Genshin Impact |OT| 5.0 (Natlan) - Everything Changed When the Fire Nation Arrived

Holy shit they put Chevreuse on the 5.5 banners even though she just had a rerun.

Seems like they heard me. Rewards are being added for getting the stars in the Theater.

Damn that's the best 4* lineup in ages. Not a single Bennett or Noelle to be found. Hope I get lucky on Veressa. I'm not gonna go for weapon or constellations, but I definitely want to snag a copy for the fun of it.

Did some quick pulls before going to bed. Won the 50/50 for Varesa, got C1 Iansan and C6 Chevreuse. Let's not mention the C28 Gaming. I want to try for C2 Iansan at least, but I'm not sure how much pity I have built up by now and I don't really want to risk getting a 5-star constellation I don't want. I'll wait until the wish history is updated.

I wish you all good luck on any pulls you might do.

Damn, you and I are like twins. I had the same outcome. 1 Gaming, 2 Iansan, 2 constellations on Chev to get her to C6, won the 50/50 clean in and out. Iansan's C2 sounds pretty important, so I'll probably toss some pulls on Cloud Retainer's banner because I eventually want her C6 anyways. I am going to wait for beta leaks though to see if that chef lady is worthwhile before deciding.

I like that they added exit options on PC, and it seems that the whole game got some sort of atmospheric lighting upgrade. I didn't play much, but there was all sorts of volumetric fog and weather effects in places I hadn't previously noticed it. Then again, could be because I was on a trip playing the game on my phone for the last week and I forgot how nice it looks on a 65" OLED.

*edit*

I can't stop laughing at Iansan's skill run. It's so damn goofy looking and I love it. Both she and Varessa are a blast to just run around Natlan with. They both got hit with new ascension materials tied to their new region, so I won't be using them in combat for quite a while, but they're both oozing unique character, something I'm really happy to see in this game where so much is recycled.

Also, now that Varessa is out, what are the chances HoYo goes back and un-nerf's Rosaria? I know they won't, but come on now HoYo.

Used my 61 wishes and came away with 1 Iansan, 1 Chevreuse (C6), 1 Ororon (C2), 5 Gaming (C8).

Her supposed kit has leaked already.
She is so far said to be like a Cryo Chevreuse as long as the party is composed of Cryo and Hydro.
Skill does off-field coordinated Cryo attacks.
Burst does aoe Cryo and heals the party.
It's early yet but all signs point to her being Skirk best teammate along with Furina.

I'm surprised they're releasing the chef first. Supposedly she's a dedicated support for freeze and that reaction is not exactly very popular right now. Skirk could change that, but pulling for possible future synergies isn't very appealing. I expected Skirk to release before.

I did some more pulls on the banner to try and get one more Iansan copy, but I'm 67 wishes in now... Getting real dangerous to keep pulling. Of course the game shafts me on the 4-star I want the most, but I guess I can't complain too much with these results.

Also, here's a new event for some primos: Experience a "tranquil" day with Varesa to obtain Primogems and other rewards! You have to perform some in-game stuff to trigger all the rewards.

Got Dehya's echo trail from the imaginarium. That was by far my easiest trial, no doubt due to the fact that I put way too much time and effort into building Dehya. I beat it with 25 seconds to spare without doing any particular rotation or cooldown management, just facetanked the bird and smacked it to death.

It's another Xilonen -> Mavuika situation. But yea I find it hard to believe that Freeze can ever be good in fights that actually matter. Sure it's great vs. mobs of small monsters that can actually be frozen, but every other team comp is also good in that situation. Hope this means they're reworking Freeze/Shatter from the ground up, but in reality it'll just be some trait they give Skirk most likely.

I still wish she was our first Void/Abyss element character instead of another Cryo.

As for the chef girl, I like her design but I think I will skip so I can guarantee a few cons on Skirk. It's not exactly like we have no other options for Cryo application and heals, at any rate.

Escoffer is her name I guess, and here's her 3D render:

Did about 60 pulls, lost the 50/50 to mona, traded in some glitter for 3 more pulls, got varessa on the third pull; luck enough I guess.
Though I'm not even sure why I pulled lol, I use clorinde for my electro damage, though I guess varessa would work better with mavuika, because of the nightsoul activation buffs?
Dunno, guess I was waiting for so long for iansan that I had to at least try to get at least one copy of her, even if I'm probably not gonna use her either; wound up with C4 chevruese and C1 iansan lol.

I've only used her a little bit, but I found Varesa to be more satisfying to play than Clorinde.

Early animations for the chef, whose name I still haven't remembered:

I really like those normal attacks where she thrusts the spear with her tail, but she won't likely use those often.

Yea, I like her design but that kit is just an expensive off-fielder like Citlali. I want to see some proof that future Freeze is viable before I invest anything into it.

