Ask me about my wife's perfect butthole
Zendaya was like 25 when that recent No Way Home thing came out (EDIT: and I can't believe I had to check Spider Man nonsense on Wikipedia, but yeah she's apparently been in 3 of those movies and was in her 20s even in the first one, what are you smoking). I didn't watch it because Disney Marvel is absolute garbage, but it was on in our house and I certainly added the horrific Mary Jane casting to the top of the list of why Disney ruins franchises.
I said “character”.

The movies are about High Schoolers, honestly probably supposed to be under 16 in the first one.

But this ugly girl was put in to replace roles that were iconic like Mary Jane, and whose appearances were totally at odds with her in every way.

It's not like she's in some secondary films where her look might belong, but she's been spliced into properties that had very pretty women before, ruining characters and roles -- which also comes down to her extremely poor "i just frown and look insufferable" acting. I do find all of that annoying, and that it's a generally good thing for men to respond by continued joking & ridiculing about her smurf face 🍺

It's not like MJ Watson has a history of absolute smoke show casting choices until Zendaya. Kirsten Dunst wasn't exactly a sex symbol. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and everything, but I personally find Zendaya more attractive than her predecessor (although her face will probably start to look really gaunt very soon if she doesn't put on some weight).

As far as having the body of a 12 year, well yeah - that's what casting choices skew for when you're trying to find adults to play high schoolers. Why do you think all of the Peter Parkers who started off in high school were played by actors who were 5 feet tall?

let's get back to the thread purpose...

AI making attractive things, and not the absolutely trash quality of actual pop culture and casting in 2024

Rich (BB code):

People are going for AI largely because mainstream productions have lost all connection to real tastes and inserted agendas. The hope is that we won't even talk about Disney one day because their control over franchises will be stolen back by AI breaking down all IP ownership, which will actually be good for human creativity and democracy.

No one shall be brought before our LORD David Bowie without the true and secret knowledge of the Photoshop. For in that time, so shall He appear.
We’ve gotta be only 3-5 years away from someone remaking the entirety of seasons 7 and 8 of Game of Thrones, and that’s an exciting prospect.

The goal -- and I'm being totally serious -- is to push this tech to the point where it destroys corporate control over IP altogether, so that anyone can make a better series with a few GPUs + time + creativity.

The current rulers over the funding for TV/movies have simply ruined so many properties that this is the only reasonable future, one in which their business model is destroyed.

And I think the models will get there.

That’ll only make an impact for a short while. At some point, we’ll have enough global compute and AI efficiency to generate real-time content per person, and it’ll be based on individual algorithmic preference. And this will still be owned and run by corporate entities since they’ll have the money and scale to offer it.

10-15 years from now, we’ll have some AI version of “Netflix” that essentially generates our personal “perfect content” for us. The same thing will eventually happen for video games too. And, while I’m a champion of real art, I just don’t think humanity will be able to resist their perfectly created content.

In a lot of ways, we’re currently in the “golden era” of AI, where a lot of the creativity and output is driven by individuals. But at some point, it won’t be like that.

That’s my guess, at least.

I don't know about that -- so far, the community of AI hobbyists has been simply incredible, taking image models (and other models) and building impressive tooling that has often beat the latest "official" research, and optimizing all of it to run on consumer GPUs.

On top of that, there are newer companies like FAL that hyper-optimize AI on the cloud with zero content limitations and a heavy appeal to make it your personal playground without limitation. These startups -- because they aren't limited by "safety" straightjackets of Google etc -- have gained tremendously.

I don't think the corporate powers will contain AI. Right now, you can run free, open-source models that rival the leading private ones in every area (image, video, language, etc) and if you don't have a strong enough GPU, you can rent private cloud compute to run it on securely. That will continue. They won't be able to contain AI as they have other tech.

I also think that creator-driven content will continue to flourish. Individualized, yes, but also creator driven -- because people want to step into someone else's world, be surprised and amazed at what they find, etc.

These are all really good points. And to riff off of your last point, I think the social aspects of content will likely continue to be important in a significant way. It’s just really hard to predict what that’ll look like.

Yeah, honestly, I genuinely just don’t know what’ll happen. This is like someone trying to predict the exact ramifications of “inventing the internet” or something. It’s really wild to think about.

lol I spotted the butt shot at 4:15 added for possible thumbnail bait... and then checked the timeline scrub to verify it's the most replayed 5 seconds

music on these is also AI gen, although I guess the channel person writes the lyrics, which aren't great

decent showcase of tech and aesthetics though
