Average PC gamer vs the illusion of "Pc master race"

You're not lying. The PCMR community is full of frauds and liars.

Yea, maybe on an enthusiast forum like GAF people will have much better than average PCs but in the real world most are rocking much older and weaker GPUs.

When you get on social media or the internet in general everyone owns a 4090 lol but in reality less than 1% of a small set of PC gamers actually play on the latest and greatest hardware.

Sounds like groomer paradise. 👀
:( It's not

In the analogy the user would have bought a BMW 116i and then made this exact thread cept about the average car owner.
Pistonheads aint gonna be impressed with that 116i especially when for the money they advised him to get something better like a Civic Type R.
Fair, I guess. Beemers are not good longterm cars. (Neither of those make 700hp tho...)

I would get a GR corolla myself if we were talking fast hot hatches

Lots of casuals and non "gamer" types that use steam. I imagine this dilutes the percentages to a large degree. Would be interesting if you could filter out any user who has had less than 10 hours of monthly steam usage.

Regardless, I have always found steam hardware surveys interesting. I find it interesting that there is still a measurable amount of steam VR users, that use the PSVR1 to play PCVR, not PSVR2... PSVR1

Wait he is choosing to buy an AM4 chip now??
We are on second gen AM5, whats the logic of doing that?

The 12400 was supposed to be a stopgap CPU till I could get a 135K or 137K (I was waiting for whatever the nextgen LGA1700 was going to be) but everything I throw at the 12400 it eats, so ive seen no reason to upgrade.
Looking at ArrowLake it also doesnt seem worth the effort of getting a whole new platform, so im gonna ride this out until my 12400 is actually begging for mercy, hopefully then there will be a CPU really worth upgrading to.
Yep was asking for advice on a new build and around his budget.

Funny thing is AM5+DDR5 is cheap now and now is the best time to get in before new tariffs are in place for the US, which will affect prices for PC parts globally. Buying into old outgoing tech would be fine but the price isn't that far off. And he'd be spending more in the long run should he want to keep the same PC for a while. But hey not my money so idc.

Nice. Yeah chances are you're going to be GPU bound and the CPU is still great for gaming. I'm sort of in the same boat with my 5800X3D. No reason to upgrade unless games are struggling to run properly and smoothly.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when people speak of "The PC" as if it's only a single ultra powerful platform with a 4090 (today). Whenever there is some technical issue with a console game, one of the first things people say "just get a PC". Keyword being "a" PC. Really? That's not how it works. There are thousands of configurations of PCs out there and the vast majority of them are less powerful than a PS5/XSX nevermind a PS5 PRO. People always say things like "the PC runs game X this welll" but what they really mean is their specific PC config may run it better or there exists some PC spec that will run it better. But to generalize the entire PC platform as conforming to any specification is just wrong and highly annoying.

Fact is I literally have no less than 6 "PCs" in my home at the moment with all kinds of components that I get from work. Everything from a 2080 up to a 4090, 10K Intel CPUs to 24 core AMD Threadrippers, gaming laptop with a 4070 laptop GPU and 12 core AMD CPU, even a Surface book and more. Only 3 of those PCs are capable of delivering a superior gaming experience to my base PS5 and only 2 can rival the PS5 PRO from a tech perspective.

Of course, none of them ultimately can rival my PS5 PRO setup in terms of display and audio so I would rather play console games in my mancave any day over my desktop setups as a whole.

A lot of PC nerds have wrecked their brains forever by playing games in 240 FPS and now they consider anything else unplayable. It's like a drug and it's not normal

And it still slays lol.
Honestly, their 30fps is very responsive. probably the reason framepacing is so fucked because they deliver the frames asap
Wouldnt mind replaying a remaster of this.
Dont remember shit but its my favorite souls game and the easiest for me.
Didnt platinum it but had the best pvp battle of all. I was counting the mother fuckers bullets as he was spamming me for 30 minutes only to fuck him up in 1 minute hahahaha

User made a PC building advice thread
Alot of users in that thread would be the 700HP+ HP gang, but obviously thats not for everyone, so they gave him some pretty decent advice but he refused to listen and decided to make this thread.

So in the analogy the pistonhead guys have these high HP cars, but also understand what would be a better buy for a lower budget.
A Civic Type R(the better car outright) or a even the GR Corolla indeed, but user decides NOPE the BMW 116i is for me so im gonna fight for AM4 platform in 2024, then make a thread about how the average car wouldnt even keep up with my 116i anyway.

Hyundai Ioniq 5N is so fkn cool but the price is crazy and Poland is so ass backwards, I wouldn't have a room to charge it, hence I got a classic hybrid.
For toyota... screw corolla. YARIS GR is where it's at. I mean not for me, I wouldn't fit inside :p

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
What's missing?
Me playing the game. :goog_relieved:

Reading the YouTube comments some dude points out that the video is a but cherry-picked since there are some effects like don't work yet, like the blood splatters on the player character or the snow just not being rendered at all.