Anyways, there is just a shitload of EN VA drama going on right now. I went from sympathetic to their cause to a complete "fuck 'em and replace them" viewpoint. Kinich got a new VA because the old one was non-union but being one of those pricks that was striking anyways, so they recast him. Now a bunch of other EN VAs including Paimon's VA (who is also not striking ironically but gets a pass somehow) are badgering the new guy for taking the role. I would like voiced characters again in EN in the game before the game ends, so they can now kiss my ass. Replace 'em all.

I accidentally went with JPN voices when I started this game and when I checked some youtubers playing this game I was actually shocked with the EN voices and decided to stay with Japanese. I remember Klee and Razor were among those having abysmal performances. Paimon is also awful imo and probably the main reason I would never be able to switch to English. The voice actress sounds way too forced and whenever I hear her, it completely takes away the immersion. I dont hear a character, I hear a grown woman trying to do a voice.

The Candace EN voice wrting towards the new Kinich actor on bsky "Have fun with Genshin! You'll never work on anything else lmfao" has to be some of the most unprofessional behaviour I have ever witnessed. Maybe I am wrong, but I have the feeling you'd never see this type of behaviour among the korean/japanese/chinese?

Had to look into some of the VA stuff. Seems real complicated. They don't just want protection from AI, but also for the game to be voiced by union members only, threatening the jobs of everyone else. I'm happy to stick with the Japanese dub, and I think I'd sooner go for Chinese or Korean than EN at this point. What a shitshow.

I just noticed they added those last Fontaine artifact sets to the strongbox. It was rumored before but they didn't confirm it in the stream or dev diary. So if you want to complete your Navia or Arle, this is your chance.

Damn they're making you do a world quest in the game to claim a 20 primogem web event reward now. Inflation hits hard everywhere.
I didn't notice that you get 5 of the required boss drops from this web event too, so I wasted some resin... Oh well.

Did complete the tribal quest for Varesa and thought it was pretty good. Gotta say I expected something entirely different based on the promotional material though. With those material rewards, she's fully leveled and yeah, she performs well in Abyss and elsewhere. I find her gameplay quite fun.

Also did a couple more pulls to see if I could squeeze out C2 Iansan, but no such luck. I'm at 71 pity now, and I feel like I've done everything I could to get her without ruining my savings.

Been seeing a lot of praise for Escoffier, but I'm really not feeling her. Instead of buffing freeze normally, they introduce a unit to 'fix' the reaction by giving huge damage buffs. I feel similarly about Chevy, but at least she is a more easily attainable 4-star. Locking such functionality behind a limited 5-star just feels sleazy. And Escoffier's ability and burst are so boring, she doesn't feel like a 5-star. To make things worse, she's meant to go on Furina teams. I'd rather not return to the health drain mechanic if I can help it. So not too appealing IMO and sets a bad trend for future characters. She looks pretty enough and she buffs Shenhe, and I'm sure she'll be a powerful companion for Skirk, but I'm not excited for this one.

Yea I was thinking about her in relation to my Shenhe team. Since I'm still trying to make Shenhe DPS work (lol). Problem is, I need fucking Chongus to imbue Cryo, so there's not really any room for Escoffier. I'm currently running Shenhe/Chongus/Furina/Cloud Retainer. It does well enough for overworld and domains, but it's nowhere near a competitive type team for any challenge event or abyss or anything. If Escoffier can replace Cloud retainer, that might be a workable solution. I wonder if her healing is the level it would need to be to keep up with Furina drain though. Also CR enables Swirl and plunge Shenhe, which is the only way I've been able to break 30k~ hits with her.

I guess I'll keep an open mind and watch how her beta goes, we'll see.

I'm holding any further pulls until I decide about Esco. It'd be real nice if her C2 or something did Cryo imbue without a ground circle to piss around with. That'd be my dream.

I love to see the Shenhe dedication. There's not many characters that share infusion in the first place... I wonder if they'd make a second one who can infuse Cryo like Chongyun. Could Escoffier + Candace work for Hydro infusion on Shenhe? Just spitballing. I believe her healing is sufficient to offset Furina's drain, but I also find it a bit sad to replace CR in that team purely for thematic reasons.

Since I have so much pity built up, I'll probably throw a couple wishes on Escoffier's banner and leave it up to fate. If Skirk releases in 5.7 we'd probably have enough information from leaks to decide whether her support is necessary as well.

Hydro infusion might work for the team, but that shits on all of Shenhe's artifacts/personal damage and would end up relegating me to build her as off-field damage/buffing only, which leads me back to square one. I think we're well past the time now where HoYo can be more liberal with team comps. There's no reason we can't have a Chongus+1 type 5* or something.

Imbue is an interesting mechanic that was kinda dropped in a half-assed state by HoYo. Not every element has an external imbue, and 2 of the 3 that do are classic Circle Impact™. There's very few useful team comps that rely on external imbue, but it doesn't have to be that way. Like if Escoffier could do circle-less imbue, that opens up some interesting team comps. Then again, they seem to be focusing on using the teams THEY want you to use lately, without any consideration on flexibility of the characters, so I won't hold my breath that something like that will ever exist.

