In all seriousness... I miss his exclamations on TV. He almost had me on those Hercules Hooks.

Still the best to ever do it.

If he were still alive, the economy would have been fixed already. Yes, he pushed that many sales...

RIP.

This is going to sound disrespectful so I'm not going to bother softening the blow by prefacing this with "I don't want to be disrespectful..." but why does anyone care about this guy? He was a phony and a corporate shill who's sole goal in life was to sell you useless crap you don't need. Am I missing something here?

I don't want to get banned over Billy God damned Mays but someone has to explain the underserved reverence this guy gets.

Yeah I got that impression of him when I watched some show about him and the other pitchpeople who are looking for shit to sell that can make them rich.

Your logic applies to pretty much all salesmen, here.

But Billy Mays in particular had a natural charisma about him that seemed warm and inviting. As a salesman, he had "it." The way he pitched products was funny, but serious at the same time, and he was pretty damn good at it.

That's kind of the point. There was nothing special about Billy Mays, but I guess he was a better phony than most if you couldn't see through his act.

Why is he wearing two different shirts in the exact same picture...? Seems like such a pointless thing to edit. :lol

Sadly that means this is around I first heard of him. I was catching up on some past Conan episodes I had not watched at the time and he was there with another infomercial guy. First time I ever saw him.
