Isn't it crazy that yesterday a big portion of the world was exposed to Ghibli?
If you didn't knew the studio existed, you learned something new yesterday.

I think Hayao Miyazaki is on suicide watch right now. Just listen to he's comments and thoughts on AI art from 8 years ago.

it does feel a little wrong in the sense that Miyazaki san spent his life developing a world renowned style and now it's getting aped to death.

I mean we're all having a good laugh at these but this is absolutely a fair point.

It's less about Ghibli and more about virality. Sometimes its nonsensical (morning routine) other times is appreciation over a certain artwork. I'm positive a lot of people will eventually get to discover ghilbi movies because of what happened yesterday.

I think a lot of smart people think this is the death of culture and I have to agree with them.

Stop using gen ai slop guys. It's so shit and its awful for the environment. Like...what are we fucking doing here?

I think it's a testament to how strong the art style is and how synonymous it's become with Studio Ghibli. I don't think it devalues their work, but I can imagine it feels a bit awful from an artist's perspective to see your signature style replicated so effortlessly. That said, this technology is amazing, and I hope it continues to develop.

"You're generating images a bit too quickly, so there's a short rate limit in place. I can't generate a new image right now, but you can try again in about a minute. Once you're ready, feel free to resend your request and I'll pick it up from there!"

I'm having too much fun!

But this is exactly what has happened to all great art, even before it was technically possible to mechanically reproduce it. If you produce visual crack and people go crazy for it, that is what happens.

Culture cannot die as i understand it, as it is simply the sum of local customs that change all the time, only moving parts. What is culture in your eyes, and how can it die (does it also get born then at some point?)?

It's actually amazing in terms of resource efficiency, because the alternative would be us all having our own individual super computers calculating all this shit. Instead we are sharing the same cloud resources, which makes this super "environment friendly" or whatever some might call that.

I disagree, I think this is an explosion of creativity. Take games. If you look through any State of Play, Xbox Direct or Nintendo Direct, almost everything looks the same, and bland. Fantasy settings, scifi settings - the same. It's because creating visual worlds used to be expensive, and hard to produce for testing, so companies tried to stay conservative.

Now we can explore wildly more creative game settings really quickly, creating screenshots, short videos and even trailers to gauge interest. Things that differ from the norm will stand out, and get noticed. The designed scenarios will have the depth and consideration in minutes that would have required expensive reference acquisition trips in the past.

Check out the Call of Duty scenario I created in five minutes on page 1 or 2. It's wildly accurate to the reality on our island, a breathe of fresh air after the samey environments of the last decade, and I just put half a thought and mere minutes to it. When real professionals do that, we will have a gaming creativity explosion.

More performative humanitarian whining, gets tiresome to see this crap argument. Where have you been the last 250,000 years?

FIRE. Would buy!

Did you feed ChatGPT the source image? Or was this purely written prompt?

near near
I've been getting better results either uploading a source image and prompting the changes or uploading an image for reference as opposed to mentioning characters or artist names.

It's an amazing image editor -- really the best on the market by a mile at taking an existing image and re-imagining, or making localized edits, clothing change, etc.

Here's an input image:

I was not aware of how massively viral the ghiblification trend went. kind of sensory overload, I feel some kind of disconnect going on.

New image generation model just dropped, available for Free and Plus ChatGPT users. Handles text better and significantly improved overall fidelity and adherence to prompts.

Let's do a new AI gaming art thread. Come up with ideas, choose your favorite characters, etc. You can generally bypass copyright by using character names without explicitly stating the IP, if the model gives you trouble about that. Possible to do crossover worlds, radically different art styles, and even sequential comic art with dialogue. Just prompt away.

Remember, it helps to be descriptive.

Even, George Washington has to rest at the bonfire.

Just an old picture of Reggie and Miyamoto playing video games as kids.

A few remakes..

A bit shite, still working it all out. The missus keeps wanting me to Ghibli everything in between :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Man, this thing is awsome, Cheers EviLore EviLore

I would never have given it a go if I didn't see this thread.

I mean it was to be expected, but yeh looks like this will be limited soon so enjoy it while it lasts.

It seems they are now strongly restricting use of copyright material already, I was trying to generate some similar images as yesterday like game covers and it was refusing almost all of them. Anything Nintendo gets heavily restricted.
