Why do I see people mentioning that this game will be similar to Demon's/Dark Souls? What evidence is there to suggest this?
It's mainly from reading speculation in the articles. There was a notable comparison in the Polygon Article linked.

Honestly, it was so they'd all write stories on it. The amount of coverage Destiny had gotten today is substantial, and a lot of that is because they reached out to so many media outlets.
And they are going to be there; Joe Staten is giving a presentation about building their new world and I imagine the game will get some run there as well.
Not sure if this was posted, but I thought this Twitter exchange between Jonathan Blow and Bungie lead engineer Brian Sharp was really interesting:
I'm a little confused about what he (Bungie Guy) believes they revealed today.
So finally getting around to reading the Kotaku article and this without a doubt sounds awesome. It's ambitious as hell though. However if they can pull it off it will be amazing to see.
I kinda feel like it looks like more than a minor engine upgrade. The first picture you post with the guy in a suit looks like something from halo 4 imo. I mean just compare him to the brute model in your reach picture.
The short snippets of in game stuff we saw in the vidoc looked pretty impressive for current gen imo, much closer to halo 4 visuals than reach. And it'll be really impressive if they manage to keep the things that they did better than halo 4 ( textures, landscapes and number of enemies at a time )

I really dislike the notion that I could potentially be doing some interesting story mission, and then all of a sudden some idiot will get dumbed into my game and start charging through an area.
Let me play alone, at in MY playstyle and pace, if that is what I want to do.
The sniper that the one guy is holding even looks almost identical to the one from Halo. This guy looks straight out of Halo:

Art style wise everything else looks pretty unique and distinct though.

Would be nice if there was some dark Souls type invasion pvp. I love world pvp so much. I think i read you can't attack each other though.
Would be nice to have bounties carried out on player killers.(pipe dream)

Lol, didn't even notice before you said.
Remember that Bungie likes to model their weapons after previous games though, many weapons in Halo were almost directly from Marathon: Scoped pistol, the assault rifle, Rocket Launcher, Plasma Pistol (fusion pistol)...
I'm sure there will be an option to opt out of allowing people in your game.
You're literally not the only person saving the world anymore. This isn't the story of Master Chief or any one character.

Ponies
Huh, that's interesting. Maybe we'll see those in Destiny as well.Lol, didn't even notice before you said.

Sounds pretty ambitious. Has potential to be far bigger than Halo ever was.
Showing animated concept art as the main reveal content is pretty unprecedented for a launch of this stature.
Alright. I'm going to say it.
"ViDoc" is the dumbest fake word. It's like a hokey sci-fi term: "Dexter Nanofuchs plugged his zybernerve into the holonet. The usual lasersports and ViDocs were playing." Every time I see this awful word I want to call 911 to report a battery of language. Oh, it's a documentary? On video? Well stick me in a MJOLNIR suit and call me Sally, I couldn't have guessed.
These are some pretty vague parallels. I would say these instances are much more akin to an MMO rather than a Souls game. To think Destiny will be some kind of Soulsian-hybrid game it just setting yourself up for disappointment. Borderlands/Planetside seems like a more accurate comparison.here's the article, and some important bits.
"Even in story mode, you will encounter other players on their own adventures, inhabiting and affecting the same world," Hirshberg says.
Well, a moment is described where players have a random stranger save their buts, there's nothing more dark souls than that.
"After reaching Mars, the pair ventured to the Dust Palace, a public meeting place, before venturing into a Cabal exclusion zone guarded by a group of heavily armored foes colloquially known as Sandeaters. Outgunned, the duo encounter another player, a Hunter, on her own mission on Mars. They decide to join up."
It's pretty similar, but it has a wider scope, and is designed more around player convenience, etc.

Am I the only one who doesn't see a resemblance between the Destiny sniper and Halo's?could just be a placeholder built off of the halo model.
Am I the only one who doesn't see a resemblance between the Destiny sniper and Halo's?
There's only so many ways you can design a sniper until it stops looking like a sniper.
I think it looks good. All of the weapons have a neat aesthetic to them.Am I the only one who doesn't see a resemblance between the Destiny sniper and Halo's?

Yeah now that you mention it, that's probably the reason.i think its the boxy looking scope that reminds people of the halo snipes.
that said i dont mind it at all.
Sounds pretty ambitious. Has potential to be far bigger than Halo ever was. Bungie was smart to jump off that sinking ship.
How exactly is Halo a sinking ship?
Call me cynical, but this gen has taught me not to care about ambition or ideas, but execution. So many games had so much potential, but fell flat in the end, going to need a lot of convincing to buy this.
Alright. I'm going to say it.

Execution only goes so far, though. Without ambition and fresh ideas, we simply get the same games over and over with some, though minor, improvements.
I don't see planetside at all... PS is a massive army vs. army game of pushing on various, nodes, this is smaller PVE and PVP experience.
All these people saying looks like Halo will shut up when they're running around as a Space Warlock channelling sun-energy and casting it at enemies.

I don't think that would shut them up, in fact then they'd probably demand that it should be more like HaloAll these people saying looks like Halo will shut up when they're running around as a Space Warlock channelling sun-energy and casting it at enemies.
I think at this moment, Planetside is probably the closest thing we have to an accurate comparison for Destiny. Because Destiny is even less like a traditional MMO than it is Planetside.

I'm just hoping they don't just go the "fighter jet" route with player ships. The ships look really sweet so far, but hopefully they also go the "Millennium Falcon" route, too. I'd love to have my own little base in there. Maybe there's some form of home-base customization in "the tower".
I don't see planetside at all... PS is a massive army vs. army game of pushing on various, nodes, this is smaller PVE and PVP experience. In Borderlands, you find 4 people through a menu and jump into a game, and you don't get anyone else dropping in, or running into other player characters except those in your party.
This is much closer to the dark souls system where you have kind of limited, focused interaction with people. IE, the game isn't dumping everyone near you like a traditional MMO, or PS. Instead the game matchmakes people into your instance that you can choose to join up with, like how in DaS/DeS it chooses which signs to put down based on level and that you are in the physical location.
The technological description is much more similar also, there's no centralized server outside matchmaking, and your game is always connecting to others/ being connected to. I think
It seems like people are reaching for a comparison and coming up with something less apt to me.
Maybe there will be area control stuff with the factions, and such. That would fit into a more PS like framework, I guess we'll see what "Faction wars" is like.
I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing that it seems like Destiny is hard to explain. As a positive, that means it's doing something new, as a negative that means the central conceit may be too complicated.
