One of the very things I, and many who have played this game too damned much have said, is that the audio design and music in this game is highly underrated.

Especially the audio design department. All the little nuances, the sounds they developed feeling punchy and rewarding, the ominous tones of the music that is very similar to The Expanse or Black Mirror how they play in the background.

Very impressed with it, and phenomenal audio doesn't get enough love.

For the longest time, i have felt out of touch with the gaming critics who hand out 93s like candy, but it's clear that the critics are simply aligned with game developers, and I am the dinosaur wondering just how the fuck a basic ass platformer can not only win GOTY but also Best Technical Awards from both critics and developers themselves.

You mean the same game critics that haven't given a single game an aggregate 90+ in almost 5 months?

Astro Bot has had good legs since it's last sales update in November, appearing on charts almost every week. I wouldn't be surprised if it's close to 2m at the moment.

It'll be lucky to do 4m lifetime without a PC release, and knowing Sony and PC ports as of late, they'll manage to fuck that up as well.
it's getting bundled in March. it'll now sell as many as the bundles they make. could go from under 2 mill to 20 mil in a year.

Wukong rightfully won for Art Direction, but Astro Bot won for Technical Achievement. Astro Bot has nothing on a game like Wukong in terms of advanced graphics such as ray tracing, caustics, or Nanite. What it does have, however, is a highly advanced physics engine and a killer integration of different technical aspects such as fluid dynamics, mass, and material property that actually contribute to the gameplay. There's a whole level consisting of Astro turning into a sponge where he must absorb large amounts of water to do things like extinguish fire or us his higher mass to progress through the level. You also have one where you have turn into a mouse-sized creature to solve puzzles and have to switch up between your regular form and your diminutive one.

Haven’t this been done before? By other games?

One thing thats never been done before, performant ray tracing and path tracing like in Indiana Jones. I mean, they have made ray tracing playable on amd cards.

No one on PC is going to buy this. Come on now, it won't even do half of PS5 sells there.

The game has PlayStation console as a central theme of the Astro games so I'm not really thinking it would do well either assuming Sony bothers to port it.

So what's wrong with 4m lifetime sales, for a game that costs $30-$40 million? Assuming the average game sale is $40 that's over $160 million in revenue.

Dude, have you played the game? That one level with the jewels in it, but basically any level - the amount of interactivity, the physics, is through the roof. Without dropping a single frame.

(yes yes, there's that one bit in the DF video, when it actually can drop a frame or few, but really)

Kids don't give a damn about the PlayStation theme in the game , my niece wanted to buy it for her kids on their Switch lol. Because they keep talking about the game because I let them play it when they was at my house.

Some interesting nominations. A few games I hadnever heard of. Definitely going to check out Neva and 1000xRESIST

But didn't Satisfactory come out years ago? And didn't Riven come out in... 1997?

Amazing what games can be nominated when an awards show nominates everything that releases in a calendar year and not just everything before November.

"I didn't play it, but it's overrated"

Seriously?
I was citing a common meme as a joke.
I didn't play it because i don't like Indiana Jones and i don't like the Uncharted adventure game formula, i used to enjoy older Tomb Raider games in the past but not anymore.
Still, i highly doubt its better than FF7 Rebirth or Metaphor though. Feels to me like Indiana Jones has a lot of boomers and Gen X fans so it automatically gains buffs in these shows just based on that, they are the target audience, meanwhile the game did poorly in sales compared to the rest, seems like new generation doesn't care that much about Indiana James

Extremely happy for this, I wish Snoy would take a clue and move on from TLOU into Astro Bot. The industry would be a much better place.

What are you even asking for? Naughty Dog to make Astro Bot?

And take what clue? Since Astro Bot won GOTY it should kill off another franchise they own from a seperate developer which also won GOTY (both games in the series)?

Maybe you think they should kill of the wildly successful HBO series and replace it with Astro Bot?

Fair point. Probably doesn't matter.

Nothing at all. What gave you the impression that I thought there was something wrong with that? A platformer that isn't Mario doing 4m is good.

Some people on this website get very defensive for no reason at all.

Yes I’m asking for Naughty Dog to move away from the cinematic walk ‘em up shit they have been doing since TLOU.

As good as the new Astrobot is, the original PSVR game is just on a whole other level, the mechanics and level design based around being able to look about you along with that incredible sense of being inside the game is just unmatched, it's such a shame that there wasn't a VR mode for this new one
