Are MS too scared to port Halo to Playstation?

Name a MS game that could come to Playstation and if it isn't confirmed it is at least heavily rumoured. The exception seems to be Halo. Or to be more precise Halo The Master Chief Collection. It has me thinking that this is the one they are most reluctant to let go as it is the series that has defined the Xbox since day 1. I know I'd buy it day 1 should it come out.

What say you?

It's coming and Microsoft is not scared of Xbox Fans they been slapping them around for years making them accept new normals every year .

People buy more games on PlayStation, PC & Switch so that's where MS want to release the games they don't care about fanboys being hurt at this point they will do what makes dollars & sense.

But Halo IS heavily rumoured to be coming. Along with everything else.
Halo 6? Sure but that is years away. I mean MCC specifically as that is something that should be here already and I think MS are trying to delay it as long as possible.

They’re all coming, anyone who doesn’t see that is ignorant at best, stupid at worst.

Gears collection in later 2025 with Gears E-Day exclusive in 2026.
They will drop Halo MCC an year earlier (on PS6!) once NextHalo is done.

They are still trying to talk Colt Eastwood down from the ledge, make sure he is stable to handle such a XBOX game coming to PS5.

Halo may no longer be what it once was, but it's a port they need to make right. Once a flag ship, if done right could become relevant again.

They shouldn't be. The only people that would be upset by this are the fanboys and I really couldn't give a shit about what the hardcore fanbase think when a console specific IP moves to another platform.

Halo is a fantastic series and PlayStation is a great place for it to be, especially if it includes cross play with Xbox and PC. It's one of the best ways to keep those games alive. I would triple dip on this 100%.

MS has never feared making money and usually been pretty keen on doing so rather than reluctant.

Halo's coming, MCC included, but they're not going to be one of the easier ports given the history of the tech it's built upon. I mean.... how long was MCC in the wilderness before it became a solid product? How many years?

There will be a plan to drop each game into a specific window where it will maximise sales and avoid clashing with anything including their own new releases, big 3rd party releases and Sony's own first party efforts (and of course Nintendo's when the Switch 2 finally arrives).

They're not scared. They're not reluctant. It's going to take time and it has to be done right.

The port of MCC to PC was a dumpster fire. I can only imagine how bad it would be on PS. It’s just one big massive cobble job with bandaids to keep it together.

Meh…PC is shit to develop for, especially when porting from another platform. That’s why we are so many shitty PC ports.

This will be nice for halo mcc if it can get ported to the ps5. Will instantly buy ps5 and play all my classic halo games there

It's no different than working on any other hardware, if you're competent enough.

There's even small teams of 2-3 people doing better work than many developers.

If management is garbage you get a garbage port (because they give garbage working conditions or hire garbage devs) and you get garbage ports.

Garbage in garbage out.

That's what I've been thinking as well. And imagine the Switch 2 port?

I think MCC was even worse because they were trying to bundle all the games, which were all from different consoles, then they were trying to integrate their multiplayers AND THEN implementing cross play. MS fucked up BAD on the MCC port.

I think the reason you haven't heard the announcement is this. They only just recently announced one of Xbox's core/pillar franchises is coming to PS5: Forza Horizon. There is a lot of hype and interest in that. Many in the Xbox crowd were also taken aback. MS doesn't want to announce another core/pillar franchise - indeed, THE core/pillar Xbox franchise - coming to PS5 now. It would step on FH's hype. They don't want that to be overshadowed. They are spacing out these announcements. From a marketing perspective, that is smart. If you bunch them all up together, the excitement/interest they generate is diluted, so you want to space them out.

I'd love to play Halo Whizbang or whatever the next one is on PS5 with full support for naive features like Dualsense without needing an xbox.

I'd like to hear about the future of Halo soon. Took 5 years to make slipspace engine and Halo Infinite and that was supposed to be their 10 year game but narry any single player dlc in view. The end of Infinite was getting interesting, even if they did the third game in a row of just dumping the previous game's setup off screen again, which was fine since Guardians plot was stupid.

Collection of old Halo and Gears games will go to the PS5. Prepping them for the $70 version of Halo Infinite and $70 Gears E-day (6 months after release) while Xbox players get them all free on Gamepass.

I wonder if all these people hoping MS ports their entire catalog to PS have actually played these games lately.
Even the most recent iterations of Halo and Gears feel so dated and have been leapfrogged by other games in a big way.

It's a sealed deal after Forza Horizon pre-sales, we're just waiting for the announcement. Will it be MCC port or Halo CE remake day one is whole another question.

The problem for MS is that there are two Halo games, MCC and Infinite. MCC is 11 years old at this point and they shifted resources onto Infinite. But Infinite sucks and everyone hates it. People saying FH5, well FH5 is much more popular than Infinite ever was.

So, their options are to port a newer game they'd rather support but nobody likes, or a much older game they don't want to support and then basically hit the restart button on full support of it. There are no good options. If they had an actual good new Halo they coiuld port, it would be on PS already.

They might be waiting to see how the other games go over first. Performance/stability/etc and sales. Figure that out before wasting the money porting a bunch of games that will get negative press and low sales.
