 4-3 in the 7 game series. Best moment ever godDAMN

Seeing Bayern lose in the Champions League final last year. My day was completely ruined. Euro 2006 when that fucking octopus chose Spain to win against Germany in the finals. Yeah... Spain won.

The New York Giants. Not specific games, or even Super Bowl XLII or XLVI, just this team. I don't know which fucking team shows up ever.

The Pats Super Bowls and Game 7 Bruins against Canucks. I could not stomach losing to that team. Thank Goodness they won.
Tops is game 7 of the 2003 ALCS. Boone HR in extras. Fuck!!
I try as hard as I can not to give a shit but I do. Near heart attack inducing stuff here in New England.

January 24, 2010: The NFC Championship: Vikings vs Saints

My mom and I were in attendance at this game. It went back-and-forth all game long. The Saints defense let the Vikings rack-up yardage and completions on them left and right, but a series of freakish turnovers kept them in the game.

Toward the end, not much time left, Brett Favre drove the Vikings down the field to the edge of their field goal range. I remember having the worst stress headache in my life. Excedrin (and its more powerful friends) weren't touching it. Our section, and the Dome, was unusually quiet at that moment. I turned to Mom and told her silently, "Umm.. Mom.. it looks like we really need to pull a rabbit out of the hat right about now. Otherwise, we're boned." Apparently it was quiet enough for others around me to hear my statement, because I saw solemn nods of agreement after this statement. I could see the color draining from her grim facial expression.

Then, instead of running for a few extra yards, making for an easy kick for their field goal kicker, Brett Favre decided.. to slang it. And slang he did - right into the waiting arms of Tracey Porter.

That moment:

The stress was not over. Overtime would come.

I remember the coin flip. I heard Jared Allen, rolling his eyes, call "heads" on my headphones, prompting me to scream aloud, "Tails never fails, dumbass!" The crowd around me laughed nervously. There was a delay from what I was hearing on my headphones and what the stadium announcer was calling. Three seconds after my proclamation, our announcer screamed: TAILS.

I think that moment was one of the loudest moments I've ever heard in the Dome. Everyone there knew what this meant in terms of our odds. This was back when the rules dictated that whoever scores first wins, period. All we needed was to get into Hartley's range.

Pierre Thomas' kickoff return was fantastic. But then there were a series of plays that were all janky. Almost every one prompted a booth review, and oddly, most of the booth reviews went in our favor. Was this fate? I didn't feel good about some of those calls, even if they benefited us.

Then came time for The Kick. Hartley was far from being our Mr Reliable. He had missed several key kicks over the past season, but they had never really cost us that much, save for one embarrassing moment with Mr Benson up in his suite during the final game of the season.

After the players lined-up from the Vikings' attempt to ice Hartley, Mom grabbed my hand and squeezed. I could see the tears in her eyes welling-up. Next thing I know, my ear drums are blown-out and she has her face buried in my chest, bawling like a little girl. All that stress of decades of losing, gone. I can't hold it together either, tears flowing freely as I'm screaming, "No flags! No flags! SUPERBOWL!" Seems like many folks had that problem. Very high emotions, something I've never, ever seen.

We stayed in the Dome for what seemed like forever. We cried some more. Then, we danced our way out of the Dome, a brass band waiting for us outside of the Dome's doors. Another brass band greeted us on Poydras Street, with media copters hovering overhead, and the crowd is still all dancing together as we're moving along. We danced, hugged strangers, sang, and just enjoyed the chaos in general that night. It felt as though the city was celebrating the end of a war.. I've never seen so many euphoric people in one place at one time. I'll never forget it.

NFL Films' end of the game.. the interception, the overtime, the Kick:

(I still can't get through it without crying. It'll be a memory I think about on my deathbed.)

