AirPods Pro 2 - something about tolerances is def off with mechanics at Apple. The earbuds are so stiff that you have to yank them out with nails. Did you get any other straps besides the ocean one? I went with the alpine one and absolutely love it. I will get the ocean one for water activities next year. I am tempted to use that or maybe the trail one for actual workouts.

Not the Ultra bands. I mostly use this for scuba, and have a bunch of bands from my previous watches (leather magnet, Hermes, pride, Nike, tropical, stainless steel, fitness…)

new airpod pro made through full day at work, noise cancelling is a nice step up (completely eliminates fan noise at work) and they sound better than old ones. My old ones were giving me problems with case not charging, so routinely Id pop them in to charge for few mins after about 4 hrs only to find out they are not charging because stupid case says 0% until I plug it in for 5 mins then back at full charge.

these lasted all day, 4hrs in was still at 37%, back to 80 after quick charge on my 15 got home with over 50% on airpods pros. So folks who looking for longer use time between charges and better noise cancelling you are in for a treat.

Granted I've been off Galaxy's for a few years now but Samsung's ecosystem was awful. There's battle between Samsung and Google for your attention on a Galaxy. Samsung's Bixby, store, family of apps all felt like budget versions. And even if I had everything Samsung uninstalled, I would still get notifications pushing their apps. Even Google's UI for their apps wasn't that intuitive despite looking slick.

Samsung's hardware is great but they need to either make their own OS or adopt Google, and Google needs to put more care into efficiency when using their apps because Apple has them beat by miles.

And for WhatsApp, I'm not sure why a bigger user-base matters when it comes to accessibility? If no one you know uses it, it's userbase size makes no matter. I'm not against WhatsApp but I enjoy Apple's messenger more because of the integration with other apps on my iPhone. In my experience, Americans use Apple's messenger (if they have an iPhone) and non-Americans use WhatsApp. 99% of my circle are Americans so WhatsApp hardly gets used.

Samsung have their own OS - Tizen. It even has some support for apks (it's related to Sailfish, which comes from Maemo/Meego that is a Debian fork that Nokia created).

The pressure by Google to not use it is pretty intense though. Pretty scummy behaviour from them (not that Samsung are saints themselves).

It's also why we got the in some ways inferior Gear OS Samsung smartwatches. They used to run Tizen and have decent battery life for full smartwatches with OLED displays. Now they're just as bad as the Apple Watch.

Honestly when you're making plans with a group, especially meeting somewhere, and everyone's got an iPhone, it's so much better than when the rando Android user is in the group. Maybe Whatsapp or whatever can do it too, but the ease of just sharing your location only until the end of the day, for example, is great. iMessage is great, and so is FaceTime when the kids want to see the grandparents. Before my parents switched to iPhone we had to use Google chat whatever, and it sucked balls. FaceTime works flawlessly.

I got some Klipsch ear buds when my AirPod first blew out and even though they worked fairly well, it just wasn't as seamless as AirPods, and they had dumb design choices like pulsing lights, which isn't great when trying to put a baby down in the dark. They also wiggled free when walking the dog with them. Klipsch is a premium brand and even they couldn't get close to how easy the AirPods are to use.

I'm sure there are pros to Android I don't really know about because I haven't had one for almost 10 years. I used to fuck around with my rooted Galaxy, running nightlies and whatever to customize all the stuff...but once I jumped ship for an iPhone 5S, I never looked back. I may end up paying more, but it's worth just having stuff work.

I haven’t locked myself to a single company? I’ve just explained how much better the experience has been since I switched over, so I keep coming back. I’ve tried alternatives, as I explained, and found them to be lacking. Features which are fleshed out and implemented well, functionality, and simplicity are things I value. Downloading half a dozen different chat apps and hoping my group all has one of them isn’t that.

If someone else comes along and provides a clearly superior alternative, I’ve got no loyalty to Apple. Same thing with consoles, I don’t give a shit whose logo is on the box. My point was simply the iOS ecosystem has been far and away better for me.

