Definitely. Nintendo are known cash hoarders. In 2023 they had $9 billion in cash, and they also have zero debt.
I'd guess their reserve might be even bigger now as they were crowned the richest company in all of Japan earlier this year.

7m seems a lot but I don't know when they'll restock.
Price will be the deciding factor. Of course, launch games as well. Quite a few people will upgrade if their BC solution results in a better looking/performing game.
A pokemon release and a new mario would do wonders. Metroid will increase launch hype.

The PS5 initial launch was 3.4 million units, and it's was ridiculously hard to find. So 7 million seems low, honestly.
