So it's wild because... I never in a million years thought I'd like the portal, but about 6 months ago I finally caved in and man what a sweet ass device. Not only does it work really well, and even better with streaming but I never realized how nice it is to not always have to go to my gaming room, I can sit and if I'm grinding something out can hang in the room with my wife etc.. It's really nice.

Bought a 30th Anniversary model recently and I love it but damn that midnight black model is calling me, anyone else sell off or just buy a Midnight model and is really happy they did so?

Lmfao the fact this is still a conversation. Yes at $200 it is a great device.

I have played more PS5 games through it and because of it.

It has massive advantages like you don't have to buy games for it. If you own a PS5 you already have a large library of games to play on it.

It works so good I never think about the fact I'm streaming anything.

Yea theyre nice, i as a trophy hunter am always playing something for some type of trophy whether it's grinding etc but Id always just head to my game room and I never realized how nice having a simple device like this can be to hang around the house using it or when on a trip etc.

I used my rog ally x tho for alot of my black myth wukong plat, was awesome

I have no clue how there are people who game without it. It's awesome. I use mine daily.
My problem is that you can get 90% of the same experience with a smartphone and an attachable controller.

Almost everyone with a PS5 already has a smartphone and you can get a backbone for under £100. You'd lose out on haptics/dualsense features, but would receive a cheaper entry price, superior battery life, better portability and a higher resolution/OLED display in return.

So i have an S10 ultra tablet, I have one of the newest iPads as well and I have setup remote play on them and you're absolutely right if that's what you have and can setup, it's great.

With that said the portal feels easily 10x better to pick up and go. For me when I setup my Samsung it was more like I propped it up, had to get my controller.. And sure it was like staring at a small TV but I found it sometimes cumbersome.

The screen on the portal is ABSOLUTELY deceivingly awesome for what it is, I mean it pops and is vibrant as hell, everything looks damn awesome on it. And you litrelly just have such a great pickup and go, turn on experience it's well worth 200 bucks. If it were any more expensive I'd say nope not worth it but 200 is peanuts for what it offers.

I don't know how much more I can say I laughed at it upon its unveiling and when it launched, I was a hater... But I eventually said for 200 bucks not much to lose, tried it and I love it.

Some little details are not felt until you're holding and using it for yourself, and thats why my opinion changed greatly when I finally tried one

I've been doing all the side content in Stellar Blade on the portal while "watching" tv with the wife. Great stuff! I think I'll go for the plat.

I only got the 30th anniversary of the base PS5. I was going to scalp it but after listing it, it became obvious I wasn't going to get much of a profit so I said fuck it and kept it for myself and traded in my launch PS5.

As someone who regularly used Vita for RemotePlay, then my phone with a DualSense, I thought the same. But, I tried one. It's just a much better experience. I experience almost zero lag, it's super fast start up, the screen looks great and the controller feels perfect.

100%, anyone out there who says differently will absolutely say the same when they finally try one. None of those other solutions really compare, they're like a hodge podge setup where this is an actual legit feeling extention of ps5 for a very affordable price.

Because I can watch sports or shows on the tv while playing my PS5 on the Portal. It’s literally ADHD perfection.
Couldn't you also do that with a phone?

You can get controllers that actually attach to the sides of the device, à la the nintendo switch. I got a BackBone recently which only cost around £70 and takes like 5 seconds to set up when I want to use it.
On top of that, most modern phones have OLED displays, which would be far superior to the LCD that the Portal uses. High end phones in particular have super high ppi displays thanks to 1080p+ resolutions, with my phone in particular has 643ppi. If you're after screen quality, phones are just better imo.

The Vita and bluetooth controllers don't really compare to attachable controllers like BackBone either. And lag would depend on your connection rather than the actual device AFAIK. Can you elaborate on why you think its a superior experience, because outside of Dualsense features, I can't think of any other pros.

Yup. And I was for the longest time too. Still do it for my Xbox.

But with the portal, I get a bigger screen and all the perks from using a Dual Sense controller, like haptics, adaptive triggers and motion controls. All those features matter and are missed when gone.

It's faster/near immideate boot up (if your PS5 is already on), seems to run better than my phone over the same WiFi, has a big, bright screen that looks much better than my phone and the controller form factor is perfect.

But that's the thing using an actual dualsense with the large beautiful screen is a game changer. It just feels about as natural playing for a large handheld as it gets.

It's just a more premier experience, I have every dodad imaginable for gaming mobile like this, I went thru a long experimental process before I bought one playing on my tablets, on my laptop, on my phone, they were all good but when I finally said let me try a portal and it arrived and I was quickly playing it all clicked, it's a great device.

Sure if someone is just hell bent on why not to buy one I get it, there's other ways to play with remote play... But if you finally have one in hand and using it, it all will click and feel perfect for a 200 dollar device

I was totally lost at first. I thought it was portal by valve and then did t understand the 30th anniversary. Haha.

These seem to be far more popular that I had expected. Are there more features on the horizon?

Well the nicest feature recently added was cloud streaming which even tho it runs remote plate very well, cloud streaming is a game changer.
