American Horror Story: Cult |OT| Sarah Paulson Suffers In This One, It Must Be Good

Like, I knew they were gonna have her "shoot" someone, but i was hoping the gun would actually have blanks since, ya know, it's probably not a good idea to give her a loaded gun.

Her character is giving me anxiety watching this but I'm gonna say that's a testament to her acting skills.

I'm excited to see what happens next week.

Cheyenne is definitely in on it.

Or he's gonna dress as a clown as a part of aggressive therapy and get killed for it.

Not feeling this so far and I've actually enjoyed every season. Something needs to take this off the rails and quick! I enjoy crazy AHS.

But I'm fairly optimistic things will improve... I hope...

Hey, could the strange, conservative couple be involved with the Jokerz? I have no idea.

I think everyone's in on it in some form or another. I think they're all single components of the same cult using current events (Trump election, clown epidemic, terrorism threats, etc) to carry out their mission, alluded to with the hive; they're all different drones carrying out specialized tasks for a single goal.

Sarah Paulson is such a good actress and I like Ally but damn is she stupid lol. I feel so anxious just watching her make so many mistakes.

I hope we learn more about Winter in the next episode.

I like it more than last season so far but I hope Sarah Paulson isn't gonna be a sobbing mess the entire time. The creepy-ass clowns continue to be great.

When did Billy Eichner get hot tho. Suddenly I want scenes between him and Detective Colton. Long scenes filled with intense action and meaty character development.

What if she ends up getting committed to an asylum by her wife (again), but this time for an actual reason?

I really hope the twist is it turns out Ally is actually just insane and so is the kid(being the biological son), and the real "horror story" is the shit Kai and stuff are doing. Like I feel the show runners want all these insane theories running out there so they can hit the twist with a grounded explanation. The mentally ill person not taking her meds is mentally ill.

I'm losing interest in this series. I wasn't fan of last season and this isn't doing anything for me. It looks forced and too predictable. And she's been crying for three seasons now?
Yeah there are only so many seasons you can watch Sarah Paulson running around screaming and crying. It got really grating last season with her and they are doing the exact same thing this season.

Winter is my favorite character. I loved her complete disregard and care for Ally and Ozzy's craziness. "It's not always about you", walks out the door. Ally is just an embarrassing mess to watch. Also the neighbors are so obviously the clowns, it's not even funny. It was obvious the moment I saw them that they were the clowns. Blonde woman is the only female clown and the gay clown is the one you see doing anal and other sexual things. The neighbors cut the power and then told Ally that they were under a terrorist attack.

How the fuck can they afford that house when they had to take out a second mortgage just to pay for a second freezer full of meat for their restaurant?

So, Winter's objective is to corrupt Oz into joining Kai's group.

Why though? He's just a kid. What use is he to them?

What I don't get is, if this is all part of some grand plan, why are they specifically targeting Ally? She's just an upper-middle class restaurant owner. Say she's scared into joining Kai's cult. Then what? Or if their goal is to send her to prison or an asylum, leaving Ivy with custody of Ozzy, then...? Seems like everyone is going through an awful lot of trouble to recruit/mess with this random woman.

When every other season of the show is filled with batshit over the top horror movie cliches, it's tough to be engaged by material this pedestrian.

I like the themes (cults of personality, how fear can warp us into irrational/hateful people, etc), but so far it's the least creepy/scary/disturbing season by far.

This is exactly why I think her sanity is playing into it. Rather targeting her these events are happening almost unrelated to her but her paranoia is making it seem like everyone is after her.

This is my first season watching American Horror Story, but I question just how much patience I'm going to have for the premise here or the execution.

Couldn't work out if that was just a turn of phrase or if she was being serious
either way, can't imagine business being good if the town knew somebody had been hung on a meat hook in your cold store

How the heck is that " babysitter " still working? She's not only extremely incompetent in her own job but also nonchalant, very macabre and doesn't really fit the criteria for such a job after her careless attitude and actions

That didn't strike me as odd. They needed to get a lot of money ASAP, but they only have assets (the house and business), not cash.

I got the impression that the restaurant is a relatively new business, so they're probably in the red at the moment.

The only thing that makes sense is if Ivy is working with Kai and Winter. (Though, that doesn't explain why Ally hasn't suggested firing her either...)

She sounded serious to me, but she may have said it figuratively.

That could be it...!

