Astro Bot Director rules out PSVR2 version but wants to hear from fans about potential PC version

Speaking to MinnMax, host Ben Hanson asked creative director Nicolas Doucet if there was any interest in a VR version of Astro Bot.

“No chance,” Doucet replied. “It’s designed for a different medium.”

When pressed by Hanson if there was a “zero percent” chance, Doucet reiterated that if the game was to be brought to VR, “it would be a different game”.

Later in the interview, the possibility of a PC version was brought up, with Doucet asked whether he had a message for PC players keen to play the game.

“Well, we want to hear from you,” Doucet replied. “Absolutely, we want to hear from you.”

Eh, it won’t do great numbers on PC. A 2+ year old port of a platformer on PC isn’t exactly something that sells well. It would certainly be enough to make a profit from the porting costs, so no real point in not doing it eventually.

Its probably gonna be a great game, but not a console-seller. Bring it out on PC 6 months after. Get people excited about the PS brand.

Part of the appeal of these games is the unique DualSense features which I doubt will translate well to PC.

Still, for those who refuse to buy a PS5, I’m glad they get to experience this gem.
Dual Sense can be used on PC (in fact, I own one and it's currently my default controller) and all Sony ports so far that had any DS-specific features in the first place seem to support it.

I love to see it.

Hopefully more developers get on board with features like this, really helps increase the immersion.

This era of SIE is very much not for me. Every day, it's something else they sloppily mutter from their mouth that just makes me have less and less faith or interest in what they do with their console.

If they're already teasing PC players about "their input", just know a PC/Steam version is already in the works. SIE just want the paypigs to shell out for $70 at launch by tricking them no such other version is in development, that's all.

My hype and interest in the brand (at least in terms of the console) couldn't be any lower at this point, but I'm sure they'll find a way to make it even lower. But hey, at least "it's not Xbox", right? That's good enough from what some others keep telling me.

Lol.

do these types of games sell at all on PC? im thinking not really.

I mean, most Sony games don't sell exceptional on PC

Don’t you have a ps5?
What's unclear in "I'll pick it up on PC"?

I suppose they can do alright, but they won't set the world on fire. Indie platformers with novel concepts (such as Owlboy, which is crap) can be surprise hits on PC.

PC within 12 months but I knew this already.

Still got my ps5 pre order. Can't wait!

My most hyped game for the second half of the year.

Wrong.

Still plenty of reasons.
Like which ones?

Playing on PC you get:

- free multiplayer/free saves;
- better prices and promotions (at least in my region);
- better graphics/performance (with a little bit more investment);
- acess to all Xbox games (without waiting), gamepass, Steam, etc.

I play exclusively on Playstation platforms since 2018, but I see PC being a better platform overall these days, and Playstation is not giving enough benefits for PS5 be worth.

It’d be wild if this came to PC. It’s the most Sony-identity game ever. If this comes to PC, then no Sony exclusives are off the table.

Anyway, I’m all for it coming to PC. But ya gotta get those DualSense features working, Sony.

Why wouldn’t a ps5 owner pick it up for ps5?

Not like the experience is any different

I will wait for PC because

A. A lot of other games I wanna play this year
B. I would rather own the game on Steam than PSN

Thanks for the heads up from the director, because this 100% confirmed it’s happening. I probably would’ve picked this up for ps5 next year if it reviews well. Astro Bot tech demo is probably my most played ps5 game.

Why do they even have a ps5 if they are unwilling to buy games for it?
I'm not sure detective, but we'll get to the bottom of this

Sentenza already mentioned it in post #11, all the dualsense stuff works, you just gotta have it wired.
Like Returnal & Ratchet and Clank, both have fantastic haptics and I enjoyed them on PC. Seems like Sackboy supports it too, but I haven't played it since I bought the Sense.
Hell, it even works with Switch emulators, but the haptics there are meandering compared with Returnal, Golf Story got some neat tricks and that's about it.

Anyway, I'll get it on PC.
