Anyone else struggle to get into Cyberpunk 2077?

So I'm happy they recovered nicely with this game, always like when a game can still pull thru with bad launches.

That said I'm playing it and I enjoy it but I don't love it, I struggle to stay like laser focused. Partly because I'm not a huge fan of it's setting/atmosphere... But it's funny because I absolutely love Deus Ex, I feel it just doesn't something else that really pulls me in and I can't put my finger on it. Maybe someone else feels similar.

Something else I hate is when you are using your "scan", there's just so many little highlights that I get annoyed because most of them are just things that you can use to distract enemies, or overheat... But I always feel I'm missing stuff. And the loot isn't that inspiring either.

Perhaps Phantom Liberty will land for me more. I want to love the game tho, just something doesn't quite land for me.

Tried a dozen times to play it and get into it. Can’t get past about the five hour point. Just not feeling it. At all. Hate the ui and the general feel. Might have worked as a third person game for me. Hate the first person.

Yea, I try and like I said I can play it but man I just can't get like engulfed by it.. But put me in deus ex games which I feel are similar theme wise, and man I get lost.

I love the setting and I love the concept. but it has the same issue many modern games have, which is the game design being just varying degrees of boring to me.

like many modern games it is scared to actually give the player agency and has to spell everything out to you.

the first intro mission of Deus Ex is more intriguing in terms of design than anything in Cyberpunk that I've played each time I tried to get into it

Overhyped definitely. I finished it but its like a chunk of stuff was still missing. Job with your partner fails. Then everyone just carries on sending you jobs like nothing happened. The jobs mostly lack depth. You get cars but for what?
The thing about driving also is that it's so loose you can't really step on it, I mean I'm running shit over nonstop even when I try to move a little. I found the driving just atrocious

Agreed, and the story isn't good enough to hold you long term. Half of the story and characters I didn't even care about by the end.

I have picked up and dropped this game a dozen times. I always try again but it never gets its hooks in me. I’m in Phantom Liberty right now and while it is improved, I’m not seeing why people say it’s so amazing yet.

This game has never pulled me in. Even though I like it, it always feels like it’s pushing me away.
Yea picked up and dropped multiple times is my experience to the tee. I just am sitting waitin for the amazing moment that gets me. The loot in most games is what gets me and theres just nothing exciting about exploring.

I never used scan. Look, the thing with such games is that you will be overwhelmed early on and you just need to stick to it before it clicks.
Nah man that's not it at all, it isn't about being overwhelmed but it's more about there's nothing truly exciting or interesting when you explore.

Finding bullets is about the most exciting thing I find

I wouldn't mind that if there wasn't such a focus on it. I am not a story guy when it comes to games... but if it's boring but in your face the entire time, it becomes an issue.

and it's an RPG with dialog choices, so I feel forced to focus on it as well

If you can't get into a game after the first 20-30 minutes then its not for you. Rarely do I play games longer than that, that I don't enjoy.. that I change my mind in liking a game.

With that said.. this is one of my favourite ARPG's of all time lol.

I honestly got into it right away, but struggled to re-play it over the years until about 3 weeks ago and it sucked me again. Trying to get the DLC going on a new character as I've forgotten a lot.

I did have that problem with Red Dead Redemption 2 though.

I'm baffled by the negativity here

The game is amazing. Didnt live up to the hype, of course, but it's still a great game, even more now after all the updates + DLC.

The atmosphere is the best part of the game, so unfortunately if you arent vibing with it, you'll be missing a lot.

At least try Phantom Liberty. To me its the best DLC from CDPR. And the vibe is very different from the main campaign, so you might enjoy it. And its a game by itself in terms of content.

i've gone through it twice. really enjoy just hanging out & spending time in night city. like yharnam, it's a game location i've always wanted to hang out in...

No, played through two times on my Xbox SX (rip) and later on PC. Would do it again. One of my dream games. Literally walked 2 hours through the city and feeling like I'm on Holiday.
I'm not even at the GTA feel yet, just driving around

Maybe soon, when I am done with major quests.

My Aerondight Gwinevere awaits

Well, im just more of a fantasy, D&D, medieval etc but like I said I feel deus ex just does this a bit better.

I won't stop it's just gonna take me longer until it really grabs me

It gets much better as it goes on

You meet some interesting characters, get to know their story, help them to achieve their goals ... The sidequests are the best part of the game, by far. Main story is very meh.

It grows on you, for sure

I think the overall chars and story I'm digging, I liked the beginning with Jackie etc...i think it's the exploration and questing, isn't really keeping me on it but yea some of my favorite games ever took a bit to find the love

Marlboro: Other M
I didn't like either because playing fps on a controller is challenging for me, but being a low life criminal don't necessarily entice me either.

I'm coming off doing so many years of WoW vanilla to TBC,i cant even count, the filler quests in Cyberpunk are either always rewarding or something new, less annoying than RDR2 which I started recently, and way less obvious filler than GTA V.

I tried to get into it twice, but I just couldn't. I wanted to like it, but the game just didn't interest me enough to keep with it. I'm not exactly sure why, but I can at least say that the characters didn't seem likeable or relatable to me, the world seemed sterile and inhuman, and the story only mildly piqued my interest. I got bogged down in all the details and just lost interest. I think I played about 10 hours before giving up. I appreciate that others find a lot of value in the game, but it just wasn't doing anything for me.

It's really difficult to get into this game without the matching Yellow computer chair they gave to certain people for free.

It's a bit like Days Gone, the launch product was a bit of mess for different reasons. The finished patched product is obviously better and what the games were meant to be.

I bought it a about year ago for my PS4 Pro and muddled around with it a bit and couldn't really get into it. Got the PS5 Pro last December and decided to download the free PS5 version and this time it clicked and I'm having a great time with it. Maybe it's the upgrades that the PS4 version was missing? Maybe my head is just in a different space that can better appreciate the game? Maybe both?

As much as I'm enjoying it, I really wish there were a third-person mode option. I don't know why they give all those character customizations when the only time you see your character is when you look in a mirror or ride a motorcycle in 3rdP.

Stopped early on when it first launched, but then played it last year when they had the current gen version up. I enjoyed it a lot and think about replaying it quite often. That said, I do wish they offered a 3rd person camera view, I think the game in first person was a bit of a misfire.

Just started Act 2, but am also a bit uncertain on what I'm playing.

I'll give it time. Sometimes the dialogue and setting have flashes of something cool, but at other times it feels quite...robotic :p

For me it was a bit of an acquired taste and I dropped it right before the final mission and didnt finish the DLC. Im sure ill finish it at some point but it didnt grab me as bad as I thought it would.

Speak for yourself

20-30 minutes is nothing in modern gaming. You basically talking about dropping a game during the tutorial
If a game takes that long to get going it isn't worth my time. An opening segment and tutorial can be interesting/fun to play as well.

What do you think holds you back?

I don't know the exact reason but there are a couple of things that I don't enjoy in games:

* I dislike first person games usually. I like being able to see my character, especially if you are going to have cool options for customization like Cyberpunk has. I feel I would enjoy the game WAY more if it was third person view instead.

* Too much trash loot

* Gameplay somehow feels "slow" and not too exciting most of the time

It's so much better than TW3 and Red Dead 2 gameplay and progression wise it's not even funny. Truly open encounters that can be attacked in anyway with about 5 different avenues to progress your character, perk/attributes, eddies, weapons, cyberware, clothing etc.

Slow compared to what? Doom? Game can be as rapid as you want when you get the dash/air dash.