It’s just a completely easier , better, and more secure experience . who would willingly have multiple accounts for worse software? Add to it the connection between iPhone , iPad , and osx and you would have to be dumb to not at least acknowledge how well that ecosystem works together and works for productivity all together.

Knowing apple it will probably be 64gb and 256gb models. It would be nice if they could start with 128gb or have an in the middle option. But apple are sneaky like that.

iPad Mini has been tempting for me but I can't really justify having 2 iPads. I like the form factor of the 11" Pro too much to get rid of it. But having a smaller, eBook sized one would be fantastic for travel and general reading.

So the new Lock Screen that rotates pictures of specific people is great, like every hour there’s some pic of the kids I haven’t seen for a long time, but it’s not letting me select all the people the photo app detects. So right now I have a choice of my two kids, and randomly it also lets me select my sister and dad, but my wife isn’t on the list even though she’s favorited in the photo app. Anyone know how to add more people to the rotation when the photo app can recognize their faces?

Otherwise the rotating Lock Screen is great.

Decided to skip iPhone 14 and traded up my 11 Pro to an iPhone 13 Pro instead.

2. Yeah it's not hard for me to use multiple apps, but it's easier to just use one. I have EGS and Steam and Gamepass on my PC but it'd be a lot nicer if I had one app to keep updated. And when it comes to messaging, it's not just me dealing with myself anymore. When I send a text in iMessage to a phone number, I know it's going to go through either to the associated iMessage account or as an MMS. I don't have to guess if the contact has the appropriate app to receive. Third party apps are pretty uncommon as a primary form of communicating in the US which leads us to...

3. You're right, if I were in a different region, I'd probably be using whatever that preferred app is. Good thing I can get them all on iPhone if I so choose, but I find that iMessage is far and away the best one to use, not only from a functionality standpoint, but because most people here use it too.

I'm not letting Apple dictate shit; I can put whatever other messaging apps on my phone I want (I have Signal, for example) and I know how the rest of the world lives. I prefer iMessage. It's better for where I am and whom I interact with. I wish Apple would open up the app to some other features that exist outside of the ecosystem so it's not basically all or nothing in group texts when an Android user is involved, but it's not something that keeps me up at night.

Well I got the 2nd gen AirPods Pro today. They do sound significantly better than my OGs from when they first came out, but it’s hard to say whether or not it’s because those were just blown out/worn out silicone plugs or if it’s the new improvements. The fit test showed the default silicone was a good fit, whereas my old ones kept telling me to try a different size, and it’s nice to have noise cancelling and pass through that actually work again.

Oh and the volume control is nice. If I’m tracking a workout on my watch I have to fuck around and find the screen showing what’s playing to adjust it, but now I can just swipe the AirPod. Subtle but substantial QOL change

You can be on your phone all day and think you have a full battery until it says 20% which is awful visual design and a step back from all the other IOS.

I think there may be something wrong with your phone. I have iOS 16 and the battery slowly drains in the corner. It never stays full and suddenly drops.

Could be particular phones too. All I can say is that doesn’t seem normal from personally experiences. Almost like the software isn’t able to properly read data/charge from the battery.

Regardless, Apple should fix this issue. That would be beyond annoying to experience.

I figured it out. If you turn on percentage it does not show the drain just the percent numbers. If you turn off percentage it shows partial drain.

ive never had an Apple Watch before but I’m looking at the new se 2. My wife has a series 6 right now and likes it and I’m thinking of grabbing a watch but I have no frame of reference to compare it. Is a 6 pretty close to an se 2 or the se 1 or a 7 or whatever? I don’t mean speed only but screen size and whatnot. I’d probably get the 44mm one if that matters.

The product page will give you a comparison to other models. Personally, I’d go for a 7 or 8 or an SE but I use mine frequently.

Can confirm my battery indicator seems unchanged from 15 to 16. Seems to drain the same way it did before.

And if you guys have watches you should really make sure to add other people to the tracking app, have competitions. It’s actually pretty motivating to up my activity levels. I got mine as a gift for myself about 3 years ago for getting a new job with a big raise and I don’t regret it a bit.
