Ruger Red Label. Only gun I own. Helped me win some skeet tournaments when I was younger. Still love shooting skeet with it when I visit home.
Fenderputty said:I think the .22 cal is one of the mafia's favorite weapons for doing hits. Quiet, deadly. The bullet enters the head and doesn't have enough force to leave. So it ricochets around for a while.
The bullets are also lighter and travel further and faster then most other calibers as well.

Bye-bye gun.

Not just practice shooting still targets (which is what I used the gun for) but tactical training. I've never felt unsafe enough in my environment to justify spending the time on that.

gutterboy44 said:They used .22short pistols. Practically no louder than a cap gun and they would put them right up to the back of someones head and fire a few rounds off. They didn't use the .22 as a ranged weapon, but a quick nearly silent kill.
SmokyDave said:Calm down, you got me wrong. I 'got' your analogy and I happen to agree with you 100%
Given that guns are used for sport and collectible in their own right, I understand the appeal of ownership. Just playing it for giggles, that was all. I've actually been shooting and enjoyed it tremendously but living in England owning a firearm is impractical.
Fenderputty said:Low recoil for quick shooting too. Point being ... it doesn't have the stopping power of something bigger, but will still get the job done for self defense purposes.
They're cheaper to shoot at the range too. Some of the larger cal bullets can be quite costly.

I'll never again trust a .22 for self-defense.

Remarkably, Palmer had taken 22 hits from Soulis' .40-caliber Glock, 17 of which had hit center mass. Despite the fact that the weapon had been loaded with Ranger SXTsconsidered by many to be one of the best man-stoppers availablePalmer lived for more than four minutes after the last shot was fired.

Less than ten percent of all gunshot wounds are mortal injuries, and most of those are instantaneously fatal, so it is highly unlikely that you will die if you are still alive after being hit.

Whenever a friend of mine bashes guns, I take them to the shooting range, and they all enjoy it.
Also, I think the video game analogy is a good one. I own a gun because I go to the shooting range to have fun and relieve stress. I play video games to have fun and relieve stress.
It's like any other hobby, people who are really into anything end up owning more equipment related to that hobby than those who are not into the hobby believe to be necessary. I once had a roommate who was really into bowling, "why do you need ten bowling balls?"

Nice pick though OP, Glock is a great company and you'll enjoy shooting it.
Cooter said:Went to the gun store today and looked around for a while. I like the Glock 26 still but the 19 is pretty sweet. Also liked the H & K ps2000 I believe. Really nice piece but $900. The Beretta px4 was nice but not my cup of tea. I'll probably stick with either a Glock 26 or 19. Should be getting it on Saturday.

Anyone know a good site to purchase guns online or is it generally best to go through a local gun shop?