OMG, Billy is in this? Has Ryan Murby been watching Difficult People? This can't be a coincidence.

Damn, the being insane thing seems plausible if only how incompetent Ally has to be to let these groups of people repeatedly get into her house multiple times a night. Especially if this is supposed to be "grounded" unless it's grounded in the sense like A Law Abiding Citizen was and the clowns have a tunnel from her house to the one across the street and the icecream truck is just for show lmao.

If either Ivy or Winter are in on it then they probably have a key.

Oh my, this must be the worst season yet. It's the first time I actively skipped entire scenes because of how boring, dull or slow it was becoming. Billie Lourd's character is awful, I'm skipping every scene she's in. I don't know how much longer I'll keep watching if I just spend 20 minutes watching a 40-minutes episode series.

Jeeeeez

The last episode bored me, but he was the best part of it.

I think I'll give it one more go, either that or the completionist in me will finish it.

Billie Lourd has been the best part for me.

They are a little nail on head with all the Trump/alt-right stuff but I preferred the second episode to the first. I got a Burbs vibe from a couple of scenes. I wish they would lean into that a bit more but it doesn't look like they will be doing so.

Can you really say you're "watching" a show if you're skipping entire scenes? Just give it up, lol.

Start with season 1 or 2. Maybe 5 if the setting seems appealing to you. Those are the best seasons.

I started with 3 and loved it, FYI. It has a disjointed plot but the characters are hilariously over the top. Super entertaining season.

That's my thought as well. You can't give a quality opinion of you can't be bothered to watch the entire thing. If you're not going to be bothered to watch it than just use your time elsewhere. There are better shows out there.

Like, I knew they were gonna have her "shoot" someone, but i was hoping the gun would actually have blanks since, ya know, it's probably not a good idea to give her a loaded gun.

Their neighbor who's clearly in on the whole thing in some capacity, or at the very least are insane themselves, gave her the gun. Specifically for self defense. She lied to her wife, who doesn't know she has it.

The ending of episode 2 was telegraphed from a mile away too.

Now their relationship will be even further down the shitter. She will have lited to her wife regarding the gun and there will be nothing for her to back up her claim again.

Winter is an interesting character arc, but her bailing at the end makes it suspect that she would ever be welcomed back in real life. The whole seduction thing at the end was stupid too.

One has to suspend disbelief in horror often. My biggest issue with last season, was that the second half of the season was the most unbelievable shit ever. Nobody would ever go back to that house (last season) for any amount of money or for any reason. Relationship be damned. I hope this season doesn't expect me to forgive such stupidity again.

My favorite part of this season so far is the clown with 4 faces. Legit creepy concept.

The show has always been so OTT and hammy every season has been a hatewatch for me.

Except this one. They're actually building stakes and dynamics in a clever way. The ensemble of potential villains and manipulation feels stifling. The message and context feels perfect and intense. It even has the unreliable narrator touches of most great horror works.

Really impressed. Helps that the editing and cinematography has really calmed down - far fewer jump cuts, more lingers and trackings, beautiful lighting.

The political stuff seems a bit OTT but i love that they're playing Kai as the calm rational one and the lefty protagonist as the unhinged potential schizophrenic.

Episode was great, things are moving at a nice pace which is always good. I'm interested in seeing where they take this though. Looks like they are going to end with Paulson going full alt-right at the end but that seems too obvious. I'm curious to see what the twist is.

Also it pains me to see so many people talking shit on Roanoke (season 6) in this thread. It is right up there with Asylum as GOAT American Horror Story. :/

I feel like a huge hypocrit saying this because I HATE IT when people criticise something by saying "there's no plot", but..

This really has no plot. It's boring me senseless so far. Every character seems really uninteresting or irritating. A real shame that AHS has come to this :(

The wife and I are kinda confused as of the second episode.

Confused if we're enjoying what we're watching. I appreciate the on-the-nose aspect of the story, but the horror elements are pissing me off. Definitely despise Billie Lourd and Evan Peters' characters, which really makes this a tough watch so far. Actually I think we hate everybody on this season, and it's gonna be even worse if the next episode doesn't rock our worlds.

We did quit Hotel halfway through the season, picking it up later. Slogged through Roanoke and enjoyed the spectacle. Freak Show had the actors I loved and that's it.

Shit ain't as captivating as Murder House, Asylum and Coven. Hope this doesn't turn into a "hate-watch" situation for me, like some others have described.