Also, I guess there's still ton of optimizations to be made. My bet is that once it's properly polished shadPS4 will run better than RPCS3.

Still, the progress on this thing has been amazingly fast. We'll probably have a more than decent build before the year ends.

Console gamer: game runs at 25 - 45 fps at 1400 upscaled to 4 k. IQ looks like shit.. nothing he can do 😢

PC Gamer with low end pc : lowers settings to get 4k solid 60fps with excellent IQ even if the graphics are cut back.

PC still wins .. get it?

Europe.
That car would not fit in any parking spot in whole of europe.
If you parked this anywhere in EU, it would be visible from space
Learn to drive it and you will be fine.
It has all the parking assist features and more.
I have the ecodiesel one that i will drive into the ground as since i deleted it i get 10 liters per 100km in the city and 7 on highway. Plus get more torque than a hemi.

Trust me even here it wont fit everywhere.
Mine is a full crew cab and 6foot 2 bed and i cant use many drive throughs cuz of turning radius or in most places i can only park by reversing into stalls.

I am so nostalgic for the time before the PS4, and all of the casuals and retards flocked to PC gaming because that unfunny fuckhead Yahtzee told them to.

It was so much better before threads like this, OPs like this, and the kind of idiocy that we see every single time in any PC-related thread. We didn't have to endure utter morons with hot takes like 'The PCMR community is full of frauds and liars', or babbling about the supremacy of their 'pro' consoles.

If you don't like it/can't afford it - then fuck off back to your Playstation. Why does this conversation need to constantly be had?

I don't disagree, If we had GRY here in the states, I would have gone for it. The 2+2 was the only option, as I would have gone for the smaller/lighter car as it's not my main vehicle.

The objective superiority comes into play in situations like we see for Cyberpunk and the PS5 Pro. CDPR doesn't want to take the time to fool with it, Pro gamers are Pro mad about it. Especially knowing that the majority of that work is literally changing some number values in a text editor. Ironically, it's the PSSR that they probably don't want to devote the time for. It's obvious it takes some tuning to get right. If a PC gamer installed a new GPU, he doesn't have to grouse on the internet and beg the developers to edit that text file for them. They can literally just change some settings and play the game. Sony never advertised the amount of customer grousing that has to go on to get some of these games patched. Someone could attach a monetary value to it so we could get the real out-the-door price on the Pro.

OP, it's bigger than shiny puddles and AI generated frames. There's a lot going for PC as a gaming platform. Especially for anyone really invested in building a library that will be playable in 10-20 years.

I would never invest in AM4 if I was building completely from scratch but I’ll probably be buying a 5700x3d tomorrow.

I current have a 3600/4070S in a ITX build and $200 is much easier for me to stomach then $600-625 for me to upgrade to AM5. I just got the PS5 Pro and will get the new Nintendo console and I’d rather put that extra $425 towards that.

It is not a modest build. It will play anything out there better than consoles. I have a 12700 + 4080 and i will stay with this build until zen6 + 6080. I'm pretty sure my pc will run everything dlss quality 60 fps on high or ultra for the next 2 years.

Civic Type R and gr corolla are the perfect mix of sportscar and grocery getter
Dude the civic xi is insane. I almost bought it but Kia won with features and size

I, for one, am tired of PC platform holding back what developers are able to achieve.
This has to be sarcasm lol
I see, but Horizon for instance received updates for years, I can see the same Ragnarok receiving further improvements over time.

Days Gone ain't really surprising as the game is an optimization masterpiece.

It did admittedly have performance issues at launch on PS4, but it's still a massive open world with hundreds of characters on screen, that looked like this on consoles:

A massive open world running at 60fps looking like this on base PS5 is still impressive to me. We should have had the sequel by now.. sigh.

Maybe not necessarily raped, but there's also RE Engine games for instance running considerably better on both Series X and PS5 than 2080, no?
The post also stated "Mid-Tier 2018 PC" though, and a 2080 ain't.

Man Days Gone optimization is nuts. I remember playing it on a 3070ti with extra scaling to about 6K and it still was in the 80s constantly. One of the gold standards for PC game optimization IMO

Lmao, I'm considering getting a 3060 to upgrade from my 1660 super and fit my new QHD monitor, but I keep holding off because I still find the price too high.

I used to believe forums were full of people that were informed consumers, pondering every purchase decision. I now see it's full of stupid "enthusiasts" that buy before reading and are eager to them complain about theirs dumb purchases on the internet.

I believe that's basically correct. They've commented on their odd technical setup before, but due to the nature of basing the entire game around animation, they need to put the visuals on the screen as fast as possible, pacing and tearing be damned.

I guarantee you, it probably was not that much better circa 2008. Theres always been a toxicity to gaming forums like this