Yea that's a lot of time between now and then, there's time to decide.

Shenhe/Furina/Escoffier/Chongus would probably work. Remains to be seen if the Escoffier buff is big enough to outdamage plunge though.

Got Varesa, 3 or 4 more copies of Chevy, 1 more Gaming, a Stringless, a Rainslasher, and my Iansan remains at C0.
They should have a fate point system for 4 stars even if it's a 3 point system where after failing to get your chosen one 3 times they become guaranteed.
Also why the fuck is there a 50/50 even for the 4 stars. Come on Hoyo, this bullshit is causing me "excessive anxiety".

Possible Skirk kit leak. Guess we'll see. Doesn't really sound like a game-changing kit, but that will depend on the numbers I guess. I was really expecting more back when she was originally revealed in Natlan, to be honest.

No way that's real, it's just a copy paste of Alhaitham.

Yea it does sorta sound like that, with "freeze" added in here and there. Who knows.

Monthly reminder - Get your Imaginarium runs in before the end of the month. This one's gonna be a bit dicey for me, Electro/Hydro/Cryo. At least Navia is a stand-in.

I underestimated verasa's speed, she's quite fast in the overworld, especially with lost prayer; I think only yelan is still faster.
Overworld power creep is real. Running around with Iansan and Varesa, leaping over cliffs and dashing over water, switching between them is super convenient.

By the way, they apparently updated that moon web event. Haven't been able to check it out yet.

Edit: They're teasing the story setting for Nod-krai as well as its characters, it seems. There's gonna be fairies and dwarves apparently, and they're talking about Varka's expedition and the Hexenzirkel. Also all the harbingers are gathered there. Looks like Nod-krai is based on Poland.

Oh man patch 5.5 is a banger. It's all around excellent, the new characters, new areas, the music, the quests, and the event are all pretty damn good.
Exploring the new areas with Varesa, Iansan, and Mavuika on team is pretty fun. And the visuals! They just get better and better the further in you go.

Traversal with Varesa and Iansan is great, I think I actually prefer Iansan's traversal, the speed boost on her dash is really satisfying, if only it didn't drain your nightsoul so fast. One annoying thing about Varesa though is when you swap into her during combat and the nightsoul transmission causes her to go flying away from enemies.

I haven't even started playing Xenoblade Chronicles X: DE cause I been glued to the Genshin update.

I love watching both Varesa and Iansan's run. But Iansan with those tiny legs chugging makes me laugh every time. I also am really bad at timing jumps with Varesa while she's charging.

In other news, my girl's still got it:
3vTHbmh.jpeg

And that was without any superconduct imaginarium buffs.

This one ended up not being quite as hard as I thought it would be. Missed a few stars in floor 8 and 9, but I just wanted in and out this time.

Still haven't dug into any of the new patch other than opening teleports and farming ascension materials for Varesa and Iansan, but yea the exterior volcano area is pretty. Love that there is some danger in the overworld for a change too. We haven't had that since Inazuma.

Does anyone know how good the chances are of a Raiden Shogun rerun in the coming months? Wasn't playing when her banner was last rerun, unfortunately :lollipop_pensive:

That 3rd Varesa quest was... Something else...

Youtubers got it right years ago though.

Of course Tighnari had to be in a quest about mushrooms. He's going to be on his 3rd voice actor it seems like since he was silent during the quest.

Just got a early 5 star trying for Iansan cons aaaaand it's Mizuki. Why did they bother with this dogshit character.
I think I'm done, at least I have a guarantee for Escoffier now.

Well, Mizuki has the fastest and furthest "flying" outside of Natlan, I believe, so there's that.

I managed to get my C2 Iansan, so I'm done with these banners for now. I really want more Cloud Retainer constellations, but the upcoming banner schedule looks brutal. They need to release some male 5*s so I can save up a patch or two. It's been a real barrage of characters I like since Natlan started.

So I put Varesa on a team with Xianyun and Kazuha for the anemo resonance + lowered stamina consumption while sprinting, and Dehya for daytime movement speed and holy shit.

So apparently Escoffier has a skill that builds up over time and.... shits out a random meal, up to 7 times per week.

ghadLRn.png

I'll be honest, I love weird shit like this. Hope they do it more.

I'm still way behind with the main story, but I thought, what the heck, and went ahead and finished that new Natlan story event because I wanted the primos and especially that crown upgrade material.

Also, with all the Switch 2 talk this week, I remember when HoYo was planning to release the game for the OG Switch, but they never actually did (I presume due to porting difficulties because the game was already running pretty ass on base PS4).

Now I wonder if they have plans to release a Switch 2 version of Genshin this year. 🤔

Forget the switch, man.

Join me on mobile.

I haven't tried it yet, but it FINALLY supports controller on Android as of this patch. Figures, the week after I got back from my trip.
I'm not bothering with the controller.

Controller feels clunky on ps5.

No icon wheels on mobile. Tap the character to switch.
