UK Charts: Aliens Colonial Marines takes top beating Dead Space 3

Oh, I was abouts to post PAL Charts, nevermind.

Anyway, it was always going to do well on name alone.

It's worth noting it did worse than AvP 2010, though.
Sega’s ‘Aliens: Colonial Marines’ (360/PS3/PC) debuts at No1 as the biggest new release of the year so far and is the second highest week 1 for an Alien franchise game, behind Sega’s own ‘Aliens vs Predator’ launched back in week 7, 2010 also on 360/PS3/PC.

Of course being in the UK that may just mean it sold 15 copies because everyone was too busy watching Chegger getting the boot on Dancing on Ice.

In huge news, a Vita game is in the top 40 by units chart :P

34 36 PAPER MARIO STICKER STAR 3DS NINTENDO NINTENDO

- 40 SKYLANDERS GIANTS XB360 SKYLANDERS ACTIVISION BLIZZARD

Sega’s Aliens vs Predator’ is the highest grossing Aliens title at around £14m lifetime in the UK – previous best in this franchise is Acclaim’s ‘Alien Trilogy’ from 1996 (£10m) which was a massive PS1 seller, but was also released on Sega’s Saturn and on PC. EA’s ‘Dead Space 3’ drops to No2 (-57%) and EA’s ‘FIFA 13’ drops one place to No3 (+39%) although sales increase 39% over last week, a phenomenon that affects many top-selling titles this week with the start of half term holidays boosting sales. Ubisoft’s ‘Assassin’s Creed III’ climbs 6 places to No6 (+50%) thanks to half term and some price promotion, whilst last week’s No6, Namco Bandai’s ‘Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch’ drops down to No25 (-59%). Warner re-enter at No29 thanks to ‘Super Scribblenauts’ on DS (+83%) which is currently amazing value at less than £5.

I don't like to see mediocrity rewarded, but that is the bane of being interested in video games.

To be fair, it probably still sold like shit, it doesn't take much to top the UK charts with no competition.

It's the name that sells. Sheeple who get this and stick it into their gaming machines will soon figure out that they've shelled out for a turd covered in mucus-like blood.

I'd love to see their reactions then.

Oh no, people are enjoying something that other people didn't!

This isn't about a difference in opinion; it's about people essentially buying a broken/half assed product. You'd have to be away from the internet for the past week to think this is a decent game.

It strikes me first and foremost as a signal of the UK market's weakness rather than a signal of Aliens:CM's strength.

And thus we learnt that video game sales are not a terribly worthwhile metric for a game's quality, whether overperforming or underperforming.

I'm a little amused at this after seeing people use the UK Charts as extra justification for their dislike of DmC or Dead Space 3, but I realise these are different matters and I'm being a bit misguided.

Still, perhaps some should take pause next time they think along the lines of "HA, X5 sold worse than X4! I told you it was bad!"

Sacrifices had to be made to get Ni No Kuni number 1.

Also DAMN Ni No Kuni dropped HARD. Low shipments or just just everyone who wanted it got it day 1?

Unfortunately, Eurogamer seems to paint a different picture (even if the UK market is weak, all previous releases were are probably equally affected - and therefore Aliens: CM still seems to have had a relatively successful launch):
It's the biggest release of the year so far, according to UK data cruncher GfK Chart-Track, which means it's bigger than Dead Space 3.

Their disgusting sham of a game should not be rewarded with this. Gearbox does not deserve even such a minor victory.

A pitiful disappointment.

Thank you based wub wub.

This game selling well (irrespective of the state of the UK charts), as much as it pains me to say so, is probably the only way we'll get another Aliens game. They could just go back in with a smaller, more focused development team, but this is video games we're talking about..

I'd be more interested in seeing the season pass attach rate.

SEGA + Aliens = Sales. Barely anyone reads reviews.

Awww yeah.

A lot of these sales will be due to pre orders, I am sure it will drop down the charts quickly over the next few weeks, once word of mouth about how poor it is gets out.

There is a big advertising campaign on British TV for this game, advert has been well edited to capture the feel of the films.
