Analogue’s 4K Nintendo 64 launches next year for $249 (Pre-orders open October 21st)

Analogue are horrible at CS. They do make great hardware though. Still not acceptable.

I've ordered three things from them and each time they managed to send me the wrong colour/version of it, it's pretty incredible, each time they blamed the shipping partner, yet their shipping prices form the US to EUR is way higher than most other things I import.

The hardware itself is great, really well put together boutique stuff and kevtris does a great job on the cores, but on a business level it's a bit of a crapshoot, you never know when you'll actually get it, even when you get it it may not be the version you ordered, and if you don't stay up until 6AM you won't even get a chance to buy it, but if you do buy it they'll release a cooler colour just afterwards, so you have FOMO either way.

Wish they just made the hardware in unlimited quantities, just make whatever the fuck amount people pre-ordered, I don't think they know how to run a business

I wanted to preorder this and missed out. Now, i have concerns and want to see reviews by digital foundry and others before considering purchasing.

I also do wonder if Nintendo is preparing a N64 classic for next year as well.
This is why I’m waiting. The idea of native 4k on a device not using emulation seems a little too good to be true. Hopefully I can get one after the reviews pop up!

It's still emulation. Devs still need to have similar skills and knowledge of the original hardware as software emulator devs do to implement it and it's still susceptible to the same emulation bugs as software emulators do.

Which is fine because there's also nothing wrong about emulation if it's accurate and compatible enough.

I’ll be more specific:

I just pretend their products don't exist when they get sold out indefinitely in a short time. Even if I'll be fortunate to get one, there's always going to be the worry of accidental breakage and then never getting another one.
