I think the .22 cal is one of the mafia's favorite weapons for doing hits. Quiet, deadly. The bullet enters the head and doesn't have enough force to leave. So it ricochets around for a while.

The bullets are also lighter and travel further and faster then most other calibers as well.

I imagine you'd need quite a bit of training to be able to pull off a headshot in the middle of a situation where you're being attacked. Not just practice shooting still targets (which is what I used the gun for) but tactical training. I've never felt unsafe enough in my environment to justify spending the time on that.

Go to a range and rent some guns and figure out which one you like best. I had my heart set on a Glock until I shot one, felt horrible in my hands. I got myself a Springfield XD9 Service with Trijicon nightsights.

Given that guns are used for sport and collectible in their own right, I understand the appeal of ownership. Just playing it for giggles, that was all. I've actually been shooting and enjoyed it tremendously but living in England owning a firearm is impractical.

It's like any other hobby, people who are really into anything end up owning more equipment related to that hobby than those who are not into the hobby believe to be necessary. I once had a roommate who was really into bowling, "why do you need ten bowling balls?"

OP, you got it yet? How you finding it? I had a choice between a Glock and a Sig (excuse me for not having model numbers - I'm not a gun nut despite having used them a little).

Chose the Sig cos I found the Glock a little too light on the trigger and small for my hands.

If memory serves correctly, and it probably doesn't, the Glock needed 5kg of pressure compared to... 11kg for the Sig. Actually those figures look wrong but hey ho.

Absolutely. I always find it amusing when so many people ask why I need so many guns.

The answer is I don't. I don't need them for self defense, and I don't need them to hunt for food. I CHOOSE to own them because they're a piece of history just like anything else that has had a significant impact on civilization. It's a fucking hobby, and nothing else. Is it so hard for people to grasp that just because guns are so often used to harm other people? They don't have to be used that way and in my case, they aren't. I shoot at targets for fun with my friends and that's it. I'm not hurting anyone, so sometimes I wish people who have never touched a gun in their life would just stfu about it and mind their own damn business.

ive got a decent black mossberg 500 series with 3 birdshot and 4 buckshot in the tube for personal defense. shotguns are great for this because just the sound of pumping it is a warning enough to scare off most people, and 3 rounds of birdshot most likely won't hurt anyone too bad but will definitely scare or stop them. and i figure if i'm still firing after 3 rounds, then shit has gone down and i need something a little more powerful.

of course hopefully it would never come to me needing it but if it does happen i'll be happy i have it.

i also have an sks 7.62 i shoot for fun sometimes.

My brother has 2 Glocks. One is his on duty, the 19 is his off duty I believe. He likes em both.

I don't own a gun and probably never will but I grew up around them. I didn't really touch them because I had something called common sense. Parents didn't even need to mention anything because again, I had an IQ that was higher than my shoe size.

The followup question I need to ask is what would you use the gun for? Target shooting, just get a 9mm. Home defense, get a .40 like a Glock 22. I love my Glock and they are so cheap to modify, easy too. I put in night sights, extended slide release, titanium firing pin, overtravel stop, and a 8lb trigger pull for next to nothing. One of the easiest guns to maintain as well.
