Apple Event 8/7 - New Macs, not iPods

I'n still curious about the macbook--- I'm still planning on buying the $1299 mid-range version-- but apple has a history of updating or bringing in new versions nearly every season--- so now I'm wondering if I should just wait.

O, you mean the non-upgradable things known as iMacs. O ya, those.

I'll take any Dell over that poorly designed new POS.
 
Looks nice. Thinner, black trim around the monitor. Hm. I like the upgradeable to 1TB of storage. That could be good.

Then you might as well never buy anything from Apple. If you want an Apple product, just buy it a month or two after it's introduction. I think that's the best option to not have an outdated product soon.

Why would you have been worried that it would have had one of those "integrated" graphics solutions? The iMac has never not had an actual graphics card, so long as I can remember.

As a person who wants to buy a new imac for photo editing I'm kind of bummed about the forced glossy screen. I have good inside lighting though so once I calibrate it I should be ok and glare won't be an issue

My point is he made an invalid comparison, aka spin.
 
I'm in 2 minds about it really.

Like the thinness, don't like the black border. As with most Apple stuff though it will probably look much better in real life.
 
Argh, they still only come with 1 gig ram default. I need 2..Does that mean I couldn't just walk into a store and pick up one with 2 gigs in it?

I tend to agree, but I have to wonder if it is so minimalistic that it wont look empty or off balance between the size of the screen and everything else.

Didn't the low end iMac ($999) have them? I can't check the store but I am pretty sure they did.
 
i wonder what the spec of the 1199 one will be. probably shatty, but if not i might get this.

edit: yeh give me 250 gigs of HDD like i need it instead of 2 gigs of ram. i want a 160 gig with 2.4ghz core2duo and 2 gigs ram for 1399.

Yeah, pretty easy to make that judgement call when you're seeing photos of a graphical representation of the product on a screen.

I'm fairly certain that was the case. Only thing that kept me from getting an iMac (which has always been--since the intel switch--parallel to the Macbook Pro as far as hardware goes). I think the $1199 is the best deal of these judging from specs.
 
i'm also at a loss as to why they're only shipping with a gig of RAM considering how cheap DDR2 prices are at the moment.
 
It's a solid design - it fits well into the current apple aesthetic - [edit] brushed metal may be more neutral than white these days and definitely more professional.

get your head out of Job's ass. It is ugly. You should know I've never been one to bash Apple and usually oogle over their design. This one I do not consider a winner. The keyboard is the bright spot if you ask me.

I am 99.9% sure that every iMac has had SOME kind of graphics card, even if they weren't the hotness. Mac Mini and MacBooks are the only recent products that went with integrated.

so they can charge you much more to upgrade your ram. Some people buy 2nd party sticks, but I have only had bad experiences doing this.

I don't know that, you don't know that. I thought the current-as-of-yesterday iMac might be ugly until I first saw it, and then realized that I was wrong. It's absolutely impossible to make a true judgement call on the style/design of any product until you see it in person.

Well if you are mixing sticks then you will have problems. In the end it is probably cheaper to buy the lowest ram possible in the mac itself and buy a 2 stick package from a reliable manufacturer and just replace the stick the mac comes with.

You can walk into the store and pick up one with 1 Gig in it and then have one of the guys there install another gig - or you could go home and do it yourself in 5 minutes :)
 
Okay, wait... what are we calling "integrated" graphics here? Because when you say that, I'm thinking the "Intel integrated" stuff where instead of an actual graphics card, it is part of the motherboard and uses some of the computer's main RAM for VRAM. Are you guys talking that? I have a G5 iMac, not a high end one, and it certainly doesn't have that.

If you're talking graphics card that can't be replaced, but are still dedicated graphics cards, then yes, all iMacs have had that. But I really, really don't think any of the iMacs have used the Intel "integrated" stuff like the Mini and MacBooks do.

The biggest thing I'm not fond of and what also is the biggest surprise to me is the use o a black apple logo. I would have thought he would have at least used that inlaid logo they have on the back of the cinema displays, not black.