I don't know if it's the most I've ever felt, but as far as recent events go, I recognized what I felt to be an unhealthy amount of stress during the 2010 NCAA men's basketball championship game (Duke vs. Butler). I thought I had been taking things less seriously in recent years, but that game proved that for at least a single game scenario, I could still get just as worked up as ever. It defies all reason, really. Get so invested in a game played by a bunch of kids. Never again.*

*All bets are off if Duke gets to another championship game.

wimbledon 2009 (and 2008 but i missed half of that when it was live)

5–7, 7–6(8–6), 7–6(7–5), 3–6, 16–14

The match took 4 hours and 17 minutes to complete, and the fifth set alone lasted 95 minutes. luckily it ended with this

i was screaming my lungs out on match point.

other nominee:
-whenever germany loses yet again in the final stages of a big football event.

This is an excellent choice.

Too bad Roger won though.

Barcelona in the CL, Inter 2010, Chelsea 2012, Man United final in 2009, Arsenal final in 2006.

Every England match in the World Cup or Euros since 96.

Wimbledon 2008 final Nadal vs Federer, luckily Nadal won which was great.

UFC whenever Anderson Silva fights.

Every F1 race where Alonso is in the championship hunt.

I don't really get into sports and definitely don't get emotional, but I was definitely baffled at the last race of the 2008 Formula One season. I was really hoping for Massa to come out on top and when Glock let Hamilton and Vettel past it was like a shot in the heart.

Ah yes, 2008 final is definetly up there, I wanted Massa to win so much that it was heartbreak when Hamilton ended up winning it.

My own when I was playing competitively in highschool. Popular sporting events not really.

The same. I actually thought the OP was originally about that and what sport we personally did that was the worst.

As for watching sports. I think I got pretty nervous watching Tyson fight Douglas.

UFC. Cro-cop fights.

Wow man! Great story. Miss you in PoliGAF btw.

Most recently, the 2012 F1 Season finale at Brazil. Started when Vettel looked like he would retire at the first corner and then slowly subsided later on when I knew he had clinched the title before the race was over.

Any NY Giants game. They are bipolar. Who knows what team comes out and which how many manningfaces we will see.

More specifically when the Giants went against the undefeated Patriots in the Super Bowl (Super Bowl XLII ). We really did not want to be "the team that the patriots finally beat to complete their undefeated season." Luckily we had some magic happen on the field. Patriots got owned twice by the Giants. Merry Christmas fools.

Yep. Particularly that first Super Bowl against the Patriots. What a fucking anxiety attack.

Last years Champions League group stage game 6.

We (Olympiakos) beat Arsenal and were relying on Dortmund to at least tie against Marseille.

Dortmund was up 1 nil at the half. Second half, Dortmund opened up her whore legs and let the French violate them repeatedly, especially in the final minutes. Left us level on points but 3rd due to goal differential.

Football at its best and at its worst.

2002 NFC Championship game. When Ronde Barber ran that interception back to seal the game I was on my feet and running across the room with him.

Cardinals vs. Rangers World Series was crazy. Most exciting baseball series I've ever seen. In football I'd have to go with Rams vs. Titans Super Bowl.

All wrong answers, sorry guys.

Most stressfull sporting event in history of sports is Wimbledon finale with Goran Ivanisevic.

Nothing, nothing, nothing compares to that, nothing. I would never want to experience something similar, ever in my life.

North Melbourne vs. West Coast in the AFL Elimination Finals last season.
I'm a North supporter, we got beaten by 98 points! :( It was a very depressing day....

The first few minutes of the 2006 National Championship game. Was waiting for it to start and then realized my DVR had been like 15 minutes behind from me pausing the pregame.

Catch up and see that Ohio St. ran the kickoff back and was already swearing and throwing shit.

Then the rest of game happened.

Game 7 of the 2006 National League Championship Series. I really thought that 06 was the Mets year to win it all. And when Endy Chavez made that spectacular catch I thought they were going all the way. But when Carlos Beltran took a called strike 3 against Adam Wainwright to end the game, I was totally crushed. I was so upset I told my friends and family good night and went straight to bed.
