Benchmark
So, as we had the Octa-Core (GT-I9500) variant of the Galaxy S4, we decided to do some benchmarks. We are just BLOWN away from the results we got. The Galaxy S4 crushed every other device, even the HTC One and the Sony XPERIA Z. We used Antutu and Quadrant as our benchmark tools. The device received a score of 27417 on Antutu and 12726 on Quadrant.

This is insanity.
Considering what they're doing on that octacore chip battery life will probably be pretty okay as well, but we need stats, stat!

I never realized the Nexus 10 was such a piece of junk.

What's with the benchmark obsession on the Android platform? Are these really relevant for anyone? On PCs you have gamers and serious productivity people driving this mentality. But this is a phone. What reason is there to care about theoretical performance stats?

Yeah. The new phones for 2013 are all going to be beasts. The biggest issue that the OEMs are going to start having in 2014 is that the devices will be SOOOOO complete that there will be a lot of concerns over growth because their won't be as much incentive to upgrade.

MKV files are still a bit choppy on my GS3, I always welcome more powaaaah

Battery life. Seriously.

I still don't understand why only some countries are getting octo-Core version.

LTE integration.

Yeah, moving forward we'll hit a point where things will mostly be about power efficiency and optimisations. Bigger batteries + more power efficient components = happy people around the globe.

Well... thanks to those charts, now I now that my just ordered Nexus 4 still holds up very well against the S4.

Well whichever company releases a SD800 device will win the power war this year. It scores ~33k in Antutu.

I know Sony just received their samples, I think Samsung have some in house as well, I guess for Note III LTE.

Also, should me mentioned in the OP that US, Can, UK, Ger, Fra, Sui and Jap are all confirmed to get the SD600 version, I9505. The Exynos version, I9500, will only come to markets with no LTE. I9505 will probably account for over 80% of shipments.

How's battery life compared to the snapdragon 600? I don't have a need for raw power, but it's amazing what Samsung is able to do with its phones.

My only problem with these graphs is that they show the One X, and not the One, so to the casual observer it looks like it's that huge of a margin since they say it blows the One away.. Still a stronger phone by a decent clip, but a little shitty of a display by this site. Guess you can't expect much more from a site dedicated to a specific hardware vendor though, if there's an HTC fanboy forum I expect them to leave out the S4 and just show the S3 chillin there.

The Snapdragon in the S4 should score more than the Exynos in these benchmarks to be fair

Amazing. If the battery life holds up, I'm going 3G Exynos 5 over 4G Snapdragon 600.

Why? What are you seeing thats so exciting?

Doubt it. My guess is that Exynos 5 might even be more battery efficient. It can use any 4 cores simultaneously, but it is a completely dynamic thing. It only uses 1 A15 core (or more) when it needs it. Otherwise it sticks to the A7. Unlike many suggested, it does not simply switch from 4 A15 cores to 4 A7 cores and back again, it can use each specifically. My guess is that this efficient way of working will net it better battery results, not worse.

You will have to import one. I9500 isn't going to be on sale in the UK.

I thought this information was inaccurate? And that the UK will now get both versions?

Maybe better when everything is turned off, give the thing something to think about and it'll suck juice like a trooper I reckon. Anyway, its the radios that like juice constantly. When the screens off these CPU's suck next to nothing for all of them.

Benchmarks are meh, especially when you consider my HTC One is not too far behind (8% or so( and the Snapdragon S4 is clocked even higher than the One by around 11-12%

Here is last years Galaxy S3 battery tests for comparison:

The S4 is better across the board.

For a phone in the same generation? Well yeah, thats a pretty nice gap.

Again, this is the Qualcomm s600 chip scoring this battery life. It's the same Qualcomm chip mentioned in the HTC One bench scores that people are getting 24800 in Antutu and 12k+ in Quadrant.

Let's keep this in mind.

Possibly offline from retailers rather than via networks in that case. Do Samsung have a significant retail presence like Apple or Sony? Then they might sell it through their own retail network. I know they have a concession in Westfield Stratford.

It'll still make a difference though. Web browsing, galleries etc. And that small bump is only in one benchmark. I fully expect it to pull of a sizeable lead compared to Krait 600 in others. Will wait to see battery comparisons, but my money is still on Exynos 5 being more energy efficient.

In any case, if the UK won't be getting it, I might import. Not sure yet.

The S4 Qualcomm is clocked at 1.9GHZ, whereas the One is 1.7.....

I reckon the Snapdragon one will be the one to have anyway, so we'll see.

I wasn't aware of this. I'm actually considering an S4 now. I wouldn't want another Exynos device since I know at some point I'll want to put CyanogenMod on there and Samsung are terrible at supporting the open source community when it comes to their own chips.

Man the power of ARM devices are growing incredibly... i think we are at the point that a today's phone is powerful as a desktop of 2005-2006 which if you ask me it's incredible

Its always great when the text makes lots of comparisons to the One and then the graph only includes the S4 smoking the One X.

have you never seen Quadrant results?

I'm personally already there with my iPhone 5. Only reason I will be upgrading this year is for better battery life (I expect to never have to worry about battery life again (note, I already get a few days worth of usage since my phone charges in my car)), and to give my old iPhone 5 to my parents, since they would never pay out for a 32GB iPhone/phone.

The one thing that could keep me upgrading is if we see software shift from consumption software to creation software, but frankly, I just don't see that happening.
