I didn't jump into the conversation to explain H007's point of view, you guys have been going back and forth with him on it. My point was that it is pointless to focus all your energy on that point when the majority of people that are accusing him of that, do the very same thing but in reverse. They're all hypocrites (they know who they are, one of them has pretty much admitted to being a hypocrite) and I am willing to bet that most of those people are agreeing with you in this thread. They will sing a completely different tune if this game was a Sony published one, also why #SonyToo keeps being brought up in this thread, to redirect criticism, which is unnecessary, since given how things are right now, the political climate, everyone being on edge it seems, Avowed could have been a Sony game and people would be doing the same thing they are right now; Concord is the most extreme example of that, and some of that game's developers were also being included in conversations around the game.I don't know how you can look at these two quotes byHeisenberg007 and not find his stance on The Outer Worlds 'wokeness' not hypocritical. No body is allying themselves with anybody, but i would assume if you have a problem with 'woke' video games that would extend to all video games, not just video games published by MS, because clearly he doesn't mind, when a Sony game is 'woke'.
This thread is about Avowed. A game that **might** end up suffering from the same thing [woke politics to be clear, not the fact someone is gay in it, since there are games with gay people that have done well]. A similar crime in the past does not excuse future ones so harping on that to redirect criticism for this game seems pointless to me.
What is made worse, in the case of Avowed, is that the director has a bone to pick with those who might feel differently than he does. The reason this topic exists. He deserves any criticism he is getting. He brought it upon himself and his game.

If the game is ruined, why should those YouTubers be blamed? The entire onus of that burden is on Obsidian, Xbox executives, and, especially Avowed's Art Director.
If your primary goal, as he said, is to piss off your customers and "so badly make them mad with their game," it shouldn't come as a surprise when the potential customers actually do get mad and end up boycotting your product.

If the game comes out and isn't riddled with woke politics, then all this noise prior to release will dissipate. It won't matter. How much noise being made online does not always translate to reality. We will just have to wait and see. If it ends up being just the character selection screen, I think this will die down pretty quickly, and no one will care after that, and the game won't suffer because of it.

If the game is actually good and caters to the core customer base, it will still be a huge success.
Hogwart's Legacy is a great example. RE boycotted it so much that they never even mentioned its name, even when it appeared on sales charts. Yet the game was a huge success. Because Hogwart's Legacy, other than a small group of nutjobs, was made for its fanbase and the core gamers.
Avowed is being the opposite. They are catering to that small group of nutjobs, which is so small that they can't make a game successful or a failure. They couldn't make Hogwart's Legacy a failure. They couldn't make Concord a success.
It's Obsidian's fault that they are catering to the wrong group.

I don't know why anyone should be embarrassed over this. As we all know, stuff like this generates conversations around a game, and we can argue whether that is good or bad all day long. It does bring attention to the game. Anyhow, this issue only got magnified because of statements made by the director in addition to the character selection screen. So, if anyone should be embarrassed, it should be the director because he brought negative attention to something he and his team worked on for years.
If it ends up being nothing, then most people will just move on to the next hot topic. Just how it goes.

Why should it be embarrassing for everyone?
This thread is about the Art Director's meltdown on the Internet (which did happen) and his implication that there is more to come in the game.
If there is nothing else in the game (good news for gamers!), it should only be embarrassing for Avowed's Art Director and Obsidian that they created the wrong impression of their game.

Politically driven people are typically not very good looking and have off putting social skills. And they project themselves into games hoping gamers like seeing and playing those characters for personal validation and ego boosting.
It’s not too often you see hot women who are personable and likeable people being weird political types.
And they definitely don’t seem like people who like the good looking women who get the attention. But funny how the male characters are still good looking hunks like nothing has changed since the first DND ripped warrior dude from 40 years ago.

It isn't just pronouns. We've seen weird character designs of the female already present in the game. Then there's the meltdown of the Art Director.
And people are specially sensitive to these things after Dragon Age Veilguard.
It got big because the Art Director targeted the owner of Twitter. The guy has 206 million followers. Of course, there was gonna be more than usual traction.

Not true, even based on your own examples. There was a concerted effort, including from high-profile media outlets and website owners, to boycott Hogwarts Legacy. It was so overwhelmingly meaningless that 'the unnamed wizard game' went on to become the year's best seller. Meanwhile, no-one on this side of the argument is stirring up a moral panic to drive any game toward failure, they're merely calling out what they see as poor writing and design and heavy-handed didacticism, this, we as a community have done since forever.
Games aren't being killed by tidal waves of hate online, they're flying a concrete wall of indifference offline. Concord, Suicide Squad, Star Wars Outlaws - we can all sit here and stew over the 'woke takeover' or whatever, but nobody actually cares. What matters is that most normal people (those who are pro-woke and those who don't mind either way) look at these games and think 'meh, I'm good'.
When angry pundits shout back 'this game isn't for you' it's with the express implication that it is for somebody else. That audience though - the legendary 'modern audience' - is vanishingly small and more often than not, just as hypocritical as the rest of us. They say they want this stuff on social media, and I'm sure they do on some level, but when it comes to spending hard-earned money on a day-one purchase, they want the same thing everyone else does: a really good fucking game.

Let's not put everyone in the same basket, please. Not everyone is jumping to the conclusion that "pronouns = game is woke and sucks." Many of us, me included, have been saying repeatedly that if that's all it is - a pronoun selector in a character menu - and the rest of the game is solid, then cool, that's great. I'm hoping that's how it turns out.
