They really love their Indiana Jones at the Academy, lol.
I didn't play it, but i mean its alright like....overrated af if you ask me "bites burger"
Seriously though, i don't believe its on the level of FF7 Rebirth or Metaphor, but the academy has always been biased, just like Famitsu.

Amazing what games can be nominated when an awards show nominates everything that releases in a calendar year and not just everything before November.

"I didn't play it, but it's overrated"

Seriously?

I like the new Indy game more than New Colossus, tbh. It's easily Machine Games' second best game.

But the best Indy game of all time is still Fate of Atlantis.

I'm just trying to understand your opinion. What would have to be different about the game for it to be a proper one?
There is very little to understand.

If people say it's a proper game, then it is.
Personally, I just think it's more of Astro's Playroom. It doesn't change a single thing about Astro Bot, nor is it intended to detract from whatever awards it wins.

For the longest time, i have felt out of touch with the gaming critics who hand out 93s like candy, but it's clear that the critics are simply aligned with game developers, and I am the dinosaur wondering just how the fuck a basic ass platformer can not only win GOTY but also Best Technical Awards from both critics and developers themselves.

How Silent Hill 2 can be completely overlooked in game design, writing, graphics and acting categories.

How Wukong can win for best art direction but not get nominated for best technical graphics?

I get it. Games are art and not everyone is supposed to agree with everything but it didnt used to be like this. I was pretty much in tune with both critics and developers up until around 2021.

Not amazing, not even new. It has been this way for years so why do you think the rules should change just for Indiana Jones?

BTW, your prediction that Indy was going to dominate these awards ain't looking so good, I'm afraid.

Wut?

Is this a bait post?

Indiana Jones is great. Combines IM Sim genre with story driven titles.

Lot of fun exploration, can turn off hand holding entirely.

Definitely deserves to be there.

PS3 era Naughty Dog fans will never recover after this.

Yes I know that's what I said " we haven't gotten updated numbers"

Also it's going into a bundle so they will probably update with numbers like 5 or 10 million
You believe Sony are withholding updated sales figures from their financial reports so they can tweet out a milestone down the line?

That basic ass paltformer shits on almost everything at the moment, but I suspect you haven't played it.

Wukong rightfully won for Art Direction, but Astro Bot won for Technical Achievement. Astro Bot has nothing on a game like Wukong in terms of advanced graphics such as ray tracing, caustics, or Nanite. What it does have, however, is a highly advanced physics engine and a killer integration of different technical aspects such as fluid dynamics, mass, and material property that actually contribute to the gameplay. There's a whole level consisting of Astro turning into a sponge where he must absorb large amounts of water to do things like extinguish fire or us his higher mass to progress through the level. You also have one where you have turn into a mouse-sized creature to solve puzzles and have to switch up between your regular form and your diminutive one.

Go play it, the creativity in this game is almost unmatched. They actually make the DualSense fun to use beyond just silly gimmicks. It 100% deserves this award and is more technically "next-gen" than pretty much every game on this list.

Astro Bot has had good legs since it's last sales update in November, appearing on charts almost every week. I wouldn't be surprised if it's close to 2m at the moment.

It'll be lucky to do 4m lifetime without a PC release, and knowing Sony and PC ports as of late, they'll manage to fuck that up as well.

I don't think that type of game has much of an audience on PC.
