UK charts: DmC launch sales are just a third of Devil May Cry 4's

Lock-on if old

Launch week sales for DmC Devil May Cry were just a third of the amount that previous entry Devil May Cry 4 sold during its launch week in 2008.

That's despite DmC having an extra three days on sale - it launched last Tuesday, compared to Devil May Cry 4's Friday launch, the traditional day that new video games hit shop shelves in the UK.

DmC still made the top spot, however - the first time Capcom has gained pole position since the launch of Resident Evil 5, almost four years ago.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 stormed third, Far Cry 3 was fourth and Need for Speed: Most Wanted was fifth.

There was little change in the rest of the chart, and no other new entries. It was another week without any Wii U or Vita exclusives in the top 40.

Unsurprising. Slow month, genre isn't as popular(or at all), the franchise has been dormant/on life support for five years, and the last one wasn't all that well received nor was it some sort of megahit. Still made it to the top so I guess that is something.

I think this is so bad for us as gamers. I love the devil may cry series and i think DMC is a great game. Oozes with style. It's such a shame that this could be the end of DMC

A NT game that gets solid reviews but poor sales who knew

It a average game and not seen many people buying it around here shocked even got number 1 spot

I hope the series will go back to Japan instead of ending up like Silent Hill. Didn't even bother with Downpour and I used to be a rabid fanboy...

Don't call it Bomba just yet fellas, there's still PC sales, I feel that the PC sales will be rather high.

Before people celebrate just keep in mind how horrible the industry is over there. It's almost to the point where people shouldn't even bother releasing games there.

UK gaffers, what's happening with videogames sales in your country? Crisis? Piracy? Other occupations?

Because the PC gaming community has always been big on character actions games...WAT?

It's $10 cheaper on PC, will run at 60+ FPS and PC gaming is bigger than ever and will siphon plenty of sales away from consoles. The "PC Gaming community" is broader and bigger and less homogenous than it's ever been. I think the truth is somewhere in the middle.

Lack of WiiU version seems to be the cause of low sales...

I laughed.

Sad to see this bomba, haven't played it yet myself but the game was always stuck between a rock and a hard place, a game that doesn't appeal to the established base but one that really needed to get away from that to exist in the first place.

Eh number 1 means jack shit now where the UK gaming sales scene is concerned. Unless you're COD/FIFA/Assassin's Creed.

I'd like to see how this does in Japan/NA mostly.

I am not downplaying the PC market but I am absolutely expecting this game in particular to sell worse on PC than on the other platforms.

I don't see how this game is getting those high reviews. I borrowed it from a friend who was renting it and the game is nothing like a DMC game. It was rather lackluster and really boring. To be honest it is a horrible game.

I know DMC 4 gets a lot of criticism but it is a much, much better game than DmC. I'm glad I didn't plunk down the money for it.

Personally, I'd say:

-- Collapse of the "casual" market
-- Dedicated retail crisis
-- Growth of online retail
-- Double-dip (and soon to be triple-dip) recession and "austerity" measures
-- Growth of supermarkets as games retailers, pushing a narrower range of "big" titles

Woah woah woah. Let's not get too crazy. I still want my games damn it, and I ain't buying them used.

PC sales rarely count towards sales charts, because western countries usually buy PC games digitally now and those aren't tracked. So even if the game sells good on PC, we won't know the exact numbers.

Not to mention, this is the genre that is rather big on consoles and pretty niche on PC.

I would rather say that the hate machine towards the reboot is the main purpose. Even with positive reviews and the game ending up being pretty good, the bad word of mouth that has been going on since the game was first unveiled certainly impacted the sales the most.

Just to add, Dishonored and Far Cry were going at $30 during the Steam sale but were among the top sellers during that period.
This game has a chance at having high sale income from the PC/Steam side.

Sad stuff, seems to be a good game from what I've heard here and there.

Oh well, at least there's a chance they will take the series back to Japan now if other regions have similar results.

Curious if the low sales are in fact because its a reboot made by Team Ninja or because the Devil May Cry brand has lost steam over the years.
